We have a trip upcoming in mid April and decided to splurge one night for a 1 bedroom before moving back to our typical studios. As of right now there are still 1 bedroom rooms available for the 2 following nights. If the 1 bedroom room is still available the day that we're supposed to move back into the studio, could I ask the hotel if staying in the 1 bedroom is an option, or is that a hard NO and don't even waste your time? Thanks

Are you using DVC points or cash?

If you've made a booking through Walt Disney World rather than DVC, you could certainly ask at check-in whether it's possible to upgrade your room for the last 2 nights and what the cost would be.

If you've booked through DVC and want to use points for the additional nights in a 1 bedroom, I think the front desk will tell you to call Member Services, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. If you want a 1-bedroom and see one available now, you should book it now because it may not still be available later. The cost in points will be the same whenever you upgrade.

If there isn't a one bedroom showing available on the website, there are simply no unbooked one bedroom units available. Inventory is tightly controlled down to the unit to avoid overbooking.

There is SOME very, very modest chance of a room popping available if there is a last-minute cancellation. Or if there's an unbooked room on opposite side of the aisle (cash/dvc). But even if something does open up, expect to pay the difference. Also this last-minute opening would have to be an exact match for whatever view / location you are currently staying in to avoid a move. The resort won't fiddle with other people's reservations to accommodate you.

If your trip is booked with points and the other nights are available now, why not book them now?

I get the impression that OP is asking if they’d be able to ask to stay in the 1 BR but still “pay” using the points they put out for the studio, and not pay extra. So, stay in the 1br for all 3 nights but only pay for 1 and pay for 2 nights in the studio. I don’t think they do this and if they would it would just be a pixie dust kind of thing. It doesn’t hurt to ask, but they’ll probably say no.

This is what I gathered from OP post too. Basically does DVC do complimentary upgrades if there is availability when you request it at front desk like many hotels do when staying on cash.

If you ask to remain in the 1 bedroom, be ready to have the points for the 1 bedroom deducted from your account. Very rarely do they upgrade, but normally that's because the room booked is unavailable. If the resort offers, then they might not get MS to take the extra points.

I wouldn’t count on it, the resort can be pretty inflexible when it comes to DVC point inventory.
For example we started one stay w/ a couple of nights in a 1 br. at Jambo followed by several nights in a 2 br. lock off - same view. I asked several times (at check in, night before move, & morning of move) if we were just adding the next door studio to our 1 br. & if so could we leave our stuff in the 1 br. & was told no - we were moving, so we dutifully packed up our stuff & left it w/ bell services. We got our room ready text - we were given the same 1 br. + the studio next door - so we hauled our luggage back up to the 1 br. we’d left that morning 😂.
OP I see in another thread that you had one night upgraded gratis from a studio to a 1 br. during your welcome home visit - maybe you’re very lucky & you’ll be upgraded again, but generally it doesn’t happen & asking the front desk to mess w/ your points to ‘pay’ for an upgrade can lead to miscommunication & your points being messed up. If you see 1 br.s open & you want to remain in one best to just upgrade now.

I can see not getting an upgrade, but Id still expect some level of customer service and this would have made me real mad.

We once were upgraded to a one-bedroom from the studio we had booked for two nights at SSR (this was not at our request). This was several years back (the resort only had a few buildings open at that point). We weren’t charged the extra points, but I unfortunately don’t remember why it happened (or even if we received an explanation …. or just said yes before they changed their minds! :goodvibes ). My realistic side thinks it unlikely to happen these days, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

I had the same thing once…got a 2 bedroom instead of a 1 bedroom.

They needed our 1 bedroom and we were only two nights.

So, it does happen occasionally but if you ask to have something else, it will get charged.

Last summer, my DH wasn’t feeling well when we moved resorts.

RIV let us have a late check out while my DS went VGF to see if we could get in early. They only had a 2 bedroom LV and we took it…we did indeed get charged the extra points over Resort View we had booked.
