TIPS

In 2004 my family will be enjoying our 9th MNSSHP.On my various times I've traveled with a toddler,a Senior citizen in an EVC,a large group, just me and my son, Erich,to now with my DH,Joe,and my DSS,Jonathan. So I've learned a few things along the way that I'd like to share with my fellow DISers!

pumpking.gif
Baloo's Top Ten Tips
pumpking.gif

1.Except for HALLOWEEN NIGHT do not worry about crowds at MNSSHP.There are a limited amount of tickets sold for this event.Disney is very closed mouth about the actual attendance but the rides are very doable.Fantasyland gets a little crowded earlier in the evening but thins out as the night goes on and little ones wear out! I've never waited more than 10 mins in a ride line on a party night. The Mts are practically WALK ONS! We've ridden Splash Mt 3 times in a row without leaving our log!

2.The second parade is less crowded.

3.The best trick or treating is in Toontown!

4.Catch some of the bands that perform throughout the MK lands during the night. And don't be shy to get up and shake, shake shake your bones like a skinny old skeleton or howl like a werewolf!!

5.Try and see "the special guest" that takes over Tinkers Bell's flight before the fireworks begins. The BEST viewing area is on the bridge to Tomorrowland.

6. In Liberty Square in front of the Liberty Bell about 10 min.s before the parade begins "Mr. Knickerbocker" tells the story of the Headless Horseman. When he finishes his tale, the Headless Horseman begins his gallop through the MK. When the Horseman has ridden the entire parade route, the parade begins!

7. Don't feel silly if you're a grown up and want to dress up! Wearing a costume, is part of the Halloween fun!

8. Make sure your costumes are COMFORTABLE and EASY to get around in.You'll be getting on and off rides and do not want anything that is cumbersome.

9.Take time to really LOOK at all the wonderful Halloween decorations throughout the MK.Giant spiders crawling atop of buildings.Cinderella's Coach surrounded by what is was before the Fairy Godmother cast her spell.Corn stalks and jack o'lanterns and over sized treat bags just to name a few!

10.My biggest tip is the day of the party have a light schedule, take a nap or have some "down time" the afternoon of the party! I can't stress this enough ,especially if you have little ones or Seniors traveling with you! Erich (Jon wasn't able to go) was 10 last year and we still did this.Even if he didn't actually sleep he watched t.v. and rested...Joe and I slept! LOL! You want to be able to stay as late as possible because the later it gets the more the crowd thins out.It seems alot of people start exiting after the fireworks which is shortly after the first parade.

Have a SPOOKTACULAR good time at MNSSHP 2004!!!

Now how LONG is it until Oct.?!?!?!?
bgbiggrin.gif

So you've got your 2004 MNSSHP tickets, your PS,your hotel ,your "what to do" list while at WDW.Now it's time to think about HALLOWEEN COSTUMES!

ghosta.gif

It doesn't matter if your 8mths or 80 years old...single,Mommy and Daddy, teens, empty nesters...small,meduim or large!!! Halloween at WDW is a time to dress up and "feel" like a kid again! Let you imagination run wild...those folks will never see you again anyway!!
pumpking.gif

Here's Disney's "official" guidlines for costumes at MNSSHP:

They should not interfere with their ability to board and unboard attractions and WDW transportation system..

Do not drag on the ground.

Do not contain sharp or pointed objects or material that may accidentally strike another guest.

Be offensive to other guest.

Should not contain any weapon(s) which resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.

About the last one....when Erich was a pirate he had a flexible rubber pirate knife with a skull on the end. When the boys were Ninja Turtle's one had plastic swords strapped to his back and the other the little plastic daggers in his belt.We had NO PROBLEMS either time with these props.I've seen light sabers as props too.

Costume Tips

Make sure the costume is COMFORTABLE and EASY to get around in.You'll be getting on and off rides and do not want anything that is cumbersome.

If your little girl is going to be a Princess or something quite lovely... I know she looks adorable in those glass slippers but bring sneakers or some other comfortable shoe for her to wear.I've seen little ones dragging around crying about their feet hurting because they're in those plastic dress up shoes which are killing them!

I also suggest something in a light weight fabric. Those of us that are accustom to Halloweens up North are use to Trick or Treating in something warm.I grew up in Indiana and it was always cold and/or raining when I was a Trick or Treater! The costumes that are sold through the Disney catalog, like Tigger or Pooh, the jump suit FUR type ones, those are really TOO HEAVY for a Halloween in Florida! The most we've ever needed at MNSSHP is a light jacket or sweatshirt.

I make my boys costumes.A ball cap and craft foam or felt can be turned into all sorts of creatures faces! Let's see the costumes I can remember... Erich has been Mickey,a pirate ,a t-rex,a turtle,a triceratops,an Ewok.Jonathan and Erich were Teenage Ninja Turtles,Pokemons and Erich was a praying Mantis last year.Jon couldn't attend :( I make the costumes from shorts and t-shirts.Then I have a sweatshirt and sweatpants that are the same color that they can wear over the shorts and under the shirt if the night is chilly.Joe and I have worn Disney themed t-shirts and light jacket if it's gotten chilly.

If you feel like you're too old or just don't want to dress in costume for MNSSHP I have great luck the last few years finding Disney themed Halloween t-shirts in my local Kmart,Walmart and Target. At WDW I have seen commemorative t-shirts for the MNSSHP selling for about $20.

You can print out Halloween pictures from the web and iron them on a t-shirt.

scull.gif
Quick, easy to pack costumes.
scull.gif

101 Dalmations...White shorts/pants and t-shirts and go to town with spots! Ears could be made out of felt or craft foam on ball caps (esp for the guys) or maybe headbands for the ladies.

Mickey Mouse Club...Red pants, mouse ears,t-shirts with each ones name on it.:earsboy::earsgirl:

Baseball players...Your favorite team's jersey/t-shirt and a ball cap, shorts or sweats and sneakers.

Hippies...Tye dyed shirt, round framed glasses, beads, peace sign jewlery, jeans or a long skirt and sandals.

Pirate... Easy and light weight too.Black shorts or capris, striped shirt, bandana,an eye patch,a hoop earring and there ya go....arrrrrrrrrrgh matey!pirate:

Please,if you could, start posting your MNSSHP questions, tips, costume ideas... whatever you'd like to ask/share about the parties under this thread. We had a big MNSSHP Central thread like this last year that went quite well!!!

Thanks!

This is cool Baloo! Makes it much more exciting and efficient now to keep mnnshp info in one place. Now after all the hectic PS'ing and ticket-buying (for those of us who jumped on it this weekend!) we can think about other details! Yea!!:bounce:

Is it possible to provide links for each date so that members do not have to search through, what i know wll become a very long thread, to find others who are attending on the same night.

It would be very cool to be able to meet and take a pic to post back on the boards.

Penny

Baloo,
Thank you for all of the wonderful information regarding MNSSHP 2004!!!

We will be attending our first dinner at LTT and MNSSHP on Oct. 26th!!! The information on this board has been invaluable for planning our first trip down during the month of October (we've always gone in late August before now)

Thank you again for all of your workpirate:

Wow, thanks so much! This is our first trip ever and I love reading all these tips. We'll be there Halloween night, how long are the waits typically?

The opportunity to make PS at Liberty Tree Tavern is a great reason to buy early. Believe me, on the nights of the party if you don't have PS at Liberty Tree long before your trip, you'll be out of luck.

So, the 24th at 5:05 is ours! Woo--hoo!

MNSSHP is so great! Hopefully we will be able to go this year, we went last year and it was a blast! Hope to see you all there!!

hi baloo:wave:

a very big thank you to you for this information::yes::
this will be our firs ttime doing this and we really can't wait:hyper:

Halloween Night can be relatively crowded. Even then, the longest we waited was for Buzz Lightyear and that was about 35 minutes. A few suggestions-get a good spot for the parade early because the Headless Horseman is quite ahead of the rest of the parade. He goes through pretty quick, too. We normally shoot for the Castle area because we watch the show, too. Don't miss the firewords. Either get your picture early, or wait to near the end of the night--lines for that can get long. BTMR area hands out the best candy!

I've heard that making a PS for LTT is the best bet for the night of the party .. but how about Crystal Palace? We are making a PS for around 5-5:30 but all this talk about LTT is making me wonder if I shouldn't change it.
How is the food at LTT anyway?(never been)

We've eaten at both on party nights. The differences for MNSSHP and in general are:

LTT characters dress up in costumes for MNSSHP

CP they do not

LTT you can book now

CP you cannot until 90 days out (and the Castle and Tony's too)

LTT is a pre-plated meal (Turkey, Stoffer's mac and cheese, salad etc...)

CP is buffet-style.

The other difference is location in the park.

Although seeing the characters dressed up is neat, I didn't mind my meals at CP at all! I actually prefer CP's food better but like LTT for the characters and the location. I'd eat again in either in a heartbeat.

thank you beattyfamily... gosh I'm so excited.. Like a Kid again.
Another question, there was a thread about costumes and whether to wear one or not .. We are going halloween night so all three of us adults will be wearing costumes...
Are we able to bring costumes into the park to change into or has anyone had a bad experience with this and would suggest just wearing them(they aren't elaborate costumes that we have planned.. yes we have already planned them but I would rather not 'ruin' them riding any of the water rides(SPLASH MOUNTAIN woohooo) before the party)

For those of you who have been to MNSSHP, do you think it would be worth going twice (with a 3 year old)? We don't get to go until next year (wish it was this year!), but we will be there (DD and I) for 8-10 days and based on last year and this year, we should be there for the first two MNSSHPs. Would it be worth it to go to both? What do you think?

For anyone who may have a hard time getting a PS at LTT. Last year we went to MNSSHP on Halloween. About 1 week after the tickets went on sale I tried to book LTT, and was already told we couldn't, that they were full!!

Anyhow, at the 90 day mark (when CP came open), all sorts of table were open at LTT. The CM on the phone said some were cancellations from guests moving to other restuarants. They also told me they hold a block of tables for the 90 day mark for guests who don't know you can make your reservations early. We had our choice of times, this was after months of being told all booked up!!! So if you can't get a PS now, be sure to try again and again. Especially at the 90 day mark. This was a great way to kick off the night!!!

Thank you so much for posting this info Baloo! We will be there on the 24th!

WOW! Lots of wonderful information...thanks Baloo.

I can't decide which date to go on, the 24th (Sunday) or the 26th (Tuesday) :confused3 I think I have some time to think about it. Doesn't look like I have to worry about tickets selling out at least for those dates.
