I got this company for a rental car for the end of March for 1 week out of MCO thru Autoslash. I never heard of it but looks like they promise you the same things as thrifty/avis etc. We are paying $305, all in and the popular rental companies are over $200 more for the week. I know you need to take a shuttle from the airport. Anyone have any experience with this company? I will keep checking for a lower rate for the other more popular companies.

Fox is not one of the major companies – Enterprise, Hertz, etc – so I would not personally rent from them. But I’m sure people have had OK experiences with them, some people have probably had bad experiences.

I used them a few years ago at LAX, but at that airport, even the major companies are not directly in the airport; you have to take shuttle buses to all of them.
They were totally fine. Service was good and the car was fine.
Not sure how the MCO location is. Just know that it is a few miles outside the airport.

Fox is known for trying to up sell with high pressure tactics. Also, make sure you have proof of your auto insurance coverage to present, so they can’t pressure you to take out their optional insurance coverage. You may want to read reviews on sites such as Yelp. Their cars very often have high mileage and damage, so it’s recommended to inspect and document any damage, before you accept any vehicle.

Fox's ownership recently changed and they were sold to EuropCar and they are a mid tier rental company. Not the bottom of the barrel like NuCar or Easirent. Make sure to check the vehicle for damage both before and after the rental. Do not use a debit card, it will incur a $400 deposit that is up to your bank when you get back. And have patience since it will take a shuttle ride to get to the lot plus however long at the counter.

Yelp is nothing more than an advertising service at this point. Pay us enough money and we'll take down all of your low reviews, don't pay us and we'll take down your good reviews.

@Sweettears would you please expand on your experiences? Saying you've had nothing but bad experiences with Fox isn't as helpful as telling us what issues you experienced.

Extremely poor service with shuttle from airport. Bait and switch on car availability. (Supposedly car reserved wasn’t available so they were looking to charge me the difference). Two hour wait for check in while every other rental agency had no lines. Employee taking break with over 20 people in line. There were only 2 to begin with. Reason for checking delay seemed to be due to their attempts to upswell each customer with higher rental fees or insurance. I could go on. Basically nothing during the process met basic expectations.

Keep in mind that this was all precovid.

Thank you all for the feedback. The rental is $305 and thrifty the next cheapest is $600, so it's double! At this point if I can't get a lower price with a brand name rental company I will take advice and keep fox. Refuse to spend $600/wk for a car rental.

We recently rented from Fox at LAX (so no experience at MCO). We had to take a shuttle from the airport but like another poster pointed out, all car rentals have to take a shuttle at LAX. The shuttle did not show up for a long time but we could have just had bad timing. My husband ended up renting the car himself while the kids and I went to the hotel since it was late at night. In the morning when I got into the car for the first time, it smelled strongly like smoke. I also realized my husband had added insurance (even though we’re covered and don’t need it) because he was told that it was mandatory in california. He was exhausted and just wanted to go to bed so I’ll excuse him! 😉 So we went back to the office in the morning to exchange vehicles and discuss the rate. We got a new vehicle with no problems (which was actually bigger so I was happy) and they took off the insurance with no hassles. After that, everything went smoothly, the new car was clean and acceptable although did have some wear and tear on it (2 handles above the doors were completely broken off) and it drove fine. Our return was simple and efficient and we caught the shuttle back to LAX quickly. I wouldn’t say it’s the best rental car company out there but pricing is most important to us and they were several hundred dollars cheaper than the next company so I was perfectly fine with my experience considering what we paid!

A typical experience with Fox. Will you save money? Yes. Is it worth the hassle? Depends.

I'm seriously considering them for a December trip to SAN. They are less than a third of the cost of any of the others. For that price difference I'll deal with the hassles, I don't have anything planned the day I arrive. On one of my business trips to MCO, I'll pass.

I don’t think we would have had those issues if my husband hadn’t been so tired and eager to just get to bed. Normally he always turns down insurance and he said he did notice the smoke smell a bit but thought it was fine (our hotel was about 1 minutes drive from Fox so he was barely in it). Since we ended up getting a larger car anyways, I was happy with the hassle but like I said, saving money is the most important to us, it might not be to everyone else!

That would be worth it to us for sure!! I’m not crazy about taking a shuttle to the car rental and in Orlando I always pick one on-site after doing an off-site one a few times - it just adds so much extra time! But we’re also traveling with kids and luggage (and back then 2 car seats!). But if all car rentals are off-site I would definitely do it. If it was that much cheaper we would do it too no matter what because we’re cheapskates! 😆

I avoid Fox just like I avoid the quick change oil change places. Their business model is to cheat and lie to you in order extract more money from you. I bring my car to a local independent mechanic to get my oil changed even though they charge close to $100. I prefer to deal with honest people.

Is it really honest if they are using $10 in parts and ten minutes of time and charging you $100? I view Fox like I do the ULCC airlines, it has to be a large difference and I temper my expectations going in.

@StarSeven7 There is a quirk in CA rental car law that all driver's must have liability insurance that the rental car companies aren't required to provide. If your husband didn't have his insurance card with him they aren't supposed to let you take the vehicle without purchasing the insurance from them.

He probably did have it with him - not sure because again, it was the middle of the night!! But that’s probably what the messaging was and he just got befuddled!

we also fly with ULCC and know all the expenses going in and temper our expectations as well. Even after adding in baggage it’s still much cheaper for us, and you have to pay baggage with legacy carriers as well.

See, my husband changes our oil himself because like I said, we’re cheapskates!!

Absolutely. When their labor bills out at $150 a hour for wages, taxes, and benefits I think it is a good deal. They aren't staying in business making 50 cents a gallon on gas and selling 6 packs of beer for $14. Their service business is what keeps them operating. I'm just shocked they haven't sold their 1/2 acre of property to a developer for $15m.
