Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

The problem is the paucity of that kind of place around Crescent Lake. Shula's and Phins over at Swan & Dolphin are OK for sports bars, and Fountains and Beaches and Cream for diner style food, but that's about it. I'd love to see a Millers Ale House or Duffy's Sports Grill in the former Big River space, for a true sports bar - lots of TVs, lively sports crowd, and plentiful American Bar food and appetizers.
On a lighter note, am I the only person who read the bolded text and imagined a sports bar hosted by Duffy Bear and his pals? 🤣

You know, I think it could work, brews and sports for the parents and sing alongs with craft activities in the child care center with Duffy, Stella Lou, and Cookie Ann. 🤣

Actually, I was thinking about another Duff. But Universal already has that covered.

A Simpsons' themed Duff Sports bar would honestly be incredible--they could probably charge CakeBake pricing for at least the first year, lol. I don't know how broad the existing rights' license is, and if it would cover the Boardwalk.

I mean....this exists. Sort of.

Edited to add: Sorry, wrong coast at first.
And it’s never been busy when I’ve stopped by. Of course if the idea is to add TVs to give it more of a sports bar feel maybe that would help. This also feels like something that would go into HS if they ever decided to do it and I’m not convinced they would.

(Haven’t eaten there but from what I’ve heard the food isn’t great at Uni Duff’s, which probably doesn’t help. Flaming Moe’s is fun though)

I just saw a FB post where the poster received a beautiful golden ticket invitation to stop by for a complimentary bakery item and beverage. They posted a photo of a boxed slice of the raspberry champagne cake and an iced coffee. I won't post it here because it's not my pictures but if you're a member of a DVC FB group, you might see it.

Probably the same photo my family member sent me, lol.

While I agree that the BW location theoretically has a lot of access to customers around Crescent Lake and via Skyliner, many of these people are typically trying to save money by staying at AOA, Pop, CBR and the Swalphin resorts. I don't see this group as the target customer base. Even YC/BC/BW are a different "spending" category than GF/Poly/CR.

Had this been located adjacent to GF, you would have had the prestige of being in the MK area with arguably the biggest spenders on property. It would be off the monorail which hails guests from 3 high priced resorts, boat access from WL, and access to ALL of the guests coming through the TTC going to MK.

Summer House is not quite as hyper-feminine and fancy - and prices are definitely not as high. Similar vibes though.

BTW - for any who aren't familiar with it, Duffy's is a large Florida sports bar chain - there are dozens on both coasts, and even a few not far from Orlando (Altamonte and Lake Mary), so if any chain might want to move into that turf, a well-established Florida sports bar chain would be a perfect fit.

Many people choose to stay at cheaper hotels on Disney property so they can splurge on dinners/experiences.

I also agree that Cake Bake's theming probably fits better at GF, but I disagree that the monorail resorts have the guests with the most disposable income. This is just my gut feeling from staying at GF and BWI for decades, with the occasional strays to Poly and YC. There's a certain level of aggressiveness and "loudness" that don't associate with the "big spenders". That level is highest at Poly and lowest at BWI and YC. Again, this is just my observation without any backup data.

And the recently opened Summer House on the Lake is pretty much the exact same type of restaurant. They would have probably been competing for the same customer base.
I don't think it's anything like it? Summer house is more breezy california(ish) vibe with a menu to match.
The Cake Bake shop is very pretentious, one is modeld after a Enchanted Rose Forest, the other a Romantic Rose Garden and Im not sure about the Boardwalk theme but early photos seem to be much of the same. Other then they both just so happen to have a bakery, I'm not sure where the similarities exsist.

It gives me similar vibes. I think it’s a combination of the greenery/lights and the promise of a relaxing unrushed experience. I do think it may have a similar client base.

Only until 2028… So, given Cake Bake’s construction timeline I think we can expect a WDW announcement around Jan for the Simpson’s Dining Experience?

But that's my point. They are staying at those hotels to save money. I never said they don't splurge on anything. They will by nature be more choosey on how they spend their money.

Absolutely! Anymore I mostly either rent DVC points or stay at S/D with AP discount. What I save in just one night is enough to upgrade four dinners from quick service to signature when I am solo. Over a six-day trip it pretty much pays for all of my dining twice over, or all dining for two people when someone is with me. And we eat wherever we want.
