"If I Were Not Upon The Sea" is no more on Disney Ships

We have seen it on Princess as well as on DCL. It was all the funnier on DCL given the very clean image of CM's. All part of the humor!

We loved the skit, and are disappointed that DCL has chosen to end it. It was just a bit of silly fun! Not very risqué, especially given tv shows today!

Match Your Mate is only done once per cruise...always has been.

Sorry, Stacey. It was done twice on our last cruise. 24AUG13 Disney Fantasy. I was surprised that it was done twice. Enjoyed both times.

Sad to hear that "If I Where Not A Upon The Sea" is no more. The best was the EBPC one and I think it was because we got to know the Entertainment CM's more. Time to move onto other entertainment ideas. We played a few new things this past cruise and the names escape me right now. Frankie said they were trying out some new ideas.

Can't believe they did this! The show is performed in the ADULT AREAS, of course the content will be slightly more mature. Honestly the show would receive a PG rating. It's not that "trashy".
And yet Disney still wonders why they can't get more adult only couples onboard....

If they're going to be doing Match Your Mate twice per sailing, they'll be wondering why they aren't getting more adult singles onboard (I'm talking travelling as groups of friends; the single supplement increase showed they don't care for solo travellers). I hope the 2nd MYM is only a placeholder until they develop something new.

I also hope that Pub Night and it's infamous sketch get resurrected for the longer (12-14 night) cruises at least.

I hate PC, it's killing our world. I wish I knew which upstanding tight-assed individuals were offended by this skit so I could get myself invite to their dinner party and rip numerous big offensive farts. As an adults-only late-at-night event this should have offended no one, and if did, leave...and let live. Sad.

:goodvibes Tell us how you really feel :goodvibes :flower3:

How do you know they are upstanding? :rotfl2:

Like I said, I really enjoyed the skit and knew it was going to be the last thing we did on the last night before returning to port the next morning.

Sorry to see it go. Thankfully, I was able to get my mom to see it on our MR cruise. She got the biggest kick out of it and we laughed and laughed. :lovestruc

I agree about the night life and adult entertainment lacking on DCL lately. On our last cruise we stayed to dance after the adult late show in the Tube. There were a few others that were in their twenties. The cruise staff interacted with them and basically ignored us. I felt unwanted like I was crashing their private party. Never stayed after the show the remainder of the cruise. We left with the large exodus after the adult show.

As much as I love DCL, my kids (now 17 & 19) will no longer be traveling with us much longer. We will probably move on to other cruise lines mainly due to lack of adult activities - daytime and nighttime.

I loved this skit when I went on the Dream in 2012!! I watch the YouTube video periodically, but this makes me very sad.

Unfortunately, this thread is making me a little depressed as I'm going on my honeymoon on the Fantasy in Nov 2014. When I was on the Dream with my best friend last year, we found a good group of adults without children to hang out with late every night. But then again, it was Podcast Cruise 3.0, so we had a built in network rather than having to start from scratch.

I completely understand doing away with older shows, but it makes me nervous if the only adult "replacement" is Match Your Mate.

I was just on Magic November 20th-24th and will say the adult night life was some of the best I saw after 20 cruises, 18 as a adult, lots if people in club each night

I watched some of the you tube video, it's not that funny

Poor staff having to do that each week

I'd prefer seeing professional comedians and hypnotists

Love that skit, especially with Tisa in it .. Hilarious!

Whatever the reason for removing it, I just hope they replace it with something as funny. I like watching Match your Mate, but I'm not sure some contestants 'get it'. Their stories are bland and just not revealing. Saying that, I'd never be a contestant on it .. I would be the bland, boring one!!!

It was not on the Oct 12 Wonder... We were told that when Natalie come on board as Cruise director, since she came from the Dream and they didn't do this on the dream, that she removed it from the plan going forward. Not sure how true that was, but that is what we were told.

Will miss it, but I assume that since it has been around for a while, they must be getting tired of performing it. Just home they come up with something new.

We saw it on the Dream in January. It was hysterical especially since we had come in contact and talked a lot with the CMs in the skit. :rotfl2:

Just received this e-mail from Rebekah (our multi-response Executive Guest Correspondent) regarding the "If I Were Not Upon the Sea" skit:

12/3/13

Dear XXXX:

Thank you for your email.

We are always looking for new ways to entertain our guests, be it stage
shows, guest entertainers, new ports of call, or crew talent shows.
Currently the skit you referenced is only offered on longer cruises such
as the Trans-Atlantic and Panama Canal voyages.

I hope this information is helpful.

The larger percentage of Disney "adults" are those who bring children onboard and are probably more in their 30's and 40's.....and except for perhaps a very young 30 year old, people in this age group don't consider a roomful of 18 and 19 year olds "adult" or entertaining.
What might appeal to someone 18, 19, 20...even up to MAYBE 24...will not appeal to very many people older than that.

Seeing the crew dress in 60's costumes and try desperately to get people to dance is not fun.

I agree...I am 36.

Was it cancelled because it was offensive? Or was it because it was sophomoric? I have not been on a disney cruise yet but after looking up this skit on youtube I can say I hope it's not representative of the rest of the entertainment. I was not offended, but I was not entertained.

It does not represent the rest of the entertainment (shows in the WDT). But it's probably on the par of the Match Your Mate game kind of entertainment.

We've seen the skit on all 6 of the DCL cruises we've been on. We haven't seen it on any other cruiselines. We enjoy it.

One reason there are different activities/entertainments onboard is so there is something for everyone. Certainly not everyone will enjoy everything that's available.

We completed our fourth Disney cruise 10/19 on the Fantasy. While our daughter LOVED Vibe, my DH and I have always been a bit disappointed with the adult entertainment. My in-laws went with us on our recent cruise, and even though they are in their early 70's, they were a little bored. They have sailed NCL, and while they thoroughly enjoyed DCL, they felt that the entertainment on NCL was better. They are not gamblers, so they didn't miss having a casino. The lack of adult entertainment on DCL is one reason why we are considering RCCL.

You don't have to tell me this I wasn't saying it was 20 and 18 year olds, I was saying in 20 cruises I have been on this last cruise on the Magic actually seemed to have more night life and most were at least 23 and older, trust me night life sucks for everyone 18 and older:rotfl2:.

I have seen the crew dressed up trying to desperately get people to dance and failed.

On the November 20th-24th cruise though, the night club and bars were busy, let's just say more then 5 people for karaoke, it was packed which shocked me, because usually it's me a few others and some bartenders, that night there was no room at the bar:thumbsup2
