Cigarette smoking at Orlando airport?

I am fairly certain that you can't smoke anywhere inside the terminal, but if you were taking the Magical Express, can you go outside somewhere and have a cigarette before you get on the bus? Can anyone tell where it would be O.K. to do so?

The ME counter is right at ground level, you can just walk out any of the doors to have a cigarette.

i can vouch for this fact. DW was outside of those doors so quick I think she broke the sound barrier.

I myself have been known to dart out of the fabulous automatic doors by the Magical Express counters at the speed of light. Not a problem and you will more than likely see others out there with you. There are benches out there too if you feel the need to sit after the 2 1/2 hour flight.

So, does that mean you are standing in/near a smoking zone while waiting for your DME bus?

It means you walk through a noxious cloud when you leave the indoor queue area and walk to the bus. If you are delayed getting on the bus (i.e., a passenger ahead is holding up the line) you are downwind of the fumage. The humidity and heat down help, either.

The airport does not have smoking areas like the Disney resorts. Anywhere outside is fair game.

Actually there are signs that you can't smoke "on this side of the column" which is closest to the door. While not as well defined as most smoking areas, they do try and steer you away from the actual doors.

I just walk out the doors right by were we always get our bags I always see the busses and cabs to dinsey there so must be same spot, we always have a connecting flight so its always a mad dash to find a lounge in the airport where you can smoke on our connecting flight dont always have time though going 9+ hours without one and a delayed flight can make some people very cranky.

DH dashes outside as quick as he can! Then he meets me. By then I've checked in for ME (although they haven't been having you go to the desk to do that my last two or three trips). If they aren't sending you to the desk, my daughter and I wait for him before getting in line for the correct resort.

You may be downwind of the smokers, but the exhaust fumes are much worse than the smoking fumes. I wouldn't worry about it.

I wasn't really worrying too much about it, just curious. At my home airport, there is no smoking in that area (taxi stand/bus pick-up/passenger pick up). As has been pointed out, however, the smell of the exhaust etc. is bad anyway.

I don't smoke myself; I was asking for my friends who smoke like chimneys. We'll be traveling together in a few weeks.

They're already complaining about not being able to smoke in Newark airport, so I know they'll need a nicotine fix as soon as we hit the ground in Florida.

Thanks. :)

I love the sign that greets visitors to SAN next to baggage claim: "Welcome to California, America's non-smoking section!"
