It’s sad but not surprising…the profit margin on alcohol is huge…just another great revenue stream for the bean counters, Walt’s desires be damned. This has been the modus operandi for the past two decades. It used to be so wonderful that there was one place you knew you could go without encountering some inebriated fool.
Yep, you guessed it…I’m old. And no, CM’s are not going to be policing/encountering the drunks. And while I’m sure they are around, I think I only saw one ACTUAL security person in the parks (besides the check points of course). I’m sure they are watching somewhere though…at least I hope so.
I mean, I love Walt but the man was fine with Club 33 and even had drinks with people in private (Walt daughter drove Walt home after a preview night celebration at the park)It’s kind of sad given Walt’s feelings about alcohol in the park. For a while it was contained at Olga’s, but I guess we have to prepare for it to be sold throughout the park.
I don’t think you need to worry. MK in WDW has been serving alcohol for years, but only with meals (no Epcot-style stand-alone drinks stands) and I have never once seen anyone there the worse for drink.I don't necessarily care about them selling alcohol, but I hope that they keep a tighter reign on serving people then EPCOT seems to do. EPCOT at night can get so rowdy and obnoxious with people who've obviously drank to excess. Being stuck in lines with drunken obnoxious people is pretty damned annoying.
Yes, my friend and I call them Disney Secret Service. They are there, but pretty incognito. The point of security within the Parks is that you don't see them. In park security is plain clothes.
I am unsure about this change. But Magic Kingdom has already gone this way and hopefully no further.

You absolutely nailed it Tinkaboo. Its all about the Benjamin's now and Walt's vision is an afterthought. We do have the power is in our hands not to purchase the adult beverages while in the parks. Unfortunately this does happen at EPCOT (and it's not great when your kids are around to hear the language and antics that is not G-rated on several occasions we've experienced). So yes, better server responsibility of drawing the line would be great (as is the law in our local licensed establishments where servers can be held liable for over serving, not sure if it's the same in Florida).I'm suprised, but I don't expect any nonsense. It's not like alcohol isn't readily availability just steps from the park, not to mention DCA. I've never seen an obviously inebriated person making an *** of themselves.
Difference between this and Epcot is that, at least for now, the drinks at DL outside of Ogas are all parts of a meal service.Unfortunately this does happen at EPCOT (and it's not great when your kids are around to hear the language and antics that is not G-rated on several occasions we've experienced). Never been to epcot, so I can't speak to that. I have been to DL/DCA/DTD several times over and I've simply never seen it. Alcohol has been readily available at DCA & DTD, and it would be incorrect to assert that it ruins the family friendly experience. So, I have no concerns about the change, and no, I don't drink alcohol. While I find the change surprising, it's no reason to think the park is going the way of some nightclub as the new offerings are at sit down restaurants.Unfortunately this does happen at EPCOT (and it's not great when your kids are around to hear the language and antics that is not G-rated on several occasions we've experienced). Epcot can be a disaster during weekends or certain times of year, especially World Showcase. And disaster can be putting it kindly on the nights it’s open to 11. People try to have an entire alcoholic beverage at each country and get WASTED. I have personally witnessed that basically every time I’ve been to Epcot in the last 5 years.Never been to epcot, so I can't speak to that. Ok, but that is epcot. I don't hear anyone griping about the magic kingdom, the animal kingdom, Hollywood studios, or whatever else is at wdw. Brazen drunkenness doesn't happen here, it isn't the west coast reputation for that very reason, and it's not going to devolve just because 3 restaurants are serving drinks. It would have happened already as anyone could have what I imagine are much stronger drinks just steps away from DL's gate.Epcot can be a disaster during weekends or certain times of year, especially World Showcase. I have also never seen unruliness at Disneyland anything like what I have seen at Epcot. I’ve definitely seen a drunk person or two at DLR, but not the rowdy hoards like Epcot.
