I have direct-purchase BLT points that I am thinking of selling to buy more Poly points. I also have a VB contract that I purchased resale in 2012. Are the VB points considered direct because of when I purchased them or are points purchased directly from Disney the only points considered direct?

The VB points are currently considered to have all the same rights as direct points except for the resale restriction created in March 2011 -- you cannot use them for the Disney Collections, such as non-DVC Disney Resorts, cruises, Adventures by Disney. They are not subject to any otherl resale restrictions, all of which were created after 2012. However, if you sell them to someone else now, the purchaser will have all the existing resale restrictions created before the date of such sale.

They are still resale points. However because of when you purchased they are unrestricted resale points.

I’ve looked into this myself, and as far as I know, VB points bought resale won’t be considered direct, no matter when you bought them. Direct points are only the ones you get straight from Disney. I had the same question when I was thinking about selling some of my direct points to switch things up, but it’s good to remember that resale points don’t have the same perks, like for booking or using the points at certain resorts.
