How early do I need to buy Magic Bands

I have a trip coming up in October with my daughter. I also have additional trips booked that include more family on DME. (3 additional trips through September 2025.) When I purchase my daughter's and mine, will our bands only pick up the trip with my daughter or will it also include all trips planned through September 2025 that include other family members, too? Thanks for the info!

The bands aren't actually attached to specific trips in any way other than your ability to order them ahead of time at a slight discount. The band doesn't "know" what trip it was purchased for. All the band does is tell read-points that "Willows909 is here" and then any entitlements (resort reservations, tickets, memberships) attached to your My Disney Experience profile are usable by any band attached to that same profile.

Any advantage to the band vs an Apple Watch?

MagicBand+ has lots of neat little special effects utilizing lights and vibration that you won't get on Apple Watch. Apple Watch won't let you do the statue scavenger hunt or play Batuu Bounty Hunters if you're interested in either of those.

In addition to what’s listed above, the Apple Watch won’t link ride photos (such as on Seven Dwarfs, where there’s no tap point) to your account. But if you let MDE use Bluetooth on your phone, those photos will link.
