New D23 Expo Superthread! (6/24/2019)

Anybody read the D23 expo update with five essential tips? I find this one interesting- telling folks to bring plenty of water when elsewhere we are told we can’t bring water in with us.

Pack all the essentials
We’re sure all you Expo regulars know, but for all of you first-timers out there, make sure you have your registered badge packed, comfortable shoes, a portable cell phone charger (or, if you’re a Gold Member, the Gold Member Fan Lounge is fully equipped with charging stations), and plenty of water! Oh, and of course all of your beautiful cosplay outfits and Disneybounding looks packed and ready to go!

So....all the people showing up at 5am or so are going in the main entrance and not the Katella entrance?? I don't want to go the wrong way.

My husband and I walked to the convention center to watch the big entrance at 2pm. It was interesting to watch the masses of people arrive and we got some intel. From a couple people including two security personal, like the “suits” for D23

NO CHAIRS of any kind even those that fit in backpack we saw many being discarded and sent to list and found. We were told the reason was safety and fire hazard and that the Center had been angry with what was allowed other years.

I saw some people carrying in Panda Express but didn’t see any food taken away.

Overnights and early morning is the Katella entrance

There is a picture with a pink chair not allowed and I took a picture of a yellow chair from someone’s backpack under the security table.

yep line is there, pretty long and looked like it was moving. They have cast members protecting the main convention center walkway from the hilton on down to the main entrance. We ar not allowed on that walkway right now

Any word yet on what happens to people with early StagePass reservations? Do they get to go into a special line so they don’t miss their session?

Stay safe n hydrated. No concrete for us. I did not spend all that money on flight, hotel, transport and tickets to spend all day and night on concrete. Glad they are streaming. Show floor it will be I suppose.

This was the latest answer from DLR Accessibility Services regarding my questions about bringing in food to Expo:

We have let the teams handling bag check know that we have multiple guests with specific dietary needs bringing their own food. They may ask simple questions about the food items, please be prepared to articulate why you need to be bringing the items with you.

Thanks for sharing! I heard back that I could bring it for medical reasons, but they didn’t not mention that they had discussed it with bag check. I do have the email from Disney Accessibility and a doctors note in case I have to argue it, but that makes me feel better!

Now the water...I asked for more info on that and they just said the water fountains are “in the convention center. I have no clue where they are or what they plan to do for people who are outside.

I keep checking. No clue yet. Maybe they will build Marvel Universe? Avengers assemble is the theme this week...Though I had emailed them once about DisneyPlanes ie having their own airline? Hurray! That would be fun.

Ok so just to be clear for the millionth time the patella entrance is for people who will be overnighting and the main is for everyone else right?

Just got back from the ACC will call and it was pretty painless. The whole thing including getting my temporary gold card took less than 30 minutes. The place was locked up tighter than Fort Knox. We shall see what tomorrow brings...

So we walked over to the ACC and found out / confirmed a couple of things, and were more confused about others.

It seems like any of the "early entry" queues will be at the north entrance (on Kaletta). There will be different queues for show floor and stage pass and maybe other stuff. What I could NOT get a straight answer about was whether they would actually let people with stage passes for Legends would be let into the building before 9 AM on not. They were letting folks in through this entrance to go to will call or overnight. You could also pick up your program and lanyard and bag ahead of time.

We then went over to the East Entrance (Main entrance?) and person seemed to know a little more. They said there would be three entrances open for the 9 AM open (North, East and South (?) ) but only the North entrance will get you in early. A change from previous years, at least at the East Entrance - Security has been move back from the actual building to the drive-up circle well away from the building. The security man there said they will be doing the security screening further back so that they can get everyone through security in advance of 9 AM. So at least that seems to be a positive change.

My understanding from others and D23s info is Katella/North Entrance. Then let them know you are stagepass and someone will direct you to the holding areas.

It seems a bit low profile to hold off on an announcement like that, but I was surprised at how wild the speculation was getting- the panel at D23 for it is at Stage 28, so there was no way it was going to be something huge.
