No Pool Noodles Allowed

I think things like this can really vary. We used a float for my son while staying at Pop. Used it multiple times, no one said anything. Then one day we got called over and told we couldn't use it. Pool wasn't busy, but I guess that particular lifeguard didn't like it. :confused3
Same thing happened to us on day 6 at Vero. Lifeguard came on we had not seen all week and said no noodles. We had used all week, had talked with other guards and no one ever said not to use until she came on day 6. We had been in pool for hours and fine until her shift. We observed her very rude to everyone and set weird tone at pool Maybe a teen on a power trip. Next day she was gone and noodles were out again.

I saw The 15s solve this "problem" last week.lol:)

They would use one of the adult life vests at Surfboard Bay at All-Star Sports to "support" their head/neck area and put their feet on the edge of the pool so that they could "float" in the water while tanning and stay cool.lol:)

I'm surprised the lifeguards allowed this. We were at SSR in June and a couple of kids grabbed life vests to play with in the pool and the lifeguard informed them that they had to be worn properly and once they put them on, they couldn't take them off.

Also, wouldn't the ones used for their feet abstruct the view of the bottom just like a float would?

Hi everyone... I am responsible for starting this thread and I have some pretty funny news to report. My SIL that I was with that was told at the Contemporary " No pool noodles allowed" got to go stay overnight tonight at Beach Club. She went to SAB today and GUESS WHAT???? Yep people were there using Pool Noodles... Sooooo... I guess a lot depends on who the life guard is and which pool you use. I'm going to Old Key West villas next month for 2 nights and Yes I'm taking my Pool Noodle. Wish me luck... Lol

I'm taking mine too :upsidedow

ALWAYS have seen them at Stormalong Bay at BC.:banana:Headed to BCV in October, guess I'll see. In fairness, seems rules should be consistently applied with all on pools with lifeguards.:confused3:scratchin

My daughter and I were just at the Pop Century last week (7/14-1/18) and they sold pool noodles in the gift shop. I'm assuming people were allowed to use them in the pools...

I absolutely suspect it is a capacity thing. We're just back from the Poly. The Volcano pool was too crowded for noodles and floating around. The quiet pool wasn't and I saw noodles there - but the water was HOT!

I'll be at the GF in one month, and I'll be bringing my noodles along too. I don't think I'll take them to the main pool at all, since I know that will probably be the busiest and most crowded, but here's hoping we can use our noodles at the quiet pool!

We used our noodles at both pools, Beach Pool wasn't very crowded either of our August stays. Even used them in Poly pool last August. There's always open areas to float in, in August.

Oh nice, maybe I will try to take them to both pools then, worst case we are told not to use them, worth a shot I guess!

1. a lifeguard's duty is to enforce the rules. Not just some of the time, but ALL the time. Their job should DEPEND on it. Why? Because if someone dies on their watch, then everything will be questioned. Why were there pool noodles in the pool?
2. I do see reason's why rules are different at different resorts. Capacity means alot. The busier the pool, the more people per lifeguard should be taken into consideration.
3. We want CM's to do their jobs. We should help them if we can.
4. If rules allow noodles, then use them. If not then respect that (and by respecting that, it means not disrespecting a lifeguard for doing their job).

This has been an eye opening discussion for me. I must admit I've never heard of the no noodle rule. And on one resort thread there was an active pool noodle sharing sign up! So this is news to many of us.
I do understand no rings or floats, they do obstruct vision.

I don't know how or when lifeguards enforce things, but the worst thing I ever saw was last year at Poly pool, a toddler was floating by herself in a swim ring with water wings on, with no adult in sight at night. I don't understand how the lifeguards allowed her in the pool alone. She must have been all of 3 yrs.

Are you sure there was no adult around? I mean, surely no one helped their 3 yo put water wings on and then sent them into the pool alone? Right? Please tell me I'm right.

Fairly certain :sad2: my friend and I were watching this little girl for quite awhile. She hung out by the stairs near the shallow end and every once in awhile she would get out and run over in the direction of pool bar, then return to pool. Sad.
I guess parents were somewhere around but nowhere near the pool.

I don't think anyone was talking about disrespecting lifeguards or not following lifeguards instruction not to use pool noodle if asked.

We still laugh about the strictness of the life guards when we stayed at the Contemporary in 2000.

They were all over the guests, blowing whistles and yelling at people for every little thing.

I borrowed a life jacket for my then 4 year old to use in the pool, and the CM at the counter drilled me with questions and asked for ID. Room key wasn't good enough. I had to show him my driver's license.

I Googled when we got home to see if anyone had drowned there the week before because that's how they acted. Maybe every so often the life guards at a given resort get monitored by the bosses.

That makes me so sad. :(

I'm giving you a standing ovation in my living room!
My biggest pet peeve about Disney is guests knowing the rules, bending or breaking them, and then blaming the CM who enforced them. They're usually the same guests who'd sue Disney in a heartbeat if anything ever went wrong. ::yes::
