Magic Band "NEW KIND" -Update: Post #70-

I'm not a fan of MBs, and although I've not seen this new kind of MB I don't believe I like it either. I just don't want to be tracked when I move around WDW. So for that reason, I just get a card key without the RFID antennae. It fits in my pocket, and is much faster to tap at the turnstyles. I'm happy. I really hope I will be able to continue using a card when we go back.

I really don't care if the mouse knows where I'm going while in Disney World. Why does anyone? Oh no, Disney knows that I had a churro and then rode 7DMT, but...but...my privacy!!!

But you forget , then the Mouse can send all the people to the attraction your visiting next and make you wait more!!!

Its a nefarious plan!

Right?!?! Magic Band aside, you're still on multiple cameras almost every moment you're on property, and they undoubtedly use facial recognition software. They know where you're going and what you're doing before you even know.

OH no, that means the mouse saw my Grandbabies feeding the ducks, in spite of the signs. Well, okay, in front of the signs. But in their defense, they can't read yet, we feed ducks at home and they move so quick it's sometimes hard to stop them ( the littles, not the ducks). I'm sorry and we'll try harder in the future! :)

I'd be fine with buying a custom band and replacing this every time. Being once a year of every other year travelers, buying custom bands now doesn't make much sense no matter how much I want one.

I don't like the possibility of standing behind the person digging through pockets or purse trying to find there little Magic Mickey Disc.

I would be surprised if they, instead of handing out magic bands, handed out just the disc. That wouldn't be any better than a key card. In fact, it would be worse. At least the key card fit in your wallet.

I would think there would be some sort of default bracelet or lanyard or something wearable.

That was always my thought...

Well that and they already could. Just because you used your room key instead doesn't mean they didn't know that you bought a churro. If you rode 7DMT standby they might not know but if you did it with a FP they know you had a fastpass you stuck your room key in the machine to get it.

They just made it more efficent to know what you do.

I have the same thoughts with store club cards. Some people think its stupid because they know what you buy. I kind of like that they know what I buy. Maybe if the store realizes I come in for just one to two things that happen to be in X area of the store alot they won't seperate those two things next time they reorganize if others do that too. I can't come up with any way them knowing what I buy is bad for me.

I'm sure you realize that the store separates those one or two things so you will have to walk through the store to get them and perhaps impulse buy a few more things.

Magic Band 2 will be given to a limited audience at Destination D today.
MagicBand 2 works exactly the same as the current MagicBand with more comfort and flexibility.
The Visual ID number remains etched on back of center icon.
The new magic bands will go on sale soon. The old MB will continue to work. Look for more announcement on the Disney parks Blog

That doesn't look much different than Magic Band 1, except it's shaped a little more like a traditional wristwatch. Does the middle pop out and usable in other ways (on a necklace, keyring, etc.) like had been rumored?

no additional description was given, we will have to wait and see

since all children born after 2003 have been fitted with an RFID chip implanted in them at birth, it is only a matter of time that the bands will not be necessary at all.

Interesting, and thanks for the additional photos link. It would be nice if the puck itself had some kind of attached loop so it could be added directly to my keychain, for example. Looks like that is not the case...but hey, its nice to see some other options.

This is pretty good. As an Apple watch wearer, I didn't really like having to wear two wristbands last week so being able to put the thing in my purse or on a keychain or lanyard would have been nice. Even better would be an Apple watch app, but I am not really counting on that.

I like the idea, but the new bands look like they would be huge on a child size wrist.
