Canadians Traveling to the USA in 2025

This issue of being a solo male going to Disney is/has been real. In 2015 I was recently retired and my wife and I were planning a week at WDW. Something came up at her work and she couldn't travel with me on our departure day but would be able to join me a few days later, so no problem and we decided to burn up her Dining Plan credits with a few signature meals once she arrived. Travel day came and off I went to the NEXUS line for pre- clearance. No problems so far, "Where ya going to?" Disney World. Long uncomfortable silence and he finally says, "Disney World alone?" I said yes, and gave him the explanation that my wife would be coming to join me on Wednesday... He took my passport and left for a few minutes and eventually cleared me in when he got back. You can bet he was checking my wife's flight reservation to see if I was lying. That was in calmer times and I had a NEXUS membership that required an exhaustive background check, I wouldn't personally try it now where there seems to be some kind of quota in effect.
I've been going solo(male) for 10 years (by car)... I've always had more trouble getting back in Canada than getting into the US, It's been easier since I have NEXUS. My next trip is in 3 weeks and I'm honestly nervous, but I renewed my annual pass in October so I want to get at least one trip out of it.

I’ve flown to WDW solo many times - no issues going thru customs. I have Nexus and I’ve went thru with them not even asking a question. I’ll report back next weekend with how it goes.

At least when flying out of Canada …you are still in Canada it you have issues at the “border” The one often seen in the news about the Canadian that got held ..if you just look at headlines you would miss that they were entering from Mexico, and on a Visa, not for pleasure. If you are denied entry, do not try alternate ways to enter. (I have a relative that tried this 10 years ago - they were denied at one airport, so tried another that they had flown out of before. Of course failed. ..which is also to say it you have a VERY old thing on your criminal record that is minor - get it pardoned before you attempt to cross while trying to take your grandkid to Disney 🤪)

We are DVC and just came back from an 8 night stay as it was planned a year ago. Everything was great but I heard the Canadian staff at the Canada pavilion at Epcot have been dealing with guests making rude comments about the 51st state. We have another very short trip booked just before Christmas. Hoping things do not escalate. The Disney bubble is real but have to admit, I did feel a bit uneasy at times after watching the news.

We returned last night from our Disneyland Resort trip - stayed at Grand Californian. We had a wonderful time! Both the US Customs going down and Canadian customs coming home were completely business as usual. Didn't hear a single political/news conversation the entire week and it was GLORIOUS! Both flights completely sold out with Canadians on board.

We head back down in less than 3 weeks for a cruise out of LA down to the Mexican Riviera.

Glad you had a great time! That is a cruise I would like to do!

I have acquaintances that say the same thing. I just reply that Premier Trump may have a hard time to adjust with his being the 11’th province

Re: Your first comment - Well, then people should respect others opinion for wanting to travel to the US. It goes both ways LOL. You don't get to rant on someone for going there, and then get upset for that same person tell you to mind your business.

Re: Your second comment - Vandalism is wrong. Period.

Re: Your last comment - No one is breaking any laws traveling there. You always have to deal with Border Security and never know what will happen. How many Canadians were detained? I must have missed that in the news.
I’m not upset at anyone. You seem to be confused.

It's a shame that people can't keep their politics to themselves even when they are in the Disney bubble. I have DVC and am going in October. I don't discuss, or even mention politics when I'm there (annually for about 30 years). I'm there to have fun, cast members are there to work at helping me enjoy my vacation. Just leave it at that.

We have a wedding to attend in Orlando around Christmas and plan to visit WDW for the holidays as a side trip. We have not been visiting the US since I cancelled my Christmas 2020 trip due to COVID. The cost is so much higher now comparing to 2020. I have been visiting other continents since 2020, and would not choose to visit US during this controversial time if we are not attending this wedding. We have NEXUS and we are flying. I hope we can stay safe inside the Disney bubble. For the wedding, we will be staying at the same hotel as where the wedding is held. Hope to stay safe that way too.

Safe travel to fellow Canadians who decide to go to US for whatever reasons! I believe the decisions would not be easy ones.

Unfortunately the U.S. does not recognize Canadian pardons of criminal records. :( All they see is the initial criminal charges on their end. The only way is to apply for a waiver with the U.S., which can be quite a lengthy / costly process.

More trouble? You're Canadian aren't you?
Actually, I can relate to that. Back in 2017 I was returning from dropping off my son at Buffalo Airport. The Canadian customs officer asked me a string of questions:
What's your citizenship? I mean, he was holding my passport.
Where have you been? Buffalo Airport
Why were you there? Dropping my son off
Where's he going? San Diego
Why? Internship
How long will he be there? At this point I burst into tears, replying "3 years", I'd been holding back the tears all the way from the airport, and I just couldn't do it any more.
He finally handed me my passport and waved me on.
I mean, come on. I'm Canadian and out of the country for 3 hours. Seriously?

I have had some weird experiences.

Being dropped off at Buffalo in like 2011/2012 at the Buffalo crossing had to show my hotel reservation, flight information, my tickets to the hockey and football games I was going to.
In 2022 I went to Colorado for New Years. I swear he wasn't going to let me in. He kept looking at his computer, looking at me and tapping my passport. It was uncomfortable and I am a naturally nervous and awkward person. So I was nervous as hell.
Twice I have had them ask the basic questions, then ask if I have a credit card on me.

Idk. I also come from a place where I had a bad run in with a Maga person. At the Crew's Cup Lounge. Sitting there and this lady starts talking to me and gets onto politics. It was uncomfortable and she was drunk and aggressive. And this was on Disney property.

Sometimes short trips can be perceived as suspicious where they can suspect you are either bringing contraband across the border or large sums of cash.

Welp, another potential Disney trip is in the booking stage. Made a reservation at the Grand Californian in July. It was on our bucket list. Plan to take my niece to Disneyland for the first time in 11 years. She was only 10 months old the last time she went. They were going to the US anyways to visit family (my SIL is from there) Hesitant to book a flight yet, right now just have hotel reservations that can be cancelled.

I can add buying flights on very short notice. We were questioned quite extensively in 2013 when we made a last minute trip to Disney, as in booking on Friday and flying on Saturday. In the end all we needed to say is that we were fed up with our crappy winter weather, lol.

Yup. I once flew a few hours after the ticket was purchased. And it was a one-way ticket that was purchased for me by someone else (my sibling's company) and I had just left the US (for Canada) a few days earlier. I could understand why they were asking questions, to be fair.
