All You Need is Love: an offsite, non-Disney PTR (counting down to May 2018)

:tigger::simba:Hey @dancin Disney style is your daughter still dancing?
@Gina-Gina-Bo-Bina Dis unplugged just did a review of the Edison. It looked amazing and the entertainment might be right up your alley. You can book on Open Table

So to interrupt your pre trip report. I called Sheraton Vistana Village today to see if I could send a parcel there ( kids want to stock up on dance stuff) and I spoke to Russell and asked how to get a room request. He was so nice! He told me the building I picked (23) was his favourite. I then asked for a top floor. He told me my requests were too easy and took care of everything. Then told me when he worked in case I needed him.

15 sleeps!

Yes. GC is doing her BFA in dance. She also made the comp dance team at her university. They are going to four comps in March. It’s going to be a killer month. What is your crew up to?

Nice one on the SheratonVV. It’s always so nice when you get a great employee on the phone that can help you out. Have a great vacay.

Both are at NBS. My daughters program is joint with York so she goes there in 2019 for two years to finish her HBFA. Son is in grade 10. Lots of Ballet in our house.

GC is at York now and has the option to add on a year at the end to go to the NBS. Their paths may cross.

Hi all, just checking in briefly to wish you all a good weekend! We arrived at Jake's apartment late last evening after a surprisingly civilized drive from Michigan (great weather, no traffic woes, and no construction or accident delays) and we will be spending a few days with our boy before heading home on Monday.

I will do my best to catch up with y'all sometime next week. In the meantime, have a great weekend wherever you happen to be!

All this chatter about Costco makes me jealous we don't have one! I've only ever visited the one in London I think it was, and was instantly in love!

You silly, funny, wonderful people :rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:...... I have literally laughed out loud at some of your posts today!! I will be back to answer them all either later tonight or earlier tomorrow (@bankr63 , you KNOW I've got a comment or two about the visual you created for us all :bitelip: ) but for now, the update I promised!! (before I get sidetrack yet again :rolleyes1 .... seems to be my bad habit lately)

So, that leads us to..........

Accommodations :)

While every once in a while we stray from the norm and stay somewhere different (usually on those years where we’re fortunate enough to squeeze in 3 trips versus our customary 2), this May it will be “the usual”: we are returning “home” to Sheraton Vistana Resort :cloud9:.

As those who regularly read my reports already know, we fell in love with SVR on our first stay in 2013, and its been hard to consider any other property since. It really is the place that just wraps us in that warm feeling that everyone searches for on vacation: it’s relaxing, and peaceful, and so incredibly beautiful :goodvibes.

With all the great amenities on the property (7 pools, 6 hot tubs, 13 tennis courts, mini golf, shuffle board, surrey bike rentals, scheduled daily activities, and a whole host of other features) there’s also no shortage of fun for those seeking recreation or entertainment. In fact, for our autumn trip, we are pledging to FINALLY do an (almost) exclusively resort vacation.....other than perhaps a MNSSHP or HHN, it will be no parks and all SVR.

Our villa, at 1260 square feet, is always more than the two of us really “need”……yet, after enjoying all the space and amenities of the timeshare life (a full kitchen with a breakfast bar, two full bathrooms, a screened in balcony, in-suite laundry, a king sized bed and jacuzzi tub in the master, and three flat-screen TV’s) we can’t fathom spending a week in a regular hotel room. I know that sounds bad, but we’ve become woefully spoiled .

The Vistana is a very large resort, with multiple sections, but we know we will be in Fountains I as that’s where our ownership is. Over the years, we’ve actually been able to try out several different areas of the resort: in addition to Fountains, we’ve also had the pleasure of enjoying vacations in the Spas, Lakes, and Fountains II. Without question, Fountains I is our preference: the Fountains pool, with the 7’ middle depth, in-water volleyball net and beautiful waterfall (not to mention, the proximity to the Tacky Tiki Bar) is our favourite pool among the “big 3” -- the Fountains, Cascades, and Super pools.

14639827_10155141415106416_8205295322052576637_n.jpg

We also LOVE the way the hot tub area is incorporated into the Fountains pool complex: two separate tubs, one upper and one lower, tucked discretely into the rock behind the waterfall, just far enough from the hullabaloo of the pool to be peaceful but close enough to be steps from the action. It remains our favorite way to finish off the day: and we can pretty much devote time there after each day at the parks, at the pool and hot tubs in Fountains are both open daily until 1 am.

While our timeshare week allows us to enjoy a 7 night stay as our ownership entitlement, this stay will actually be 8 nights in length: and that extra night is not costing us a dime this time around :thumbsup2. After a very unusual (but major) disruption suffered on our May 2016 vacation, the resort security manager sent us a letter of apology along with an offer of a complimentary 2 night future stay; a gesture that was not expected but very much appreciated. While our schedules (and the cats) didn’t permit us staying the full extra two nights on this trip (darn it), it allowed us to tack on at least one extra day and arrive on the Friday evening versus the Saturday night. An extension is an extension, even if it’s a short one ::yes::.

14639613_10155141372571416_6096368750659136089_n.jpg

Two weeks before our arrival, we will submit our room requests via the resort’s online pre-arrival system (Diamond Lane) and put in our customary request for a top floor unit, close to the pool area: we love the third floor villas in Fountains, as they have wonderful vaulted ceilings with skylights that make the rooms feel absolutely massive and bright.

22552567_10156203485841416_2625057732341550400_n.jpg

It does mean that we have to walk up and down the stairs every time we enter and leave our villa, but lord knows we can use the extra exercise with all the indulgent meals we enjoy in the south :rolleyes2.

Anything that makes me feel a teeny tiny less guilty about my hot fudge sundae at Twistee Treat is a happy bonus ;).

Your pictures are beautiful!
I am going for the first time this March break!
Can you tell me what section of the hotel to avoid?
Is the spring section nice?

All this chatter about Costco makes me jealous we don't have one! I've only ever visited the one in London I think it was, and was instantly in love!
We don't either! I am now curious as to what it's all about. We have a Sam's club but I didn't renew last year bc I was getting better prices other places.

Hope you've had a great weekend in Canada with Jake. Have you seen the email from Discovery Cove yet about the new "Paradise Nights", you and Steve might enjoy this.

We arrived at Jake's apartment late last evening after a surprisingly civilized drive from Michigan (great weather, no traffic woes, and no construction or accident delays) and we will be spending a few days with our boy before heading home on Monday.

I know your mom heart was exploding seeing your boy. I hope he's doing well and you had a fabulous time!

Hi everyone!

Just popping in for a quick moment to say hey :). We just got back around an hour ago from a wonderful weekend home. We were blessed with the most enjoyable family time, both with Jake and our respective parents. Other than a horrible drive home (we ran into snow in Brampton, and it got progressively worse as we headed west.......then we spent more than an hour stopped on the 401 behind a multi-vehicle accident in Tilbury, making for a VERY long journey) it was a heartwarming, wonderful weekend. For those of you who aren't connected with me on Facebook, here's a few photos that I shared of our Saturday night with the crew:

My momma, Jake and me:

Steve and his parents:

And my huggable, loveable, snuggable little grandcat:

I cannot even begin to tell you how good it was to see that boy of mine . And, I'm proud to say he's doing awesome. He's a strong one, my Jake.

I have been reading all of your posts throughout the weekend and I have so much to catch up on!! Hopefully I will be able to carve out some time after work tomorrow evening to sit down with the laptop and jump back into the chatter. That's the plan :thumbsup2.

In the meantime, I can finally share the other news that's been quietly humming away in the background.....one of the other reasons I've been less than prompt at keeping this report as updated as I would have liked. Steve and I have been a bit preoccupied lately as we've been in the beginning stages of house-hunting......and as of today, I can officially say.....

We bought a new home!

It's a beautiful condo in a historically-inspired neighborhood here in SE Michigan. We fell in love with the community when we first drove through it earlier this month, and we knew immediately that's where we wanted to put down roots.

Now that our offer has officially been accepted, we've got a crazy busy few months ahead as we will move BEFORE our May vacation :crazy2:. Let's just say we will REALLY need a holiday by the time we board that plane!!

27073002_10156472289666416_6899339550980657215_n.jpg

So, bear with me! I will do my best to get another update posted soon. In the meantime, thanks for your patience as I juggle this crazy, chaotic, unpredictable life of mine . Never a dull moment!

Congrats on the condo! Great photos! I spied the Swiss Chalet in the background. That's the place I had my first poutine from. Not at the restaurant, I think one of my friend's parents picked it up on the way home for dinner when I was visiting them outside Toronto. If I remember correctly it went something like - you've never had poutine? Where can we get some without having to go out? It was good. I introduced some friends to it on a trip to DC when we ate at Elephant & Castle (yum). I may need to try the poutine stand at DS this fall.

Congrats on the new home purchase! I love it. It reminds me of a Disney resort! lol Love the veranda. Can picture you sitting out there with your coffee or beverage while surfing the disboards. :)

So glad that you had a great weekend! I know it was so good to see Jake and both of your parents. Congrats on your new home! :)

Awesome. Congratulations on a new home. Looks wonderful and a pretty condo. So happy you got some back home time with Jake and family. Grandkitty time too.

We get snow today and Friday. Yay! for Winter. Not. So ready for warmer temps. Your May trip should have lovely temps. Just right, and hopefully not too hot or cold.

Not quite in vacation countdown mode yet. At least little one's school district sent out the next year's calendar. So, we know what days will be winter break already. That's a good thing. At least one more year, and our local school district's calendar won't be an issue. Just what 2 colleges' schedules of where our kids will be at. I know the one of the older one, but I doubt very much little one will go to that same one. Knowing our luck, their Spring Breaks will not be at the same time. So much for our end of summer vacations that will continue to be a no go, for the next 5 years. Sigh, school and school sports.

Jake does look good! I'm glad he's doing well. Congrats on the condo purchase! Moving is never fun but having a trip to Florida right after makes it more bearable!

Gorgeous condo! Congrats! And I love your grandcat! Isn't it so cute how they always just have to sit on your clothes, paperwork, etc!

Congratulations on the new home!

I know it was a great weekend for you being able to catch up and see family and Jake!
