New BOG Dinner Menu

This is the one place that DD9 (10 by trip) wants to eat at again. They still have steak so that's okay. But appetizers for me just seem Is escargot or charred octopus slimy? I might be able to get the kid to try some, she's less picky than me lol

If the escargot is covered with enough of a butter/garlic sauce, that's all you will taste and it is delicious!!!

Really? https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/macaron
Definition of macaron
: a light, often brightly colored sandwich cookie consisting of two rounded disks made from a batter of egg whites, sugar, and almond flour surrounding a sweet filling (as of ganache, buttercream, or jam)
  • Note that we speak here of the Parisian macaron, two airy almond meringue cookies pressed around a creamy filling—not those tiny bombs of shredded coconut that, on our shores, answer to the name "macaroon."

Yeah, pretty sure a Macron is a president of France :-)

Isn't he president of France? Not a dessert?

Yep! I think it's interesting a spell check would have the current President of France instead of a trendy little French cookie though.

I'm kind of side-eyeing that glob of chocolate on the child's dessert plate. Assuming the adult's chocolates are the same (and I can't imagine the ganache filling would be at least, considering the Grand Marnier), I was imagining something more like the ganaches from the Ganachery at Disney Springs, although I suppose it could be a true chocolate truffle and just be ganache with a thin casing of dark chocolate rolled in cocoa powder? It has more of the shape of a truffle but it doesn't have the matte look of cocoa powder.

I tasted one on a Carnival Cruise during my honeymoon. Definitely slimy lol. I decided if I try it again it won't be till I get to Paris. Which God willing will be Next summer.

They were probably thinking about the vast majority of the population who do not have food allergies and are not vegan or vegetarian :confused3

:D LOL, ok, you got me there. Of course you're right. I guess my thoughts were more along the lines that, of all the most common accommodations that people may need, this dessert trio doesn't tick any of the boxes. I mean, how hard should it be to make a dessert vegetarian? (Disclaimer: I'm taking it on faith that the PP who mentioned gelatin in the grey stuff is correct.) Or maybe if you replace the macaron, you make the dessert safe for tree nut allergies and gluten-free. Something like that. Especially since it's a prix fixe menu that does have appetizer and entree options that meet many of these needs.

I hated the new menu. Even with a seafood dish that menu isn't that interesting. I guess it's bye-bye to BoG.

You expected the menu for Be Our Guest to be interesting?
I expected them not to throw all the fish scraps in a pot and call it stew but give it a French name to make it fancy. Or to not make the only vegetarian dish pasta based.

I agree, I imagine is a topping to add a bit of crunch/topping/flavor

There's a dish at Tiffins that I tried in June with a pork belly upgrade that was magnificent:

Crispy Corn Cake
Chermoula-infused Vegetables, Chakalaka, Corn Emulsion. Add Berkshire Pork Belly
$29.00

I think some of the allergy concerns are overblown. If people with moderate peanut allergy can be accommodated at 'Ohana, I see no reason to believe most allergies won't be workable at BOG.

Every menu at every eatery does not have to accommodate every taste. Disney has many options. And even amongst those with dietary restriction, people who can't handle airborne peanut know to skip 'Ohana; people with hypersensitivity to shellfish avoid Cape May, etc.

Exactly!

I don’t like that McDonalds mixes their burger meat with a percentage of grubs as filler. My expectation isn’t that they cater to my sense of normalcy in dietary guidelines and they replace their menu. I simply eat elsewhere. It is my choice.

I am also allergic to shellfish. So I don’t eat at Red Lobster.

So um...am I the only one excited to try this?! There's no way I'm taking my 5-year old who barely eats anything, but I might take my 2-year old foodie - how does that usually work when a kid is under 3? I assume if I order him his own meal I'll pay the set kids price, or can he share my food?

Under 3 should be allowed to share.

I'll be on the lookout for reports from veg*n diners, for sure!

And those desserts.... the more I think about it, the more I wonder what they were thinking. Tree nuts, eggs, dairy, gelatin, oh my! Vegetarians, vegans, and people with many of the most common allergies will have problems with it. And that doesn't even count "regular" eaters who simply may not like one or more of the elements of the dessert.
I'm going to call them and ask if/what I'd be able to eat. I prefer to eat vegan, but I'll eat dairy if there aren't other options. I'll report back.

To my knowledge, macarons are gluten free. I always ask first, but they typically are.

I should have googled a recipe before posting that. ;) I know there's flour in them, and I assumed wheat flour. Are they usually made with almond flour?
