We started today at the hotel, and had our usual beignets. Instead of cereal Tony got us a Cheese Danish to try. I have spent my entire junk-food life avoiding cheese Danishes, thinking they sound ghastly. Well who is the idiot now?!!! They are lovely! It was like eating a cheesecake for breakfast, which can never be wrong!! We both gave breakfast 9/10.
We were at DHS this morning, and I spent the entire morning trying to talk Tony into trying Sci-Fi for lunch so we could try the oreo milkshake, and he just wouldnt give in. I couldnt understand it. . . we will find out why later! So we headed off to Grand Floridian Café for lunch as planned.
I decided to order the sandwich which I absolutely adored last year the Roast Beef Sandwich - (Balsamic Onions, Pesto Mayonnaise, Arugula Salad, and Tomatoes served on Focaccia with Marinated Cucumber Salad or Home Made Chips). Tony went for the Angus Chuck Cheeseburger - served with Marinated Cucumber Salad or French Fries, and we agreed to split them so we could try them both.
The sandwich was Ok. Nothing wrong with it, but I couldnt really work out what it was that I loved so much about it last year. It was tasty and fresh, but nothing that made me want to race back again. The fresh potato chips were lovely we both gave them 10/10! Tony gave the sandwich 7/10 and I gave it 8. The burger was really good really thick, juicy patty and lovely and fresh 9/10 from both of us!
Then the reason for Tonys refusal to go to Sci-Fi became clear . . . this arrived!!
The Cinderella castle cake!!!! It was really good and creamy! The bottom part is a cake, and the castle was hollow white chocolate. I would probably recommend the slipper slightly more as I loved the chocolate mousse that came with that, but this was really yummy as well, and a lovely surprise, bless him!
Dinner was where we always go our last night, Raglan Road. While waiting to be seated we bumped into Jane and Jim who were going to be on our cruise starting the next day it was lovely to finally meet them after chatting online for so long! I thought I recognised them from their picture, so made Tony follow them around the Raglan Road shop to see if he could hear their names!!!!!
Anyway, we got seated after about a 10 minute wait. I had been planning for a year what I was going to have. Heaven on Earth (baby back ribs in guiness and honey glaze) and Goats Town (goats cheese salad). Didnt even need to look at the menu . . . that is until our waiter announced they were out of goats cheese. Devastated is not the word. This is by far the best goats cheese dish I have had anywhere in my life, and I always look so forward to it from one year to the next. I was absolutely inconsolable. The waiter saw how upset I was and told me to come back the next night for some . . . I felt it would be a little far to swim back, but said I would consider it!
I should say service was very good all evening. He was very attentive and friendly. We booked a late-ish meal so we could see the band and dancing this was good but VERY loud we couldnt hear ourselves think to be honest. Maybe not the best place for a romantic date!
In the end I ordered the heaven on earth, and fish and chips. Tony ordered drunk chicken (whisky glazed chicken kebab) and meatballs & pasta.
The ribs were absolutely lovely. Loads of meet on them, and a lovely flavour. I could have eaten another portion quite happily! They get 10/10, and accolade of best ribs on Disney!
Tony gave his chicken dish 6/10. It was a huge portion basically two whole chicken breasts on sticks!
The soda bread came out with dipping oils - this was in muffin form this year and was lovely. It has such a deep taste and was crispy on the outside and really soft in the middle.
The fish and chips were nice . . . I just didnt really fancy them. If you want fish and chips I highly recommend them as they were lovely and fresh, but I needed me the goats cheese! They get 8/10.
Tony really enjoyed the meatballs and pasta and gave them 9/10 they were a massive portion, and very tasty according to his notes! I can't find these on the online menus, and we can't remember exactly what they were. We think they were pork meatballs, in a tomato sauce with penne pasta.
We were too stuffed for a dessert . . . :
I would definitely return here, we have never had a bad meal here yet . . . hopefully next year they will order enough goats cheese in to satisfy my needs though!!!!!!
Coming next I will do the very last day of our trip (after the cruise) which is Beaches n Cream and Earl of Sandwich (I know, again!!), before returning to the cruise!
