DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

So I had my doctor's appointment today, and this was a referral from the VA, so I didn't have to pay a thing. This is a shortened/Cliff Notes version of what happened, but I get to the front desk and the receptionist greeted me warmly. She then asked for a photo ID, VA Card and insurance information. I told her that I have yet to get my VA card and that this was through the VA. She then said, "I know this is through the VA, I can see that (with an air of superiority), but I need your insurance information." My response: "This is through the VA, and I was told I didn't need to give it to you." She then pressed the issue and then I finally told her that I didn't have insurance. Then the shakes her head at me and goes to sit down. I got mad. I wanted to say something but I was nice and held my tongue. Maybe I should have, but I was being nice. I think that's my problem sometimes is that I'm too nice.

morning gents

Good luck on your first day without training wheels. I'm sure you'll be fine, just keep your head down and watch where you're going.

:rotfl2: Let's hope it doesn't go quite like that. Thanks.

Community care through the VA is kind of a pain in the butt. I have TRICARE too since I am retired and they usually end up billing my TRICARE when I am going to a private doc through the VA. People can't figure out there is a difference. Sometimes it is like talking to a wall in these billing departments.

Right. That's it. I'm calling it. Work week over. Everyone out. Last one standing in Beaches in the Grand Floridian after Captain's Mai Tais gets to take Mary Poppins home. And let me tell ya, after a few of those Mai Tai's it's not just the medicine going down.

Have a great weekend chaps.

Happy Friday and how nice is it to have March Madness back! Think of this time last year with everything just coming to a permanent stop. Looking forward to lots of hoops over the next few days. Good to hear the the new jobs are working out for those starting a new. Have a good weekend my friends, bacon, bourbon, cigars and Mickey bars! Oh yea, and be safe out there.

@londontime I don't want any hits put out on me...Happy Laugh Day

So that's what an authentic British accent sounds like!

Your restraint is admirable.

And yet... I was so sure you were going to mention Dick Van Dyke somehow!

How about those Golden Eagles!

What a blur of the past 2 days.

Yesterday, I ended up discharging 9/10 patients, and in doing so, cleared our COVID unit. We still have and will have a few others, but we are no longer needing to dedicate a whole floor. That's great news you won't hear in the media.

Today, I had another 10 new patients. It felt overwhelming at the beginning, but I got everyone seen, 2 discharged, and did most of the work to get people home tomorrow or Sunday. It's a lot of work and it kept me busy all day. I still have to get up to 15-20 papatients. I don't want to work this hard.

Morning, gents, from a wet and blustery Cape Cod. Found out yesterday that they've decided that I'm ready to be taken out of training mode and shifted into a real floater reception position. Found this out kind of the hard way. Each week our scheduler sends out the list of where the floaters will be for the week. Well, I never got the list. Instead I got an email from a practice manager saying that she has me and one other floater next week. I was like, "Um....I'm where next week? I haven't received any news of this." So I called my manager and found out she forgot to include me in the distribution list. I then asked if I was still training and was told no. So it's real now. I'm a bit nervous knowing that I'm no longer training, and my manager caught that nervousness in my voice. I told her that I feel ready, but that because it's now here the nerves have kicked in. She understood. I also told her that I'm fairly confident in checking patients in and out, it's the other stuff that'll pop up that I may not have answers to that makes me nervous. But, as I told her, there has to be a beginning at some point, and next week is it. So this is it. Can't wait to prove my worth. Actually, my manager did tell me that she's heard nothing but good things about me, so there's a plus. Well, that's it. Have today off for a doctor's appointment and other things that were scheduled some time back. Have a good day, gents, and we'll chat later.

Hobo.

I had EPIC freeze on me twice this week, and boy was it annoying, and one was right in the middle of checking in a patient. I had to finish checking that patient in after she was done. In order for that to get resolved, I had to call IT, who then had to call EPIC just to get them to sign me out. Man was that annoying. So I feel your pain on tech issues.

I still haven't figured out how to use the headset. I'm not really at my desk long enough to stay on it, but there are a few treatment team meetings I have to participate in, so it would be helpful.

Gotcha. I did the initial training via computer, watching videos. This last week and a half has been spent with people sitting next to me, but the initial training was by video, so I understand. I am now all on my own next week. Wwweeee!

Good luck. It was a bit overwhelming for me at first. I got all the work done on 9/10 patients today around 1:30, and then had to spend close to 2 hours on a complex patient. Even though I knew it would be rough, I finally found some relief around 1:30.

I may be getting my first dose of vaccine this weekend, although I haven't received confirmation yet. Hopefully that will come through. I'm really hoping for super powers.

No super powers here. I've had my two doses.

Community care through the VA is kind of a pain in the butt. I have TRICARE too since I am retired and they usually end up billing my TRICARE when I am going to a private doc through the VA. People can't figure out there is a difference. Sometimes it is like talking to a wall in these billing departments.

Dealing with the VA is super difficult. We have to call the VA clinic where they are a patient, who has to call another VA clinic for approval, who then decides what civilian company we can use for DME, after the 2nd VA sends us the specific forms, and after we return them, send orders to the DME company.

Right. That's it. I'm calling it. Work week over. Everyone out. Last one standing in Beaches in the Grand Floridian after Captain's Mai Tais gets to take Mary Poppins home. And let me tell ya, after a few of those Mai Tai's it's not just the medicine going down.

Bravo.

I've hit the bourbon today. I'm not sure I'd consider us all the way back since we still have all these restrictions, but it's a start.

Morning, Gents! Not much on the agenda today except clean and organize. Oh, and maybe checking out the comfort level of my chair for a possible early afternoon nap....but we'll see. If the DW's home don't think it'll happen. Well, that's it. Have a good day.

I don't have TRICARE, at least I don't think that's what it's called, as I didn't retire, but I do have a small disability that's allowing me to use the VA for some healthcare. And this was my first venture into the VA system....second actually. The first was just a basic Dr.'s visit, which went well. This was for something else I was sent out for, and the receptionist was rude. I was specifically told by the Dr. to NOT give up my insurance card because this was all on the VA, but she insisted. And it was how she responded to me that was rude and annoyed me. Well it's done, and unless I have to go back I won't see her again.

Thanks, but sometimes I wish I wasn't so nice.

That's me! :teeth::smooth:

The headset is so worth it. I insisted on having one when I worked in the legal field...so worth it.

Good luck. It was a bit overwhelming for me at first. I got all the work done on 9/10 patients today around 1:30, and then had to spend close to 2 hours on a complex patient. Even though I knew it would be rough, I finally found some relief around 1:30.

Thanks, it'll be overwhelming for sure, but I suspect that because of my Fax Server background, which they said is an asset for me, I'll be put on scanning backlogged documents instead of checking in/out patients, but we'll see. Either way I'll be working, and that, my dear friends, is what I want.

That's crazy.

Happy Weekend Men! Our last weekend as a family of 4. My mom is coming in today from California to stay for a month. A blessing and a curse...hope everyone has a stellar weekend headed out to the farm and ranch supply with boys.
All the best mate, good luck 👍

Happy Saturday. My last solo day as DW is returning from a spring break vacation with a friend from college. Funny how I've retired as she's the one taking vacations. Well, I have my truck. :lmao:

Been watching a show on Prime called "The Island". Bear Grylls drops off 16 british people to survive on an island for 5 weeks, however, no voting people off and there are camera operators and medical personnel included among the 16. It's been fairly interesting, and like 007 said, the phrase "taking a p1$$" is used in many contexts. Then, there is the "proper tosser" phrase thrown about.

She was rude, but following orders. We have people 100% service connected with VA, which means it pays all. Others aren't as covered, so both VA and private insurance can be billed. Or, both can be pre-cert for the cheaper price or personal choice provider. That's at the hospital. I think it would be different at the VA, especially if just an appointment and not for placement or ongoing medical equipment/ needs. Still, our staff checking patients in are told to get both.

But you're having fun, right? :P

I don't know. I definitely have fun when the paycheck arrives. Both Thursday and Friday AM, facing 10 new patients each day and the amount of work, no, I wasn't having fun. I felt overwhelmed. And, I thought I had made a mistake in working there. By the end of the day, I felt like I had accomplished quite a bit, and felt a sense of satisfaction. I told my boss as much. The boat is still out on fun though.

A whole month?!? :scared1::eek:

Good luck. DW has a different relationship with her family than mine, but I don't think either of us could handle a month with any of our relatives. But, we only have a small house. If I had a place further out in the county with some acreage, I may feel better with space to escape.

yeah I am the same way with my family. I always joke there is a reason I keep a 3 state buffer between us. But your right I can always find something to do all day on 30 acres. Glad to have 8 weeks off of paid paternal leave though lots of farmstead projects to do.

Thanks for the tip. Right now I'm in the middle of catching up (bingeing) with Masterchef Canada. And I watch an episode or two of MASH on Disney+ before bed. Plus still watching House (only 2 more seasons to go), but usually when I'm at work on a break or the midnight shift.
All that to say, I'll keep it in mind, but... might be a bit before I get there.

Morning Gents.

It's been an eventful weekend here , went to a board meeting yesterday morning left with my contract bought out. It was a hell of a surprise but I've got a year to figure out what to do next. Maybe time to look for something less stressful.

Life goes on, have a good one all.

Morning all.
Sunday. Bacon & eggs, pan fries and toast on the go. Want some, come on over.
