If money were no object - what city/state would you live in?

After spending the past few days with our friends here, we’d like to have a place in Old Town Alexandria, VA. This might become our winter area, while keeping our house on Lake Erie for the summer. We’ll see.
My neighbors townhouse just went on the market! Things around here still sell pretty quickly. Not too much snow, great walkability.

I am a definite northerner, will never live anywhere farther south than northern Virginia. Currently visiting family who winter in Venice, Florida. They pay like $8000 a year in homeowners insurance for a small house.

I really, really love where I live right now. But, in another life with a different job and difference circumstances - I would love to live in London. Studying abroad there was a dream come true and I would love to stay longer. It felt safe and was so well connected to many other places in Europe by a quick train ride.

Downtown San Diego. If Cali wasn't such a mess. Maybe oceanfront in Tampa.

Yeah, we’re just starting to look, but I get the feeling that properties move pretty quickly. Although we’re not sure how some of the changes in DC are going to affect inventory.

Honestly I'd probably move to Costa Rica, Belize, Thailand, or Anguilla and buy a house on the beach and then make that my jumping off point for traveling everywhere. If money was no object.

If I had to pick a US city I'd say somewhere in Colorado like Fort Collins and then buy a beach home elsewhere to visit whenever I want.

It is a mess, I got assaulted by a homeless person in downtown San diego
There are patches of California that are pretty good. Huntington Beach is probably my favorite. The changes are unfortunate. I grew up in California and it's such a beautiful state. You need lots of money to have a good life there.

Either in a house walking distance to Disneyland’s main gate (so I could go every day like the Clapping Man of Disneyland does) or I’d live in one of those adorable houses right next to downtown Georgetown, TX.

Same here i grew up going to San diego and la Jolla beach. La Jolla is still good but it's very very sad what has happened to downtown and mission beach. It is unsafe. The police do nothing. Unless someone is seriously injured already they will not come or do anything. Eating lunch in downtown and having homeless people on drugs walk up to your table with no one doing anything about it is crazy. I had a very drunk man look at me and scream at me and chase me with a golf club. Jug of alcohol open right next to him. Thank God three men watching the whole thing unfold ran and tackled him to the ground. Another friend was chased by a man with a knife while grocery shopping with her children.

Wow. We cruised out of San Diego a couple of times in the last two years and didn't see anything like that. We were at the embassy suites near the cruise port and didn't really venture out of that area. I know the Anaheim DL area is a mess. I've seen some crazy stuff around there. I'm surprised Disney puts up with it.

I'm sure Disney would love to buy that whole area surrounding them out 🤣🤣

I would live in a suite on the Las Vegas Strip. Pro sports, awesome entertainment, the best people watching anywhere, and easy access to a good airport that would let me travel anywhere.

If we go international, to me there is nowhere more beautiful than the south of France. Unfortunately, not being able to speak French, I probably wouldn't do too well on my own. I have been there, and it was amazing, however I was with people who could speak French. That makes a huge difference.

Money isn't the issue, it's where the kids/grandkids are. Right now, they have good jobs here in CA so here we will be. I'd rather move to Tennessee. My cousins are loving it there. I do have to say, where I do live in CA it's in an area that has good weather, the ocean 90 minutes one way, snow skiing 90 minutes the other way and great fresh fruits/vegetables.
I agree that family plays a big part in where we live. We have grown kids/grandkids, and great grandkids now:) There's no way we would move from them:) I just dream of Tennessee where we lived for several years. I loved it there and even learned to tolerate the extremely hot, humid summers.

r.e. bold -- Our family move in 1986 was from NJ to SW FL. with DD-11 and DS-9. THEY grew up and away while we grew OLDER staying put and put we will be till death do us part.

I live on the east coast now but have lived on the west coast, in the midwest, and in the south. There were wonderful things about each of these regions. I would prefer an area with a very mild climate. Certain political issues matter to me, but I have found kind and generous people wherever I have lived.

California if I just get one state. I'd probably want to be a bit north just for the day/weekend trips which are incredible. We lived there early in our engagement/marriage for a few years and we loved it. We'll get back there to spend some time...probably as AirBnBers/short term rentals early in retirement. But we'd also like to spend some time in Hawaii....lovely place to explore some more when we have more time.
