Have you ever colored your hair an unnatural hair color?
If so, what color(s) did you do?
(multiple choice)

*Personally, I have never done this.
My 11yr old wants to have her hair ends (approx 3") pink.
She has dishwater blonde hair, and I know it will be super cute, but I don't know if I'm ready for the heavy criticism I'm going to get from my mom and in-laws:rolleyes:.

Yep. I've done a pretty teal color recently, and a few years ago I did streaks of pink. It's fun dying your hair different colors, but I try not to do it too much.

ETA: I think it would be a fun idea for your 11 YO. Why not have fun with it while you can? You can always do a trial run with hair chalk and things like that. The teal color a did was a wash out hair color that came in a can (Halloween rocks) and it came right out in the shower.

It will also give your DD the opportunity to switch colors up if she gets bored with it, and the family can't say too much when it washes right out. ;)

I've never dyed my hair. I had it "frosted" once about 35 years ago and it was too heavily "frosted."

I've had purple streaks in my hair, I should do it more often. My daughter's signature hair is black with red and I love it. She's worn it that way for years. If a job required her to change it, she would, but her career is full of quirky people; plus it's up under a scarf and hard hat all day while she plays in the dirt, lol.

I didn't have my whole head, but I had a big purple chunk in highschool. I loved it. My dd has had some chunks of various colors at various times.

ETA I think you should let your dd do it!

Whole head from being about 12 up to 46 has been dyed weird couleurs. Have had a few disasters but it can be redyed, it's only hair after all ;)

I'd say go for it :thumbsup2

DD has had every color except orange and yellow, plus a few ombre looks. She had to bleach her hair to do this, and changed it up about once a month. Then she cut it short and dyed it dark. It's shoulder length now, and mostly her natural golden brown. She said something about green tips the other day. :o

The only one I really liked was a magenta hue. It looked gorgeous with her coloring. Light blonde with pink tips was also very cute, I'd say go for it! It lightens very quickly and you can always trim the ends.

The wildest I've ever done is regular red (not primary red, but something that looked natural) with black highlights. I've never been able to be bolder because of work.

I remember back in grade 8 one of the boys in my class wanted to dye their hair bright blue just for picture day, so he tried dyeing his hair with blue Kool-Aid. It turned out grey!! And it wouldn't wash out, either!

My hair has been every shade of red there is...fire engine red, orange, pink, purple, maroon, etc. Currently my daughter's hair is half blue half pink. It started out dark blue and hot pink but since it is a wash out it has faded to an aqua blue and pale pink. Both look cute on her.

In regards to the OP....The only thing I would be worried about with unnatural colors is what her school's policy is. A lot of schools in our area do not allow unnatural colors so I had to check out my daughter's rule book before letting her do it. Fortunately for her, her school doesn't really care.

I chose "other" because my color is sort of a mix of burgundy and eggplant purple - we call it "black cherry." Unfortunately, I've been restricted from coloring my hair for the past 6 months, so now it's back to my natural mousy-ashy "dirty dishwater" light brown with silver/white roots! :(

I'm a male and that just wasn't something men did when I was growing up. So, I've never done any coloring, but I guarantee that if I still had all of my hair, I'd be experimenting. Maybe with a deep red or a dark green. I love the brightly colored hair I see, and even with my depleted stock I may still streaking something into the ponytail. I'm old, not buried.

The first time I colored my hair after a long rest the red dye turned the gray streaks orange, but I'm not sure that counts. LOL! I will never cheat on Nice & Easy again.

I am coloring my daughter's hair for prom with chalk and might go ahead and test it on my own hair, just for fun. Her school is one of the ones that only allows for "natural" colors, but I promised her if she wants she can do something crazy over the summer; she has a pixie cut and her hair grows fast, so by the time she starts up again it should be back to normal.

When I was middle school, I dyed a few chunks pink... my friends thought I was super cool.

I teach high school and am secretly jealous of the cool hair colors I see my students experimenting with.

I've gone red, green and purple (voted). Green was in high school, purple for summer camp (just a few years ago) and red was once for Halloween---but it took forever to go away.

With that being said *ahem* I used to dye my hair auburn or light red (depending on what was available). When I stopped because the gray that appeared overnight about a year ago refused to take the color, DH didn't realize I had stopped. He couldn't remember what my natural color was! (light brown with red highlights)
