Springtime Surprise Weekend 2025 (April 3-6)

The “feels like” showing for the 10k day… yikes. Maybe I will be brining my extra hydration bottle for the 10k instead of just the ten miler. Even with the races being in the morning, I know the heat will catch up to me. Maybe I’ll start hydrating now…
That's for Friday, which is 5K day, and I don't really care if it's hot in the evening, as I'll already be back in my room.

I wonder if the runDisney Brooks shoes will end up available on the Brooks website at some point. I think (?) in the past Brooks has sold limited edition race-branded shoes online post-race.

For example, Brooks made unique New York-themed shoes to launch with the New York Marathon in the past, and I'm almost certain some of those shoes ended up for sale on the Brooks website. Maybe it was just leftovers produced for race weekend, or maybe they had stock reserved for online sales also. And maybe I'm remembering this all wrong!

I actually find that it is MORE important for me to carry my own hydration for the 10K than the longer races for two reasons.

1. There usually aren't nearly as many water stops during the 10K as there are for the longer races. It feels like runDisney has really increased the frequency of the water stops for the longer races, but not so much for the 10Ks.

2. There are no electrolytes available during the 10Ks, just water.

My first couple of Disney 10Ks, I kept thinking "it's only a 10K, I'll be okay," but boy, was I regretting it during the races themselves! Now I just suck it up and carry almost the same as what I do for the long race.

When do the check-in passes go out?

And to go along with that question: when I did my first rD event in 2009, I was a bundle of nerves due to the unknown and may have gotten a few hours of sleep before getting up for the Half. For every race since then, I've been rather chill (as my kids would say) leading up to the races due to knowing what to expect. (Ignoring the driving like a bat out of hades due to car trouble in Jan 2022 and getting to the Expo with 15 minute to spare. Whew, never want to do that again). Excited for every race since the first one, but fairly laid back due to knowing how it all goes down.

And now, I find myself back to being all amped up with excitement for a rD event, plus my head spinning with "have I planned for everything?" FWIW, I packed a few days ago, just to make sure I didn't overlook anything and so that I didn't wear any trip attire that would then need laundering again (and thus possibly getting left behind) before we hit the road next week.

Probably a bit of over-sharing, but hopefully I'm not the only one similarly pumped up with anticipation.
Thanks for reading.

Look in your RunDisney account Monday.

I think I saw Monday March 31 the check in pass would be ready in our runDisney account.

I have not begun thinking about planning on packing yet. We will probably do laundry on Tuesday, then pack for early Wednesday flight. I think we have enough things like gels leftover from the Princess Weekend, and based on latest forecast we won't need any additional layers to use pre-race, so luggage won't be too stuffed.

But, yes, I am excited about the races - trying to strategize my approach. I plan to target the 10 mile for a decent time, weather permitting. I would like to get a POT and I have 4 times/paces as targets that correspond to what I believe are the POT cut-offs for HM and Dopey. They range from 'achievable', 'would be nice', 'would be amazing', a 'stretch goal', and then there is a 'no way I can do that'. I will just cruise through and enjoy the scenery for the 5k and 10k. I believe my wife may have the 10k as her target race.

Monday. Somehow I missed seeing that info. Thank you.

Due to buying and experimenting with different gels and fuels over the last couple of years, combined with not running enough races, I now have a plastic gear-check bag that has been repurposed to hold all my fuels. Looks like I'm set for a few years, or to the expiration dates, whichever comes first. Overall takeaway: I need to run some more races so I can use up these fuels...
Yeah, that's the ticket....

Since the vendor map came out today, I took another look at the Advent Arena page. Brooks is on there now! And as I suspected, they are inside the main big room and off to one side -- kind of opposite the pre-purchased merch pickup -- not in one of the side rooms.

Makes sense since the Brooks VQ is part of the merch VQ. It would be weird to have them in separate area. Though it’s going to make for a chaotic drawn out first day of expo that’s for sure

Thanks for this! I did a 6.5 run today at our gym on the treadmill and My 24 oz hydro flask was empty before I finished. We’re flying out Friday morning so I’ve got time to pack. I am bringing my Theragun though since there’s room in my carryon. I’ve never run more than a neighborhood 5k so this all new to me.

It's easy to underestimate what you need to hydrate. I've had races where I drank an entire water bottle after finishing. Not intentionally, but just because that's what my body told me that I needed.

Over time, I've gotten significantly better at recognizing my body's signals regarding fuel and hydration.

I’ve never run more than a neighborhood 5k so this all new to me.

Have a great time! You only get to do your first runDisney experience once so make sure to take it all in.

I am definitely NOT discouraging carrying your own water, just adding a data point.

I'm a pretty profuse sweater, and carry plenty of Powerade on all of my training runs, but I've never carried my own hydration in any runDisney race (which has included five 10Ks so far, among other distances). I do make it a point to fully partake at each hydration stop, sometimes grabbing two cups if they're not as full. So far that has worked well for me.

For this 10K, there's approximately one water stop every 1 1/2 miles. I do agree I'd prefer that they provide something with electrolytes besides at the finish line though.

Hi! My sister and I are doing our first ever rD event with the 10k this coming weekend! We are super excited, but also starting to get a little anxious with how everything will run. Any advice for these newbies?!

We are also starting to get a little nervous that we might not be able to stay completely with our registration pace (especially being from NY)--based on what we are seeing, we think we should be okay if we don't run exactly the pace we thought we could (as long as the balloons don't get us!) anyone have any experience with this?
