A good Podiatrist is a great doctor to have in your Rolodex (who says Rolodex today? I guess I do - LOL!). They can help people in so many ways. I just saw mine yesterday, which is what inspired this poll. For those that don’t know what a podiatrist is, here ya go…..

Sometimes it’s hard to find good podiatrist, because so many people don’t want to talk about foot issues - it embarrasses them. I don’t understand this - I never have. If you have a foot issue, it’s ok, no one is going to think less of you because you have toe fungus, planters warts, ingrown toenails and etc. Ask others if they have a good podiatrist and go see them. Referrals are the best way to find a good doctor. So let’s talk about going to the Podiatrist today…….

Have you ever seen a Podiatrist?
If yes…..for what reason?
(multiple choice)

*There’s no way I can list every reason, so please use the OTHER option when needed.

*Please post why because it could really help someone else that has the same or similiar problem - they may not know they should see a podiatrist.

For Me…….I’ve been seeing a podiatrist for about 30 years for fractures, plantar fasciitis (this required surgery), Achilles tendinitis, ingrown toenails and ankle pain. My feet have been a disaster for a long time now. I’m currently suffering from Achilles tendinitis and it’s been brutal. After walking 55 miles, in 5 1/2 days, at WDW a few weeks ago, my tendinitis is very painful, which is why I was at the podiatrist yesterday. My last podiatrist retired a few years ago and I was concerned who I was going to see and from referrals from others I found my current podiatrist and he’s great! He’s been helping me a lot.

I seen one several years ago when I suspect that I broke my foot my general practitioner said your foot‘s not broke I kind of thought it was so I found one and went hey guess what my foot was broke I seen him two more times when I subsequently broke my other foot and then the same foot again I think all in all I have broken my feet four times - I have broken several toes but I didn’t go to the doctor for those what are they gonna do for those nothing
I have a few issues going on now with the nails I probably should go see the doctor about My feet are hot mess If your feet aren’t happy neither is the rest of you

I have not needed to see a podiatrist professionally, but I do know one! - My college roommate went on to that career. (Sadly, she lives far away.)

My MIL confused the devil out of me. She’s in Scotland and calls it the Chiropodist. I thought it must be like a chiropractor.
I need a new podiatrist. Mine died.
Also, yesterday I asked a co worker who called several times if he had me on “speed dial” which flew over his head. My husband who was eavesdropping asked me why I didn’t just ask if I was in his Roladex and really show my age! Lol

I have never been to one. I think I had something like plantar fasciitis (obviously not an official diagnosis but the symptoms were what Dr. Google concluded). Whatever it was, it went away after about a year. I probably should have gone to the doctor about that, but I was stubborn and didn't want to.

I have only been to one once with heel pain. It was plantar fasciitis.
He gave me some exercises and said to come back if it kept bothering me.
It was very painful for about a month and hasn't acted up since them (knock on wood)

I had started to run 5k races. I have feet that have high arches and needed additional support. I went to a podiatrist and received orthotics (prescription arch supports). I wore them for years. I also developed plantar fasciitis, which took about 8 months to cure.

I also have bunions, which are hereditary. So someday I might be going back to the podiatrist.

I have been seeing one off and on for quite a few years. I love him. He started out as my husband's doctor because of an ulcer on his toe that took years to heal. My husband is a very stubborn man. We see him every two weeks for my husband is dealing with another ulcer.

I have seen him for athlete's foot, a weird blister that I kept rubbing open (turned out to be the shoes I was wearing), a couple of broken ankles due to a weak ankle that he saw me for after a fall and plantar's fascitis. He recommended a specific brand of sneakers and I haven't had an issue since wearing them exclusively.

I even have my grandkids seeing him and he diagnosed the issue with my granddaughter that her pediatrician said was nothing. It isn't, she has small feet and extremely high arches with tight tendons that cause her feet a great deal of pain after standing too long or walking long distances, she gets a scooter at some point during trips to Disney now. My grandson had a toe fungus and ingrown toenail. The other granddaughter some kind of wart issue. They all love him too, especially my grandson because the treatment for his ingrown toenail was quite painful and the dr. took his mind off of the pain by talking about video games with him.

He is the only doctor that has finally gotten my husband to comply with him. The threat of amputation is good for that. LOL

We can’t access specialists directly in our system; it takes a referral from a GP. I’ve seen a podiatrist once, years ago, about my toenails as the GP suspected a fungal infection. The podiatrist ruled it out and diagnosed the condition as pincer nails. There is no effective cure or even treatment for it, so that was that between me and the podiatrist.

I saw one a couple times as a child for ingrown toenails, a bone spur on one of my toes, and a corn that was between 2 toes (most painful of them all). I have not needed to see one for many years though.

I've dealt with plantar faciitis on and off for about 30 years. When it flared up i would see the podiatrist and then start my morning stretching routine when I got out of bed and putting Superfeet inserts in my shoes. It would clear up in a couple weeks and life would go on. In 2022, before our family trip to WDW, it flared up and it would not go away. I ended up getting a cortisone shot in my heel (painful!) and that cleared it up. Since that time I have switched to Hoka sneakers (no inserts) and have not had any more issues.

Never thought about going to a Podiatrist even though I am T2 diabetic. My primary care Doctor does my foot exams and deals with any toenail issues. My Dermatologist also monitors my toenails as I have had issues. I have heard some people say they don't trim their own toenails, they go to the Podiatrist every 2 or 3 months to have them trimmed.

Never been to one and unless my foot is falling off and my GP can't help probably won't. I don't like people touching my feet, not even hubby.

I've had a few foot issues over the years, but nothing serious and my family doc took care of it.

I see one a lot. I have been having a lot of issues with my feet. Started a few years ago, end of covid times, when I was running to get back in shape. Had a heel spur in right foot and got shots in heel twice. First shot worked for like 8 months or so. Second shot is still working and it was 2.5 years ago ish.

But then last Sept I was away for a weekend and wore my Berks all weekend and did a lot of walking. Both feet started killing me like they had broken bones, more so the left foot. Took a while for my foot Dr to figure out, via a MRI, that I had some stress fractures in the metatarsals with one head being crushed. Had to wear a boot for 6 weeks and did 2 rounds of steroid packs and did hot salt baths/ ice water baths and PT. Dr would have me take Ibuprofin but am on BP meds so I am leery about taking too much.

Now I am taking the arthritis Tylenol and I still wear an ace wrap and I just bought a red light therapy belt thing to put on. Still hurts when I am on my feet too long. I had stopped running with the heel spur but was walking 40 mins a day. Since Sept, I havent been able to and I've put on over 10 pounds (and climbing). I think I need to get 15 pounds off and that might help yet I have trouble doing anything on my feet to lose the weight. Argh!

ANyway, not a fan of my foot DR as he seemed to just shrug me off and still is. He did just send me to a rheumatologist but he also shrugged me off.
