Best way to book excursions?

First time Disney cruiser coming up on date to book excursions. Is the best approach to go to the app at midnight or is there somewhere else where you book them?

Also, anyway to see what excursions are completely booked ahead of time?

It’s best to get up at midnight and book through the Disney Cruise Line app. As a first-time cruiser, your chances of securing your desired excursions might be limited since seasoned DCL cruisers get priority and may have already reserved popular options. Unfortunately, there’s no way to see which excursions are fully booked ahead of time—you’ll only know once you log into the app. Best of luck!

Only way is if your cruise has a cruise meet thread going. You could post there and ask if anyone who's already past their excursion booking date could look and see if a specific excursion you're interested in is still available.

You can also book tours with local providers on your own. Just leave yourself a lot of padding, time wise. Like a tour than ends at 3, and the ship is in port until 6. Don’t cut it close.

This is what I do. We've enjoyed our 3rd party excursions much more than the couple of DCL excursions we've done. Plus there's usually a lot more options to choose from.

Your FB group for your sailing might be willing to share what is available or sold out. Often Platinum and Pearl cruisers will help out by sharing what they are seeing.

I do DCL excursions if we're going far afield from the port (usually >1 hour drive). While they won't hold the ship indefinitely if the excursion is late, Fantasy waited 45 minutes for us to get back from our Tulum excursion (very awesome time). Knowing I was on a DCL excursion, I didn't even look at my watch and took a nap on the bus returning from the site. I was the last person in line to board and as I stepped across the brow, the crew began to secure it and close up the entryway. We got underway less than ten minutes later.

If we're staying in the general port area, I've no problem going 3rd party (after checking them out on Cruise Critic & Tripadvisor).

As long as our destination is under 30 minutes away, we always do tours on our own.
Cheaper than Disney and generally a better experience.

(If its a long drive, involves a ferry to another island then we stick to the ship sponsored tours.)

We just checked for our Port Adventures in Sicily and saw all 3 port adventures to Taormina are already sold out. What are the chances they become available closer to the trip again? And can you book a second adventure first and then cancel the one you already had, or doesn’t the system allow two reservations for different Port Adventures at the same time?

No, the system won’t yet you book 2 port adventures for the same time.
