Gambling

Every once in a while we'd take a trip to Philly and spend the morning and early afternoon at Sugarhouse (now called Rivers) Casino. I'd take money I'd been putting away for the occasion, usually $100. We only played penny slots, to make the money last longer. I like it a lot; it's a fun way to spend the day if you only lose what you can afford to lose. Haven't been since my uncle died and the pandemic.

Yes...I love the slots. When I go to Vegas, I have a set daily gambling budget....once thats gone, I'm done. I usually do 1c slots and of course bets are more than that. I start out at 50c and won't go higher than $1/bet if I'm winning. I really like the slots with bonus games. If I do win a good amount, I'll pull aside my daily budget and keep gambling with that and put the rest away. Sometimes I'll take a $20 bill and do $1 slots(usually $2-$3 bets)....usually if I win something, its almost always on those and not the penny slots. I'm not very lucky but my hubby can be and my two friends I usually gamble with are really lucky. They definitely win more than they put in. Haven't been to Vegas in over a year now and I kinda miss it. LOL

I haven't gambled in years, but I enjoy it for a little while. I know how to play blackjack quite well but it isn't my favorite. That's the game my parents play since it has the best payout. I personally prefer roulette just because I think it's more fun. If I'm gambling it's for entertainment not to make money, and I find roulette exciting and fun. You can easily play for a long time on a little bit of money. I've only gambled on cruises. Wouldn't mind doing it again if I go to Vegas or back on a cruise eventually.

We live in New Orleans and Harrah's spoils us with 24 hours of French Quarter parking for 30 minutes of play time. With free drinks and 30 minutes of nickel slots, we definitely come out on top; but, it's so much fun and a 10-minute walk to Bourbon Street. :)

I think it’s on a T-shirt- I went gambling with jerk face and all I got was this lousy $300. Haha. Why do people who like to gamble think an ideal date is to take their non-gambling significant other gambling? What a jerk face.
Jerk Face? I take mine to the buffet. What more could anyone want?

P.S. You know they're a keeper if they take the blue chicken.

I love to gamble. I used to go to a local casino on average twice a week.

I mostly played blackjack. I love the social aspect of it and got to know a few of the dealers there rather well. I mostly stuck to basic strategy. Tried to learn some counting strategies but found it took the fun out of it.

I played some slots as well. I prefer the bells and whistles of the video slots to the old school reel slots.

It‘s entertainment.

Not really my thing, but I have been to a few casinos. I never spent more than $10, if that much. We usually end up wandering into the French Lick casino when/if we go down there at Christmas time. The Christmas stuff is amazing, and usually end up wandering into the casino for a bit.

I have the worst luck and I’m a sore loser (in regards to gambling) so I don’t gamble much.
My DH though has the best luck and wins often so when we did go to the casino boat (which seems like forever ago) I would just watch him.

I put in $20-40 but after I lose that I'm done for the day.
So, you play for a full minute? :rotfl2:

On a work trip where the guy who drove would bet you if you said grass is green, I had no choice but to sit in a hotel room or go out to dinner, eat a good steak I normally wouldn't afford, enjoy a hockey game, and walk around a casino the rest of the night. I put $20 in, 30 seconds later I was out $20.

I did a lot of people watching. Very sad. Watched one lady sitting in the chair facing out away from the machines mindlessly smacking the buttons on 3 machines. I don't get it. In a matter of minutes she went through a couple $100 on each of the 3 machines.

I agree, it is something fun that many adults enjoy. Vegas is obviously not the only place to gamble as more casinos have opened all over the country. I mostly play slots but sometimes roulette. It is fun to watch people 'charting' the numbers like they are going to find some pattern in the wheel. There is no skill involved, but you simply bet on whatever your 'favorite' numbers are. As others have mentioned, 'penny' slots is misleading since the minimum bet is never $.01.......LOL. At some casinos, you can still find slots for $.25 where you can actually bet less per spin then the so-called penny slots, but depends on what each casino has.

I like going to my local casinos. Before Covid I would go 3-4 times a week and play mostly the $5 BJ tables. Wasn't much into slot playing unless it was a video poker machine.

Now I go once in awhile. $5 tables are long gone (the House needs to get their money somehow with limited capacity) If I play a table I usually play Mississippi Stud. It's a fun game. It was on that table I had my biggest win for $7,000 on a straight flush. :)

Not a gambler and have no interest. We have been a few times to AC. I can see where it can get addicting/become a hobby, it's enjoyable, etc. It was fun but I am not willing to deposit my money to a casino lol.

I would rather use the few $$ to go away for a weekend.

We were at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino this past week. Side note, such an awesome looking hotel!
We ate dinner, roamed the property, and then decided to play a few machines. DD put about $60 in and walked away with $90. I lost $20 and DH lost $10. Not a bad way to pass an hour.

Had no interest in the table games due to the plexiglas everywhere. That really took away from the feel/ambiance of a sit down game. (I get it, I know why they're doing it)

I gambled quite a bit in my life, but not in quantity of $. Many years ago, my wife and I would go to Vegas (4X) and walk up and down the strip to play at the small casinos. I'd play the $1 blackjack tables just to get over the anxiety of sitting at a table with others.

Then came the video combined with real versions of blackjack, roulette and even craps. My favorite common game to play is the video large-dice bubble-roll craps. From what I have read, there is only one bet in a casino that pays even odds and doesn't have a house edge and it is laying odds in craps.

But my all-time favorite gambling game is hard to find. It costs .25/bet and found it at Luxor and The D casinos. At Luxor they had a camel racing game and The D used horses in theirs. It was plastic animal figures that were on tracks and you placed your bet on the camel/horse number and then they would race around the track.

I like to gamble but I do not bet more than $20 a day. Not trying to win big just be entertained for a bit. I usually find a penny machine and that $20 usually lasts me at least an hour and I get 3 to 4 drinks during.

And it was their pleasure to do so

That looks fun! If we get downtown next trip I’ll have to check it out. I saw something similar at Linq, I think. It had the big horse track, but not sure how similar it was beyond that.

Depending on how you frame the story of our two trips to Vegas you can either get the impression DH and I are degenerate gamblers or decide our endeavors are so pathetic they don't count. Touring the strip on our first trip the sum total of our gambling consisted of stumbling across a wall slot machine between the Bally's and Paris casinos and each dropping the five or ten dollars to pull the giant lever and spin the wheels. We each lost our entire wager.

For our second trip as seasoned gamblers we set aside and meticulously planned one entire morning entirely around gambling. We researched the specific machines we wanted to play and made breakfast plans to accommodate so that we would have the maximum amount of time to gamble, as one does. By ten a.m. we had located our first target, a progressive slot dating back to the opening of the MGM that hadn't yet paid out. Couldn't have been more than five after ten at the latest that we saw the last of the pristine $20 bill we so carefully brought with us. So rude, not even time for the cocktail waitress to come by. Ruder still, a few months later someone else won "our" jackpot and the machine was finally retired. Oh well, we still had another mission. Within a few minutes we had located our next target and were lucky enough to have a wonderful cocktail waitress stop by who was able to supply us with several dollars worth of quarters. We then proceeded to have a wonderful couple hours laughing, high fiving, cheering, whistling -- and drinking mimosas while dropping quarters and getting handfuls of them back when we wagered successfully on the tiny mechanical horses running the Sigma Derby with a nice group of people doing the same. We were there long enough I had the waitress switch to bringing me mini bottles of water, because it was still long before five o'clock and two mimosas had made it a challenge for me to remember my wager so that I was still cheering for the correct horses in the races. Even with the free cocktails, in the end we spent more on tips than the gambling itself and walked away with several dollars in quarters and definitely more cheerful than I've ever been at one thirty in the afternoon. So sad to know that a year or two after our trip the Sigma finally brokedown and couldn't or wouldn't be repaired and the ponies don't run anymore.

During the course of those hours I also wound up texting with first one and then our other daughter and first one and then eventually a text chain of friends. They all still love to tease us about it -- and want to go with if we ever make another trip. Next time I'll have to remind them that it was really their texts that were distracting me from keeping up with my bets. I consider that a good end to my gambling career. I can't see how it would ever be possible to top such a stupidly fun morning and I'm not really interested in trying.
