Magical sewage back up!

I just looked a video posted by Don's Family Vacation, and the photos of the bathroom that Don claims is on the Disney Magic. This is not on the Disney Magic. I have sailed on this ship over 30 times. The bathroom in the video shows a tank over the toilet bowl and next to it a shower stall. Disney Cruise Line does have a tank over the toilet bowl, nor does it have a shower stall. I don't where he got this video from, but it is completely untrue.

I understand that there is a leak in ther atrium, and hopefully it has been repaired, but the leak is definitely not due to sewage.
Yeah, unless I am mistaken, he has never been on a Disney cruise. He goes to WDW a lot, and has been on nearly 200 cruises, but none of them on Disney, which is odd to me. His buddy and fellow vlogger Tony has been on one Disney cruise and did not like it. I gather he cruises to gamble, and the lack of a casino was a big issue for him.
Both of them, as I think I said upthread, are not typical cruisers. But my hat is off to them because they have found a way to make a living cruising. Unlike most of us, their fare, specialty dining and excursions are all tax deductible business expenses.
Not sure cruising would be so special for me if I cruised as often as they do.
My mom was an RN and when she retired she considered working on cruise ships as a nurse. She decided she would rather just pay to be on the ship, because making it her job would ruin the cruise experience.

The first video used click bait (we discuss it in this thread) but yes there was a sewage back up on the Magic and then the next sailing had the atrium leak- different events but the Magic's plumbing is in need of some love for sure.

The back-up and the atrium leak were on the same cruise. Several cabins on deck 6 experienced a back-up in their showers and were unable to use them, and water begin leaking into the atrium. The water raining down in the atrium was not sewage- it appeared to be clean water. But both issues were one in the same given timing and location.

Unfortunately, that means there were actually two different sewer backups because the other one that from before when it was shared here on March 22nd and that means the ship is in real need of some serious love and care by DCL

I wasn't aware of that.

It is also very likely that these plumbing culprits are more often than not due to the fact that people are flushing things down their toilet that do not need to be flushed. There are numerous accounts of this across all cruise lines (and it can create a big issue)...

I understand that but the Magic out of all the DCL ships is the only one where I keep hearing about these issues over and over and over again (normally on Deck 6)... DCL Guest behavior is not that different from ship to ship in general so why is it that the Magic Deck 6 staterooms are the ones where guests are flushing things they shouldn't and not the others? I know issues do arise from time to time on all DCL ships but the same location over and over again is something more than flushing things they shouldn't.

Magic has been having plumbing issues since her last drydock. Has everyone forgotten about the water leaking in the aft elevators? This is not just due to guest behavior.

Since there is only a year between the Magic and Wonder I doubt it's age.

I think you are right that it is not age. I wonder if its something with the construction especially since she was built in two parts unlike the wonder (I know it has a seam but its fake)...

I think of it like the Dream and the Fantasy. The Fantasy was built 2nd but it has terrible aft vibration issues that the Dream doesn't. I do not know why (maybe someone else does) but it is really noticeable between the two ships.

Not sure about everyone else, but seems there is a plumbers truck on my street every month. I am surprised their aren't more plumbing problems on cruise ships given they are rocking and rolling with the ocean, and not everyone on board is following good plumbing protocols.

Most plumbing back ups on marine toilets come from someone placing items in the toilet that should not be flushed. Room steward told us about the time some moron flushed a diaper....results were not good.

It doesn't even have to be a diaper.

Some people feel their derrieres are far too delicate for marine-toilet-safe toilet paper and bring their own. Because the system is not designed for the cushier TP most of us are accustomed to at home, that can quickly cause back-ups. And not necessarily for your direct toilet - the clog can happen anywhere in the system.

We disembarked this morning and other than that small hiccup with embarkation, the cruise was actually wonderful and the leak didn’t really impact anything other than the first day. They did keep that area closed off on Monday but they got everything cleaned up and repainted pretty quickly. It’s back to normal now and the princesses were there meeting with guests as normal throughout the week. Last night they did the farewell gathering there as well which I was told is standard. So all we really missed was the grand entrance.IMG_3309.jpeg

So glad to hear you had a great cruise and they were able to get it fixed so quickly once they made it back to port.

That's great to hear, thanks for coming back and updating us!

The plumbing problems on the Magic and Wonder are not new and have been going on for well over a decade. Most of the times it has been on deck 2. My plumbing at home backs up, especially when my kids were living at home. It happens more often on a ship with the delicate plumbing system. If every ship that had a plumbing problem was taken out of service there would be no cruise ships.
