According to the Walt Disney World website, Blizzard Beach will be closed for its annual rehab from 10/23 through 12/24/16.

Yup, at just about $600 we're going to have to pass. I'm waiting on my sons schedule to be finalized and if there is a Military discount, we might change to November and do the Christmas party.

We arrive mid afternoon on a Saturday so our plan is to go to the Chip and Dale sing along at Fort Wilderness in the evening, but was wondering about possible going to check out the Boardwalk prior to that. I'm just wondering the logistics of transportation. We are staying at the All Star Movie. Has anyone ever done this? Any advice?

There aren't buses that go from resort to resort. It's going to be a lot of transferring and dependence on Disney transportation and can likely take HOURS. Also, FW has it's own internal bus system you'll need to navigate. Didn't realize that our first trip and I wish it was something I knew beforehand. The only way I'd do these on the same day is if I had an ADR at either BW or FW and nothing else planned. :)
 
Got our tickets for MNSSHP for 10/6. Its our third time going and I absolutely love it!!! There is nothing like Halloween at WDW. :love:

Your quickest option would be to take a cab between these locations. All Star Movies and Fort Wilderness are on opposite ends of the Walt Disney World property. In order to get to the Boardwalk, you could take a bus from Movies to the Studios then transfer over to the water taxi or walk. From the Boardwalk to Fort Wilderness, the quickest route using WDW transportation would be to take a bus from Boardwalk to the Magic Kingdom then boat over to FW. As the previous poster said, these transfers will take up a lot of time using the WDW transportation system.

oh wow, didn't realize it would be that difficult. There are 11 of us, 2 wheelchairs and a stroller so this could be more than we bargained for. May have to find something else to do that night!! thank you so much for the information
 
Does anyone know if it would be better to rent a wheelchair from the parks or one of the companies that delivers? My daughter is having scoliosis spine fusion June 2 and trying to plan when she'll be almost 5 months post op.

I'm sure folks with more experience will chime in but if it is anything like Disneyland, you rent the wheelchairs and strollers right outside the park. Meaning you'll have to GET to the park without one. If you would prefer to have the option of the wheelchair for additional support during the journeys to and from the park and don't want to risk them running out, I would probably just rent from an outside company. That also gives you the flexibility of having something readily available to explore the resorts and DS/DTD. I hope her surgery goes smoothly!

Definitely rent from an outside company and have it delivered to your resort. They will also pick it up at the end of your stay. It is SO much easier and cheaper than renting at the parks. It is also a huge timer saver because you won't have to stand in that long line after you get to the parks. This is the company we have used in the past: https://www.buenavistascooters.com/ We finally broke down and bought a transfer wheelchair for my mom at Walgreen for about $120. It packs up very small and we have saved a ton of money not having to rent anymore.

My son was 40" at his checkup in December and he's currently 43 1/2". I'm hoping he hits the magic 44" so he can ride Space Mountain. :woohoo:
 
I does make for a totally different experience when they are tall enough to ride. So exciting!!! My littlest one is now tall enough for Everest. It will be a big adventure for us!!!
