Both my dd's recently got their ears pierced so I've been watching for sales on 14k earrings to buy for birthdays and things coming up. Kohls has quite a few on sale, but then I don't know if screw backs are better, or if they're more of a pain. I don't want to break the bank, but don't want to buy earrings that are too cheaply made and just throw that money away either. Anyone have suggestions on a good place to look? My girls are 7 and 5 btw.

I just found some at TJ Maxx last week. There were 4 pairs in one box for $60 something and would be perfect for your girls. Of course, you have to keep checking because their stock is constantly changing.

I have been getting my 6 yr old the little huggy style hoops (they hug the ear lobes). She finds them more comfortable than the post style earrings. I have been getting them for her at our local jeweler & find that their prices are actually better than the dept. stores. We have an indoor flea market/jewlery market and they often have them for under $25 per pair.

I purchased these from ebay and am very happy with them. I have sensitive ears and have to wear real gold earrings. This is a great price for 10 pairs of mickey earrings and they don't look cheap. I don't even have to worry about losing them as I have 10 pairs and they were so inexpensive. :thumbsup2

Someties KMart has some great deals on 14K gold earrings, that's all my 6 y.o dd can wear and they have a great kids selection too. Walmart carries some too I think!

Walmart carries kids earrings in 14k gold (but not all are so just check the labels) from $10-$25 a pair. They have the mickey earrings ones too that arielray posted, they were $15 or $20.

Walmart has a great selection and there is a percing pagoda in our mall that carries a good selection for great prices as well. At their ages, I would have them stick to a basic few until you are sure they will leave them alone and not lose any.

Please be careful with the GP or gold plated earrings. If you or your children have a sensitivity to othe metals such as nickel, then these GP earrings can still cause inflamation or irritation, as the very thin layer of gold often wears off easily, especially on the posts.

We have had the best luck with our local jeweler.

Good Luck!

I found some at walmart the other day that said they were 14k but they were plated. :( I wore them for about 3 weeks until the plating finally wore off and made my ears itch like crazy. I'd like to find some cute mickey ones but all the ones i've found are plated as well. ah well, the search continues. :)

I have gotten Mickey, Minnie, Ariel and Tink gold (not plated) earrings at Walmart. It was a few years ago but I got them for around $20 when I hit a sale.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I have lots of allergies myself, so that's why I'm going the route of solid 14k for my girls right now.

I have gotten several pair at Kohls that didn't last at all. I did buy 14K hoops at KMart and wear them daily they are at least 3 years old! I have found nice ones at TJ Maxx and Marshalls.

QVC.com is also a good place to check. In addition to some nice children's jewelry...they do carry Disney, HSM, and Hannah 14 k jewelry too.

I highly recommend screw backs. My girls (7 and 4) have both had their ears pierced since they were 6 months old. I took them the day they got their shots so we got all the 'sticking' over with on the same day (and my pediatrician said not to do it until then). I did this so that they would grow up with the earrings as just part of them - and wouldn't bother/play with them. It worked very well. My oldest daughter started asking to change her earrings a couple years ago and I let her, buying cute and fun earrings. It wasn't long before we were putting back in her screw backs because the other earrings hurt/irritated her ears. The other thing about the screw backs is that they protect the posts so they aren't poking into their head. I bought them at my local jewelry store (the stores in the mall didn't carry screw backs - I checked) - between $40 and $50 each. A little expensive, but they've worn them for years now and I think the money was well spent. My oldest has a small heart with a little bow that dangles down. My youngest has two interlocking hearts. Both sets are very small.

I don't know the prices but JcPenney sells kids jewelry. Disney and other characters. They had earrings, necklaces and I think bracelets. It's in the glass cases.

Hi there OP. My DD 8 had her ears pierced for her 7th birthday. We lost a few earrings before I figured out this trick. Go to Piercing Pagoda at the mall or probably anywhere that pierces ears and ask to purchase the safety backs they use on the starter stud earrings. They only cost about $3.00 per set and now we never loose our earrings. These pop on, don't screw, completely cover the back of the post and don't come off easily although I could always get them off her and now she can too. I also only buy 14 K gold earrings and have purchased them at Kohls although I find some of the decorative ones to be flimsy. Also try JC Penney and the Piercing Pagoda, they all have coupons and great deals. It's easier to spend a little more on the earrings when you know they won't be lost (I usually find cute pairs for about $19-$24.00) But they are solid 14K.

Good Luck!

My dd went thru a phase where she was constantly losing her earrings. I found that KMart had the lowest prices for real gold. Usually gold is 70% off sometimes more. She had hoops, little cats, dolphins & gemtstones. I didnt mind so much losing an earring that was only $8-12 bucks. Now she prefers the "cool" styles from Claires Boutique (not real gold).

Thank you for mentioning this about the backs. They both got their ears pierced at Piercing Pagoda, but I didn't realize you could buy additional backs like the ones that come with the starter studs--that is a great tip. I will definitely look into that.

I went to Kohl's today with a friend and didn't see that much selection for 14K earrings, particularly in child styles. I have checked with QVC, but their prices seemed high compared to Kmarts online prices. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I knew I could count on the budget boarders :thumbsup2
