I am traveling with my aunt and mom for a family trip and meeting up with some extended family, who is staying at the all star sports hotel.

I am a bit fussier about the room situation and haven't been on a vacation in several years.

My mom, aunt and I were considering the Swan, but then I found the DVC rentals-

Which DVC rental option do you think is best for three adults? Pros and cons would be helpful. I love the boardwalk area at nighttime, but open to other ideas too.

Well, will you, your aunt, and your mom want separate beds, or will two of you share? A regular hotel room will normally have two queen beds; some of the deluxe (maybe all of them, I don't know) will also have a smaller single bed, providing three sleeping surfaces.

DVC studios, which are most like a hotel room, have a queen bed and a queen Murphy bed that comes down over the couch OR a sofa that opens into a bed. Some of them, but not all, have a single Murphy bed as well, which may be twin size or may be smaller, like bunk size, and not comfortable for all adults.

DVC 1 bedroom villas will have a king bed in the bedroom and a queen Murphy or sofa bed in the living room. Some do have the single Murphy in the living room, but some (particularly Boardwalk Villas and Beach Club Villas, since you mentioned loving the BW area) do not have that single Murphy bed. (To make it more confusing, the studios at BWV and BCV do have the single Murphy!)

IOW, you need to look at actual floor plans for each DVC resort you're considering, to be sure the studio or 1BR will have the sleeping surfaces you want.

The other pros and cons come later!

Where will you be spending most of your time? If you'll be going to EPCOT and DHS, then yes the BWV and BCV area is great. If you'll be at MK maybe consider a monorail resort. PPs point about sleeping arrangements is also important to consider.

One of the biggest cons to renting DVC points is lack of flexibility and cancellation policy. Be sure to understand the limits and have a contract.

Also when is your trip? A year out? 6 months out? DVC availability can be slim in the fall months.

Have you considered a suite at All Star Music? Three queen size beds (one standard, two Murphy), two bathrooms (one with tub/shower and one shower only), kitchenette with full size fridge, with two beds in one sleeping space and the third in a separate room. We really like them after the renovations were done and they would be close to your extended family at Sports, especially if you don’t have a car.

Otherwise, you will need to look at each resort you are considering to see what the sleeping arrangements are for each room type. It will be easier if two of you are willing to share a bed than if you want totally separate sleeping surfaces. You may find that more standard hotel rooms in the deluxe category have three sleeping surfaces than DVC, especially if you have to rule out the studios with the smaller than twin third bed. I agree with the PP who cautioned you to read any rental agreement thoroughly. If you are the type that tends to change resorts or room categories, renting does not typically offer that type of flexibility. If you tend to book what you want and stick with it, renting is a better fit. Also, if you need to cancel, can you afford to absorb the cost of the rental if there is no refund?

There's also Art of Animation. There you can choose a Little Mermaid Standard room that has 2 queen beds (you'd have to specify you need this with 3 people if you and your mom didn't mind sharing a bed). Or there's the option of a family suite there which has 1 queen bed, 1 sleeper sofa and 1 table bed.

ETA: Be aware that depending on when you are travelling, if it's the last week of January in 2026 (26th-31st) the Skyliner will be out of service for refurb.
