Vaccines now mandatory 12 and up for Disney cruises

My gut instincts are that Disney is grateful to the Bahamas for requiring vaccines.
That way Disney can require vaccines (which really, they should have in the beginning) without being "the bad guy".

"The Bahamas made me do it."
Precisely. The cruise lines welcome this.

Feds may not be able to mandate for states, but they most likely can for cruises (e.g., the FMC probably can do so). This regulation would probably preempt any contradictory state laws like Florida's law.
Complicated law that involves both fed and state inherent and statutory authority.

Thanks. Apparently vaccines are different than other laws. We toured Alcatraz National Park in 2019 and in the briefing when you get off the boat the U.S. Park Ranger made a point of mentioning that "marijuana is legal in California, but as a Federal Park, you can still go to prison if we find you with it here"
You are correct as that property is federal property within the state boundaries. Within that fed property, federal law governs. Step outside the federal property, state law (in general) governs. So if you were going to light up, wait until the Alcatraz tour is finished!!!!!

Just my opinion, but I think Disneyland will be next.
Yes, I think that is possible and that vaccine requirements for those 12 and up really won't matter because of the illnesses in other places that will force them to reconsider sailing for the time being.

In the UK children age 12 and over have been approved for the vaccine, but it only currently being offered to those that are CEV or live with someone who is. No idea when this will change.
So that leaves us in the crappy position of a WDW holiday booked for December we aren't sure we'll be allowed to fly in for, plus an Alaska cruise booked for next August we won't be able to take if things stay the same as our daughter will be 13 by then.
Don’t despair. WDW is not requiring vaccines and a lot can change by next August. Things are changing here week to week.

So basically, if you have a child that turns 12 around the time of the cruise, you are out of luck! All the policies state 12 year olds need to be vaccinated, but it takes at least 5 weeks to get vaccinated AFTER your turn 12.

None of the policies seem to address this issue.

I expected this news, but I'm very surprised that they didn't take this opportunity to add "testing for all" to their protocols.
Are they the only cruise line not testing vaccinated people for covid?

I'm still confused how Disney can require proof of vaccination without violating Florida law. I understand NCL has a lawsuit, but it only applies to them
While it technically only applies to NCL, the judge essentially ruled that, in the case of cruise ships, Florida’s ban on vaccination requirements was a threat to public health and safety and thus unconstitutional. While no other lines are named in the lawsuit, it sets a very strong precedent for any cruise lines sailing out of Florida to bypass the Florida law.

Unfortunately this is a fringe type situation that is going to happen to a very small percentage of people. You have to have an 11 year old that is going to be turning 12 within say 6 weeks of the cruise date compared to every other age group that is not affected. Yes it really sucks for those few that it will happen to. Those people will have to change the date of their cruise (which I'm sure that most of us have done multiple times already) or request a refund. All of the policies address this issue. They state that unvaccinated children 12 and up cannot cruise. It is the policy, it is just not the policy a very small affected percentage wish to hear.

When 5-11 are approved I wonder if there will be a grace period for them to have a chance to get vaccinated. I would think so but id not that’s a lot of Thanksgiving and Christmas cruises that get impacted (assuming the order extends past 11/1).

And every single rule or law that is enacted with age restrictions catches some people in a similar way.

In this case, the solution is easy (though maybe not painless). Take the no penalty rebooking to a different date.

I think that this is one of those odd cases. Is Disney requiring vaccinations or is a foreign country requiring vaccinations? In the email it says that the Bahamas government is requiring it. For all we know this is a closed door deal where FL says we are not going to back down on this, but we are also not going to be looking for it when a foreign government is the one requiring it. Also there is the whole NCL thing and I'm sure that has played greatly into this decision as well.

If I have a 5-11 YO and a cruise scheduled I would get them an appointment ASAP when those become avail. Where I live they are doing walk ins right now, 12+ of course.

Yes, it's the Bahamas requiring that any one onboard cruise ships 12+ must be fully vaccinated for the ship to be able to port there.

DCL, and all other cruise lines stopping in the Bahamas, are under this restriction.
