What is the tax% that will be charged at Disney?

I've been trying to figure out why I am getting different numbers than the disney dining calculator from the dis trip planner site. https://www.distripplanner.com/

We are 2 adults, 1 child (age 3).

From the disney site the ROL package for 2018 is $52 each for 2 adults and $32 for children = $136. Even at a tax rate of 15%, the total would be $156.40.

The site gives me $169.32 for the total cost.

The same things happens for other packages.

Is the tax rate that high (~25%) at disney? Or am I missing something (this is definitely more likely lol!). I'm assuming this doesn't include tip, since OOP calculations based on numbers given wouldn't either (plus tip is arbitrary).

Can someone explain this to me?

TIA!

That's interesting. The $52 and $32 INCLUDE the tax already, so I'm not sure where the calculator is getting their number. My advice is to always do your own math. It takes longer, but at least you're more accurate.

FWIW, the tax rate for meals at Disney is 6.5%

Looks like 6.5% tax and an 18% tip were added to the prices

If you click on the $169.32 total at the bottom, it will give you the following breakout of that amount:

Quick Service Meals: $0.00
Table Service Meals: $136.00
Snacks: $0.00
Refillable Mugs: $0.00
Taxes: $8.84
Tips: $24.48

Thanks! I didn't realize these included tax. I'm assuming regular menu prices do not include tax. Is that correct?

Their assumptions:
  • Every person in the group will be eating at the same restaurant during each meal.
  • Every person in the group will be getting a drink for each meal.
  • Estimates are based on your entire group's eating habits, and not any one person in the group.
  • Meals that use 2 Table Service (TS) entitlements are broken down into a "cost per entitlement" value for the purpose of determining the best value against 1 TS entitlement meals.
  • A gratuity of 18% is added to the cost of all TS meals.
  • There is an average Quick Service (QS) restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to allow you to be more flexible in where you plan to eat a QS meal.
I think it is a little awkward to include tips in the per-meal cost too, but if you look at the detailed breakdown for each plan they're listed under OOP costs.

  • A gratuity of 18% is added to the cost of all TS meals.

So that accounts for the discrepancy for the Tusker House calculations above. I didn't realize they included the 18% tip in their calculations.

Sorry, I didn't see your question at the end there. You are correct. When you look at the menus anywhere online, the individual item prices do NOT include tax. The sticky on the restaurant page that has buffet pricing DOES include tax.

You still have to tip if you’re on the dining plan so you can’t compare the dining plan versus paying out of pocket if you don’t also include the tips.

Yes but I figured the cost of the meal is the same, so the tip is the same, whether you pay OOP or through the plan. I thought it wouldn't be necessary to compare. However, I've since noticed that the tip *is* included with the plan for a few restaurants (CRT, etc). I'm really not sure why Disney does that though.

However the price is the same only if you eat only at buffets or family service for every table service meal. Then you have also have the new factor of alcohol being included in Dining Plan.

For best comparison, pick out what you would want to eat not trying to maximize dining plan use. Then do the math. If you normally don’t eat steak, ordering steak because it cost more doesn’t make sense if you aren’t going to enjoy it. If you aren’t snack people, six snacks a day maybe to much food.

Ok I see what you are saying now. Yes I've been pricing what we would actually order through my own calculations. I was just using the site mostly to help find any discrepancies :) Thanks.
