Island Tower at Polynesian Villas & Bungalows

DVC since 1996. We have been hoping for a monorail resort that we actually like for more than two decades. I am trying not to get my hopes up too high. Points will be high as well as prices though MF's will be lower than OKW.

I have lots of questions for our guide next month (or sooner!) regarding priority if we buy direct into new Poly Tower. If at 11 months, we are competing with original Poly owners (since it is the same association) what 11 month advantage would we have for a studio at the Tower? We are 1 BR people for the most part and the only way to guarantee we'd get a popular week would be a fixed week. My guess for the number of points for Halloween week is north of 300 points. It could be a mind numbing amount of cash. DH is really into this and we have watched other deals come and go. First deal out of the gate may be the best for this unique resort...we shall see.

I think I’m buying… so I do have a horse in the race, but I’m also confident that these points, although there will be a mad rush for them to begin, will hang around for a few years. On that basis I am going to put my patient pants on and wait for a while after sales start. My main reason is that I want some direct points but RIV, AUL, VDH and CFW have been ruled out for me. I was too new to DVC to take the plunge last year during the VGF sale (regret that now).

Shall we start a therapy group?? :fish:

I wonder if others, like myself, are just watching the Poly thread now for the excitement others have - we would probably not add Poly points regardless of the price (not anti-Poly, but have other resort favorites).

It's like waiting for a horse race to start when you don't care who wins. And for once, I'm not concerned we'll get caught up in the FOMO. I swear Disney used that "one time too many" with us and now when we get too pumped it's like a red flag NOT to buy anything ;)

Same here. We already own at VGF & BLT, so not interested in buying another monorail contract. Would love to stay at Poly someday, since it's the only WDW DVC resort that we haven't stayed at yet but not to own here.

I’m confused by the comments on buying tower points - what does that actually mean when the tower is part of the existing association - not a new one? It seems to me that unless you’re buying a favorite week contract for a specific tower room type, the general points purchase is for PVB and can be used anywhere at PVB (including the tower) because there is no such thing as Tower points. Isn’t that how it works?

If that’s right, why there would be any incentives offered on direct PVB points when there are none now?

With all the excitement around the tower, it looks like the time to sell at full price, not a discount?

When VGF opened the resort studios expansion, they dropped the price down from the prior "sold out" price of $255 to a new lower base price of $207, and added incentives, since they suddenly had an influx of millions of new points to sell. This is why people assume there will be a lower price and some mild incentives.

Note that $207 was also the base price for Riviera and Aulani at that time (March 2022).

To oversimplify, it's the forces of supply and demand. When a resort is "sold out", supply is exceptionally low which emboldens Disney to eliminate incentives and drive up the base price.

But when that resort reopens for new sales, there are suddenly millions of points available. That "sold out" rate is unlikely to move another 2-3 million points.

Disney will always try to push the envelope on pricing. Price it too high and people will turn to resale or take their chances at 7 months. DVC has to find that right level where they sell at a decent pace while maximizing profit. It's a sliding scale, which is why incentives are reevaluated every 3-4 months.

Whose side are you on?😳

I have 350 Poly points, but I expect 2BR to run about 450, and we'd like to have extra points to bring friends and family from time to time, so I'd really like to have 150-200 more.

My wife and I are really going back and forth about whether to add on at the Poly, or buy a larger/cheaper resale contract.

Depending on pricing, we could plausibly end up with 500@PVB or with 350@PVB + 300@SSR. The latter would be more dues, which we could leapfrog those contracts into 700@PVB on year, 600@SSR for SAP the next.

Either way, the thought of going north of 500 is scary. They should really make you sign a waiver when you first purchase DVC that it is dangerously addictive.

We own 200 points at poly currently and have a trip booked 18-26 DEC that I’m hoping to modify into an IT room so I’m patiently waiting for booking info.

We just bought 150 points at RIV over the summer with the last round of incentives so not currently planning to buy points.
