What is it about Disney that keeps you coming back?

So currently I'm on my laptop as per always, with 3 other tabs open.

-Walt Disney World Website 1 week Pop

-Exedia.ca Rome 1 week

-Expedia.ca Beijing 1 week

and the problem is, I'm seriously leaning in on the Disney trip. I've been to Disney 11 times, I've been to Beijing once in 2004, and I've never been to Rome. The trips I'm looking at are all around $2500 CAD. So why do I want to go back to Disney more? heck, when I was down with the family in Florida last week we drove past the Disney gates but didn't go in; I could feel my whole body clench to keep me from jumping out on the highway to run inside. (hyperbole, but not far off.)

What is it about Disney that once it gets in your blood you keep wanting to come back? is it the familiarity? the service? the ease of planning? or is it mass hypnosis? What makes this place so much more in the forefront of vacation planning?

I've asked myself this question many times. I've been close to 20 times now, and I have another trip coming up in February. It all boils down to the fact that I'm not one to lounge around (so there goes the beach vacations, fancy resort/lay around at pool drinking all day) trips, I'm not too interested in nature/scenery either. I have been many places in my life (i'm 34) and luckily i've been overseas a couple of times and have had some great experiences but there's only a few places I haven't been that i'd like to see, but i'll NEVER turn down an opportunity to go to Disney World. I always want to include something Disney to a trip if I'm not taking a full Disney World vacation - for example - if someone suggests a cruise, my first comment is "Is it a Disney cruise???" - que the eye rolls - lol. I don't know, Disney just makes me happy and I loved going on the Disney cruise because when the day was over you still had the "Magic" back on the ship but got to experience something outside of the theme park. Another example would be if I was going to CA - well, then I have to stop at DL - why? because it's there. Disney will always be a part of my life, and while the service/ease of being in their theme parks isn't what it used to be, I'll deal with it. Some people get it and some people don't.

I'm also never bored at Disney - there's always something to do and i've never had a horrible trip that would make me not want to return.

Always something to do. The atmosphere of the parks. Entertainment, activities, food all easily accessible-no driving all day between locations. Outside or inside activities weather doesn't matter. Familiar themes, characters, movies, memories. Something for everyone. Know what you are getting.

I think it is easy planning. But we have not gone the last 2 years by choice. Too much construction. We are planning 2019 with 3 new grandsons.

Truthfully I think you will love Rome, and I think not going to Disney so often like we have the last 10 years, will give us a fresh perspective with so many new things developed. Give it some thought, Disney is easy to go to, Rome will be so new and different.

I haven't been to WDW since late 2015. Too many negative changes so it doesn't really keep me going back anymore. That being said, I've taken a big interest in some of the other Disney parks around the world. I've been fortunate enough to visit Disney Tokyo, Paris, and Disneyland in the past 18 months. Will check out Disney HK next month. I love new experiences and have enjoyed them all very much.

Disneyland is now my favorite and if I need a future Disney fix, that will likely be my destination. It fits my touring style a little better.

Disney hits all the right notes for me & DW. It's been a lifelong passion, it just what we do. :earsboy:

So many things, some of which are hard to put into words. I think overall for me it's the predictability, familiarity, and the fact that the entire vacation can be contained in basically one area. We vacationed in St Louis this summer (I know, it's absolutely nothing like Disney), but it was so stressful having to make decisions about what to see and where to go and then driving back and forth between hotel and the different sights, navigating traffic. With Disney you could walk all day within a contained area and hit one neat attraction after another, eat all your meals right there, and then take a bus home to your resort that keeps the vacation magic going from morning until night, with all the employees at each place being totally invested in your having a great time. There is something for every age and attractions for good or bad weather (unlike say, an all inclusive resort at a beach or ranch where it could rain all week and ruin the entertainment).

I grew up very middle lower class, big family with not a whole lot of money. Parents worked hard but a Disney trip was never an option. Now as an adult with the means to be able to go somewhere like that is very meaningful to me and to be able to take my son and show him something I was never able to at a time when it will hit the hardest is nice. Also it's clean and well run, you are never far away from whatever it is you need. I hate rides at fairs and stuff but at Disney I'm gung ho to ride anything.

For me it's similar to what a previous poster said-
I like familiarity.
I don't like change.
I was raised a Disney kid so I "get it".
I have little interest in seeing new things especially abroad.
I am fortunate to be able to do to Disney as often as I want with a deluxe stay budget, although in recent years I have scaled back because I just think it's a waste of money for what you get. For example, I don't think staying club level is worth it anymore. I'd rather stay deluxe non club with a great view for less money.

For me Disney can be maddening. We visit every year. We just came back from a 2 week visit and there were some aspects I absolutely hated. This was our first trip with no car and I hated using the busses. Some trips took over an hour when I knew we could of driven ourselves in 10 minutes.
Crowds especially at MK were constantly bad. Quality issues with our Disney resorts. Some long waits for dining reservations and when we did not have a reservation then crazy long waits. HS is an embarrassment right now. And not Disney’s fault but we had a bad cold snap.
But I’m home now and thinking of planning another visit? Why?
Because every staff person we dealt with was terrific, we all love AK and Epcot, and Disney succeeded in delivering countless special, truly magical moments like the Festival of Fantasy Parade or playing with the kids around the tree at Boardwalk and having a choir suddenly appear singing beautiful Christmas songs or my 2 year old flipping out when meeting Mickey for the first time etc. But next time I’m gonna drive. ;)

One thing that brings us back is no driving. DH drives for a living and is in his semi 10-12 hours a day most days. With Disney, once we get to the airport, he is done driving for the week. Yes, I could drive on a vacation but even then we have to try navigating in a strange place so it's not relaxing for him. At Disney no worries. We do go other places every other year but I try to find places that are easy to get around and not large cities.

We've become Disneyfied over the years so we're all just really into it. DD19 is an artist and loves drawing Disney. She drew sketches in an autograph book and the characters were over the moon seeing drawings of themselves. The girls are known as the Disney experts at school. Just things like that make our life have another fun facet to it.
