Housekeeping on DVC is the deal breaker

The no housekeeping is the biggest downside of DVC for me. That said, it isn't that big of a deal and we have gotten used to it. For me, I would rather deal with no housekeeping than the endless cycle of searching for discounted WDW rooms. One of the reasons I look forward to our AKL CL DVC trips is the daily housekeeping though.

I'm someone who doesn't want to even see house keeping unless I ask for it. Usually book grand villas for 12 days at a time and tell them which days I want housekeeping during that time ,bearing in mind what is allowed without paying extra. Now they have the larger safes I'm not as paranoid about people coming into the room but lost over $11000 worth of electronics in 2011 due to someone accessing room during the short time we went to eat. I find it relatively easy to keep the room clean with a little bit of effort so only housekeeping I would ever complain about is if the room was dirty when I arrived. Luckily that has never happened to me in the 30 plus visits I have had. It is a timeshare and you don't expect daily cleaning . I have always set the schedule to get what I need and have even paid extra if it was above normal requirements. so far no complaints.

I hope this was a typo. As a member for 25+ years, we have never had anything taken from our units.

We actually prefer having less housekeeping. No matter what hotel/resort we stay at, (DVC, Disney or non-Disney) we decline housekeeping. If we need fresh towels, we pick them up at the front desk or have them brought to our room. If the trash is full, we empty it ourselves. For us, it's just easier than having to worry about being out of the room for a cleaning, scheduling a cleaning around our schedule or walking in on housekeeping when we get back to the room.

If it's not a typo, I'm wondering what type of electronics could possibly cost that much and fit into a hotel room. A pretty awesome computer? Secret government technology? It would be a cool story to share, other than the fact that it probably is opening up old wounds of actual trauma.

At OKW they have those nice enclosed areas to put your trash in to get it out of your room. I will confirm that trash removal was spotty when we were OKW last month for 5 days. Trash removed 1st day, not the second. Towels and trash the 3rd nothing on 4th or 5th. We spoke with the CM who brought the towels and she was very nice. When we bought we knew that they don’t remove the trash daily. The CM said for longer stays you can set the days you want stuff done, like towels and full cleaning. It sounds like the OP should have made a phone call if they were not happy. Sorry that it was a bad experience for you, but for the most part if you say something to someone, they try to make things right. And sometimes they give you extra fast passes for your inconvenience.

I don't know how to react to the OP's comments TBH. Paying a little more than moderates and getting an almost Deluxe? So what you are saying is that it's just a tad above a mod....Seriously? And not quite a deluxe? But you do realize that you stayed at only 1 DVC resort. & Obviously it's the oldest one that we have....I know you can't compare the size of the room to any mod, because OKW blows them away with sheer size...Also many other DVC resorts due have plenty of amenities....You just have to try a different one... to your liking.
If you do decide that you don't want to rent or buy after all that, then what can I say but Thank you, ..... For freeing up another room for me to possibly grab..

We rented timeshares in other locations before we bought and we received so much less than DVC offers that we are thrilled with what they provide. If it bothers someone that much, they can simply pay for the extra service from the savings on the room.

I have a question for all the experts here! We are booking direct through Disney (cash - not through points) a THV for nine nights. We have stayed booked direct at BCV in the past (cash through Disney) and had everyday housekeeping. I want to make sure we will get the same thing at TBV - everyday housekeeping - which, if I understand correctly we should, since we are booking direct with cash? Can anyone confirm this for me? Housekeeping on a vacation is important to me.

Cash bookings get daily housekeeping regardless of where you are staying.

The lack of housekeeping can be a downside for many. Others are fine with it. Not having housekeeping is industry standard for timeshares. If DVC had daily housekeeping, the cost of it woud be included in annual dues and that would be a significant additon to annual dues. You can order daily housekeeping (just call housekeeping when there) for any one or more days that you are there but it costs extra. The one thing I definitely saw wrong with the OP's stay is being told there is no housecleaning past day 8 when you are there 13 days (assuming that means 12 nights). The schedule for stays of 12 nights is to have full housecleaning on day 4 (and to get to four you count day of arrival), trash and towel on day 8 and then full cleaning on day 12 (in OP's case the day before leaving). Moreover, that schedule should be maintained even if the original reservations were multiple and none was for more than 7 nights. Once those reservations are linked or merged so you do not have to change rooms, housekeeping is supposed to treat it as one continuous stay (I have actually confirmed that before with DVC).

Note, if what you want is just an extra day of full housekeeping, be aware that the price of it is half the usual price if you order full housekeeping on the day there is supposed to be trash and towel, i.e., they deduct the value of trash and towel service (we actually do that often for long stays).

Directly through Disney? I was under the impression housekeeping was included for those, hence the super high prices.

It is daily when booked directly thru Disney.

If a member takes advantage of the member cash rate by booking thru DVC directly then it follows the same schedule as if you you had booked on points.

This is a pro-tip! I've been on this board for 5 years and I still learn new tricks. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the tip! I'll be sure to use it now.

We have are happy with the DVvC housekeeping .
When we bought we knew the deal.
And prefer it.
I have no issue keeping the room clean .if we have a lot of trash I take it to the garbage area.no issue.

On a few occasions we needed towels other than on day scheduled (kids spill things) and simply asked and there was no problem.

Which are not timeshares.
And that's exactly what I bought into, a timeshare. I take out my own trash every day during my stay, no matter if DVC or not. I make my own bed. On the 4th day, for the last 19 years, we've gotten the full clean no matter where we were (OKW, AKV, BLT, SSR). I bring my own beach towels because I like longer ones and I wash those along with the villa towels if need be. Frankly, I don't want or need anyone coming in during our stay. Only once have I gotten a villa that wasn't cleaned, I marched right back down to the front desk, went to dinner with assurances it would be taken care of when we returned and it was. I prefer a one or two bedroom villa to a hotel room (because I like to do a bit of cooking along with my ADR's). DVC works for me, good that you found out before purchasing that it's not for you.

I agree that housekeeping isn't something I'd want to vacation without. Even once every 4 days wouldn't cut it for me.

Instead of renting points, I use a travel agency that offers lower rates on deluxe resorts than you can get directly from Disney. Works for us & we get daily housekeeping.

Can you PM the name of this travel agency, I know most likly not allowed top post it here.
