ABCs of Trip Reporting, Pt. 2-Life Can Be Crappy and Then You Move On (3/7)

Hot diggity!! I actually have the first really, truly free day all to myself in a very, very long time to get some writing done! Prior to this XQuisite (rare!) sunny day here in Salem, Oregon, I’ve been swamped with every manner of stressful, painful, or busy drama (see previous post). That all seems to be subsiding now, with Bek safely stashed into nursing school, all the other kids doing swimmingly in their schools, my own classwork load winding down for the term and a stormy relationship for my 18 year old daughter now ended (hallelujah!).

So, onto something truly Disney –related. What better way to spend a lazy afternoon than picking up on my TR that has been quite sadly neglected for months!! Let’s pick up from where we left off, shall we??

:goes back to re-read the last real entry and grabs a Schweppes ginger ale for a sugar boost:

Ahhh, yes we were just “ending” our day with a gorilla butt, cuz, well, that’s how I roll. And we were off to yet another show. This one involved no animals except for a pretty hilarious episode involving a horse or two… butt that’s getting ahead of myself.

Let’s start by getting photos sorted, uploaded, and edited. :goes to spend an hour or more uploading photos again because I was all confused last week and uploaded the wrong ones:

Alright, I’m back, that wasn’t long at all, was it? Now, let’s really start… with a kick-up-our-feet sort of moment. If you’ve never been to the Mother of All Porches on Property, you MUST visit this one soon! It’s over at Ft. Wilderness- Home of the Hoop-de-Doo (or View, depending on how long you’ve known me) Revue! One can’t help but instantly be completely absorbed into the relaxing, chill-axe ambiance, while rocking your cares away on The Mother of All Porches with banjo music plunking softly away and the sound of shod horse hooves clomping on the pavement nearby. It was a little slice of heaven and we took full advantage of it by closing our eyes for a bit and making quick calls home (thusly breaking every promise we had made to ourselves NOT to call home on this trip).

Eventually, Mary showed up, but not before some pretty heinous hilarity ensued. Did you expect otherwise?

Tate was ready to get in on the fun, so I started chatting with the nearby CMs manning the check-in desk for the buffet restaurant whose front door is there on The Mother of All Porches. They found it pretty funny that Tate was such a character and insisted on bringing a little Country and Western to his already pretty slick wardrobe. They rounded up a napkin to serve as a neck kerchief and Man, did he look spiffy!!! They told me to actually keep it, which I thought was mighty right nice. Now, he was ready to go do an errand for me.

DSCN0344.jpg

I handed Tate my camera and off he went to grab a photo of the tile work in the bathrooms. HUH? For those of you who have never been to the Ft. there is a piece of artwork worth taking a second look at. I dare you to not come away either very confused or shaking your head. You be the judge… Innocent cowboy art, or Brokeback all over again??

DSCN0351.jpg

That, my friends, is found in the men’s restroom adjacent to Pioneer Hall. The women’s restroom “art” is somewhat less suspect and actually rather tasteful:

DSCN0347.jpg

With the photos taken it was time to sit back and do some more relaxing. While we rocked on, the horsey rides were just about to get underway. As they pulled out from their hitchin’ post, and ambled down the walkway, one let out a monster-sized bomb- a very real danger of having live animals around. Unfortunately, it was dark, and one lady in some sandals played I Spy a little too late and plopped her pedicured tootsies in some very large poopsies. Her reaction was actually quite apt and well…. Loud. With a resounding, “Oh, S….!!” she shook off what she could and made her way to the tastefully decorated women’s restroom to clean up, leaving a large, snickering crowd behind her. Yes, I know it was yucky, but I’m sorry, her reaction just made it really funny too. Perhaps they should name the outside portion of entertainment Scoop-de-Poo!!!

Soon after that, it was time to be escorted to our table for the show. We had decided early on to splurge on Cat 1 seating, and scored a table in the 2nd “row” back. To say it was perfect would be a grand understatement. After taking our drink orders, (bottomless sangria for me, please! And I’ll spare you the pain of waiting- yes, I did get a bit tipsy, but not bad.) our waiter returned with a YUMMY salad and cornbread. It was so, so, so good!

DSCN0357.jpg

And since we’re on the subject of food (and that’s the order I uploaded my photos and because I’m lazy) let’s just roll with it and I’ll show you the rest of the booty (all ‘artwork’ from the men’s restroom aside).

Meat: every man’s dream…

DSCN0362.jpg

Beans: Everyone else’s nightmare…

DSCN0364.jpg

Tate was huuuuuuungry!!

DSCN0363.jpg

…as were my friends. And they’d kill me if they knew these particular photos were up, but hey, if you choose not to participate in the writing of said Trip Report, well then….

DSCN0365.jpg

The meal is always finished off with a grand flourish and a lot of hood-de-doola

And looks something like this:

Yes, it was THAT good

Continued in next post....

The show itself is pretty funny if you like REEEEALY corny humor. I have seen it twice; once at the early show, and this latest time at the 9:30 show. Let me just testify that the shows (at least the 2 I saw) were very, VERY different. The whole vibe changes and is simply put, ummm… more adult friendly the later it is. There was group of bachelors having a bach party 2 tables over, and WOWSERS did it get racy over there. Hilarious to be sure, but I’m glad there were very few kids around. The actors were really getting into it and had the crowd absolutely roaring!! So funny! The bottomless sangria probably helped make everything a bit funnier….

So, again, imagine and variety show with live music, stupid jokes, sing along, some TOP quality voices from the cast of 6, and crowd interaction at its best. Take a look:

At the end of the show, they choose 4 or so volunteers to play a part in a quick skit which ends up being split your gut funny:

So, was it worth the money and did we have fun???

DSCN0390.jpg

Yeah, totally. Did we get random gunk and crumbs from the napkin twirling time? Yeah, probably.

Welcome Liesa! Glad you have a spare moment in your very hectic to come back to the DIS!

Great update. That picture in the men's bathroom is about as Brokeback as it can get. Are you serious? :rotfl2: But the real question is - How exactly did you get into the men's bathroom? :rolleyes1

I've seen the early show, but did not realize the late show gets a little crazier! It was a fun show!

Great update for your return. You didn't miss a beat!

This one had me totally cracking up.

For the obvious reasons.

Nice job with the photos. (How did you get Tate to reach up that high with the camera when you sent him into the men's stable?)

And who doesn't love meat and beans? That's a match made in heaven right there.

Hey, my friend!! Thanks for the welcome "home". :goodvibes

I cannot reveal how/who really did the caper. But remember that particular bathroom and I go a long way back... :rolleyes1 :lmao::rotfl2:

Hoop-de-View, Hoop-de-View.... :rolleyes1

It's totally a "Cowboy Moment" kind of picture. Odd at best.

:rolleyes1

Beans -n- meat. I'm telling you, it's gonna be on the banquet eatin' table, my friend!!

Tate is a man of many talents.... ;)

I had a feeling that might be a factor. Combine all that with school and UGH! You my friend, cannot afford to lose an ounce. I order you to eat cheese and drink Milk Shakes with whole milk and...I'm sure I can think of something else to put needed meat on those bones.

You have been greatly missed but no excuses are needed. Life is messy and complicated and we all need to do what we need to do. It is a hard thing to find that one person who just doesn't like you. Shattering I think when it's never happened. It can make you really question who you are, even when intent is clearly good. If it makes you feel any better I could tell you the story of my first college boyfriend...whose mother was convinced I stole their silver.

Oh wait, maybe she is related to David's mom!

Oh WAIT, my first college boyfriends name IS David.

Sorry. I couldn't resist (though all of that tis true). I am so glad to hear things are healing or at least starting to clear up. Letting go is incredibly healing by itself.

Ode to Ambien:

Ambien, Oh, how I love thee!
I take you each night affectionately.
You give me each night a full night's sleep.
The doctor who prescribes it, I shall keep!!

:thumbsup2

Well, I think like most everyone else  You really did hit a major bump in the road there. I can't even imagine, but I'm glad to hear everything is really starting to look up now, Liesa. Best wishes to you and your family with all your present ventures and future ones! :)

Oooo... Hoop-De-Doo looks like a ton of fun and the food just as delicious! I may have to make note of that for my next trip! LOL @ the bathroom pictures, but way to pick the worst tile pictures for the guys bathroom... not right... Well, glad to hear you ended off your day nicely :)

THANKS!! I couldn't find it anywhere!!!

Holy moly! I give you a little bomb and now I'm 3 pages behind again:scared1: Time to catch up again.

Welcome back! I'm sorry to here life has been so intense for you. Know that you have been missed. Your stories are a joy to read and help break up the day in my routine life.

Yay, I loved this update! I was impressed that you remembered to take pictures of the food at Hoop de Doo. I, um, forgot. :sad2:

That picture in the men's room is the durndest thing. I didn't even know about it ahead of time and still took a picture of it.....it's just really odd!

Big hugs to you and Bekka for all that you guys have had to go through these last few months. Hopefully things have now settled down.

Loved the Hoop de Revue when we went in May 2009!! That bottomless Sangria does get to you!! lol Let's just say I had an upset stomach the next day and my mom told my dad I must have ate too many strawberries!! lol Mind you I was a 31 on that trip but my dad still thinks of me as his little girl!! Glad to see you guys were smiling and enjoying the show!

Big Hugs, I wondered where you had disappeared to. Glad things have gotten/are getting better.

Great update:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 too funny on many levels

Liesa!!!!! Welcome back - I thought I posted or PMed you or something.... Maybe the DIS was acting up and prevented me from finishing my thought. Too many distractions. :rolleyes1 ETA I remember now- FB. duh

So sorry to hear Bek has a broken heart. I hope she uses this as a learning experience and grows from this.
Sorry this has been so hard on you- eat something or you will blow away. Take care girl.

Just how did you get that picture??? :lmao: Note to self ... go to the late HDD show. :thumbsup2

Liesa, thank you for telling us what has been going on. I know I seen you posting on FB but I didn't know all this was happening. :grouphug: I'm glad that you are feeling better and I do hope to see you around here a bit more, when you have time of course. :goodvibes:goodvibes

As far as your update...

We had such a great time at Hoop. I was trying to talk our friends into eating there but it is looking more and more like that isn't going to happen. It doesn't help that Melody doesn't want to eat there either. Oh well. It looks like you ladies were having a grand ol' time.. and that Tate.. lemme tell ya... he is a party animal!

One thing I didn't like was the frozen strawberries. Would cutting up some fresh berries be too much to ask? LOL

Glad to have you back! :)

Welcome back Liesa !! Enjoyed the latest update as usual !!Must say Tate looked very spiffy in his napkins !!!I bet 2 ladies will not be happy with a certain pix !!:rotfl2:

Liesa, I am so sorry to hear that you had such a hard time!! I noticed your absence from the DIS, but thought it was due to you being involved in community life (like English country dancing ;)) now that you are back home in the US where you do have a community of friends around you! I had no idea that you were having such a horrible time! I do hope that you will continue to feel better!! And I hope that Bek will get over this young man.

I had a feeling that might be a factor. Combine all that with school and UGH! You my friend, cannot afford to lose an ounce. I order you to eat cheese and drink Milk Shakes with whole milk and...I'm sure I can think of something else to put needed meat on those bones.

I would recommend cooking with lots of olive oíl! :goodvibes

But I agree with Cynthia and the others! Make sure that you get back to a healthy weight!!

Ummmm... ok, I'm crying now. :rolleyes1 You are such a special friend in my life, you know.

I do know, and I think you know you are just as precious to me. :lovestruc

I do know it's not all for loss. Bek has learned so much through all of this and now knows that although relationships that are more than "dating" just for fun are a lot of hard work, they are NEVER meant to be THAT much hard work. :sad2:

AMEN! A relationship is never meant to be that much work, especially at the beginning. It's supposed to be all about the lovie dovie stuff and having moon eyes for one another. :goodvibes Bek deserves that, at the very least! :lovestruc

Yes, I am eating again. And that feels SO good. Actually, I had wanted to lose a good 10 pounds anyway, but I don't recommend the stress-yourself-into-starvation method. It's not as easy as just walking away from the fridge.

I remember you wanting to lose a little, but being the tiny framed person that you are, any more than a little and you'll blow away! :goodvibes And you are are right, doing it through starving from stress is the worst way to lose it. Through MAJOR stress (in the past) I've lost 50 lbs. in less than three months that way, the first 12 were in less than a week. :sad2: So I totally understand what you were going through in that respect. Drink your beautiful teas and coffee and enjoy your day infront of your beautiful healing river while you're doing it and be sure to eat every couple of hours through out the day, get that metabolism back into shape and working for you again. :goodvibes

This is powerful stuff: "but there has to be a mom around in order for her to accomplish the miracles she and God set out to do together."
Beautifully put, Camille! It's a partnership- one with both privilege and GREAT responsibility. I do not take it lightly!! Thanks for the reminder. :goodvibes

Co-laboring in partnership with the Lord is a beautiful and wonderful thing that most people don't realize they have the pleasure of doing with God. You my friend have known this for a very long time, most Mama's do. :lovestruc But, we Mama's sometimes forget we aren't to do it in our own power. It's always through His mighty hands and strength that we must walk in, rest in and trust in, while going through the process. Did you see that rest part? :goodvibes Isn't that amazing?!? We can do it all while resting in HIM!! :woohoo: Leading you by still waters isn't something that we are to take lightly either, especially when He provides that time....He's providing you that time, Ms. Liesa. :woohoo: He literally placed you by the water....pretty cool how all that comes together to work in your favor! No more doing it in Liesa power, it's time for leaning into Him and resting in Him. :goodvibes
I love you my beautiful friend, and I'm so proud of you.

Hi Liesa, welcome back! I'm sorry for everything you had to go through and also very happy that you are on the Disboards again!

I had a feeling that might be a factor. Combine all that with school and UGH! You my friend, cannot afford to lose an ounce. I order you to eat cheese and drink Milk Shakes with whole milk and...I'm sure I can think of something else to put needed meat on those bones.

I like all those options!! Finding time to crank any of them out is tough with so much to get done these days.... I think I need a trip to Disney with Free Dining.... :rolleyes1

You have been greatly missed but no excuses are needed. Life is messy and complicated and we all need to do what we need to do. It is a hard thing to find that one person who just doesn't like you. :thumbsup2

Yeah, I guess I am just talented that way to not actually seek out this one person, and end up having us "find" each other anyway.

She actually accused you of stealing her SILVER??!! WHOA. that's crazy!

And yes, although I am healing, there was a LONG, painful time of soul searching that had to happen. In the end, refinement is always a good thing.
