Disney's CARIBBEAN BEACH RESORT Information & Questions

We are also back yesterday from what I'd consider my first trip to Caribbean Beach (I was there in February 1996 as a 9 year old so I don't remember it well). We've now stayed at all the mods as adults, so interesting to compare.

Firstwdw, I wonder if we ever crossed paths, we weren't staying in Jamaica but maybe we met on a bus. Remember a family of redheads by any chance? I'm totally jealous of your birthday surprise, I had a milestone birthday while we were there and received not even a mention.

We had an issue our arrival day as well - we were traveling with our 1 year old daughter and had requested a pack and play, which our travel agent confirmed the day before arrival. Got to our room at 5:30pm, no pack and play. Called the front desk to let them know, went to dinner and for a walk, got back at 7:45, still no pack and play. 2 more phone calls, and the pack and play FINALLY showed up at 9:15, which was way past bedtime for an overtired 1 year old (and caused a serious meltdown). Got the trip off to a really rocky start.

Along with my family, we were in Barbados 1415 and 1416, connecting rooms, 1st floor. 1416 is a corner room, both had murphy beds. For being recently renovated, neither room was in great shape - we had trouble with the drawers under the murphy beds staying shut. As long as the connecting doors were closed, we felt it was very quiet in terms of hearing noise from next door neighbors, however outside and upstairs noise was another story. We were woken up twice by loud groups outside, and noise from the room above was very clear as well.

Personally, we were not fans of the food court at all. Cheeseburgers were very low quality and bland, Caesar salads were large and fresh but they were HUGELY over-garlic-ed even for a garlic lover like myself, breakfast platters just mediocre.

Bus situation was far from the best I've experienced, but I understand that average promised time is about 20 minutes. Unfortunately I don't think we ever waited less than 15 minutes when leaving CBR and 20 minutes was normal. The ever changing bus schedue was also hard to make heads or tails of; most mornings we stopped at other stops unless the bus was full, but then one afternoon when I was trying to take a bus to OPR they were all going right from Barbados to the park. And what a huge disappointment that Caribbean Beach at Epcot and MK is one of the furthest away bus stops. MK each day it was bus stop 32, 2nd to furthest, in between Pop and AofA. Our theory is because each time, we were picked up by the tandem busses, and those bus stops are probably the only ones that can accomodate it, and they are necessary for the number of people at CBR. I think this is important to note, as one of the reasons we picked a moderate over a value was to try to minimize our walking to/from the busses, and I don't feel that CBR is better than a value in this regards.

We also had really lousy housekeeping, but that can happen anywhere as well. Every day, something was missed - trash cans weren't emptied, cups weren't replaced, coffee maker wasn't cleaned, shampoo wasn't left, etc. It all just added up to a less than magical experience at the resort (our trip and time in the parks was lovely, but certainly didn't make me a CBR fan for life).

Glad to answer any questions or elaborate on anything that might be helpful.

So I posted a few days ago that I was able to get a Water view room with the free dining offer. We were originally going to book Standard but Water was the only option...

This morning there are Standard view rooms available and I am thinking about switching. The price difference is $211. What should be do?

I know that there are some Water view rooms in Trinidad North and Martinique (the building with preferred rooms) so if we were assigned one of those it would kind of be like we also got a preferred room. But I also really liked the idea of staying across the bridge in Jamaica or Aruba. We are a little concerned about the kids and the amount of walking, but since that will just be at the end of a long park day, and there are bus stops at every section, it shouldn't be a big different right. And am I right in thinking that Standard rooms may be even closer to the bus stops since the bus stops are on the outter edge of the resort?

So my question really comes down to...is Water view really worth the extra $211?

Odds are that you will not be sitting in your room looking at the lake or the pools. It is not worth $211 to me.

I also booked a water view for our stay last week and in my opinion it was not worth it. I could hardly see the lake-it was a peek a boo water view. We were placed in Martinique at first but had to move because of issues with the room smelling. We ended up in Jamaica and we really liked that section of the resort. I'd switch to standard view and save the $ personally. Plus sometimes water view is actually pool view-I'd rather look at a garden than a pool.

I'd personally book the standard room instead of a water view. The water views at ANY Disney resort can be overlooking a pool, lake or any body of water. And, even if you have to strain to see the water, it's still considered a water view.

I would not let the the proximity to the bus stops have any effect on my decision as to what level of room to book. My guess is you are talking a difference of 2-3 minutes at most between the rooms closest to the bus stops and the rooms furthest from the bus stops (with the exception maybe of Aruba).

Hey everyone. We just booked CBR for Sept 25-30 in a standard room. We are used to POP but am excited to be staying a mod. We just have a couple of questions. Are any parts of Jamaica preferred. I am looking at requesting Jamaica building 45 or 46 or Aruba 51 or 52 but not sure if they are considered preferred. We are driving so bus stops are not important to us, we just would like to be close to the food court. Also does Shutters require an ADR?

This is based on mapmywalk.com, which is generally pretty accurate but not exact. I did three measurements for each village - room closest to the main pool, middle of resort to main pool, and furthest room from main pool (everything in miles).

Trinidad South - 0.27/0.38/0.51
Trinidad North - 0.08/0.13/0.25
Martinique - 0.10/0.20/0.37
Barbados - 0.27/0.30/0.43
Aruba - 0.14/0.27/.046
Jamaica - 0.14/0.21/0.30

Wow this was quick!! Thank you so much for this little gem, it should be added to page 1 for sure...I'm sure I didn't see it there last weekend but maybe it's just me. We were hoping to get a preferred room in Trinidad North when we arrive, however this makes so much more sense than folks saying it took them xxx number of minutes to walk from A to B so we are happy with this. These facts clear up any confusion over distances from the villages to the pool which looks very close to OPR.

This should be on the main page! Great info

Thank you all for the quick responses! I'll let you know what we decide. Either way, we are super excited for our first stay at CBR!

Shutters does not require an ADR, but it can't hurt to make one.

I have a question.. We arrive in 5 days!!! I just received an email from Disney destinations, it says we have completed our resort online check in, and now for the first time I may be able to skip the front desk.. Then it gives me a link.

My question is, how do I know if I need to go to check in or not?

Your reservation should me linked to a magic band if you have one from a previous stay that still works and is still linked to your account:) Your magic bands will be scanned at MCO so they will know you are on the way before ME arrives since their system automatically sends the relevant info to the resort, that's also how the front gate security know who is on board if they ask the driver to verify the family details to check you can be assured they will know. If not you will still need to go to check in to get those magic bands and your room number .

If you signed up for Room Notifications via online check in, they will text or email you your room number.

I just booked CBR when a free dining offer popped up for our stay in September. I had originally booked Coronado but missed out on the free dining for our dates at the end of September. The cast member on the phone told me to keep checking for our dates, so I have been, and I was SHOCKED when this CBR offer showed up AND it's $31 cheaper a night than my original booking without free dining! I'm SO EXCITED, I can't even handle it!

I had been researching Coronado and was familiar with my room requests and now I'm back to square one, which is fine by me. I'm seeing a lot of love for the Jamaica area here and trying to figure out what I should request when the time comes? We booked just a standard room, nothing fancy, so I'm not sure what they'll accommodate. I'm a Disney noob, my first trip having been last December, so any advice on the best area to request and how to go about doing it would be great!

There are no Preferred rooms in Jamaica or Aruba. Both of those are excellent locations. Normally an ADR is not required for Shutters. It's still a hidden gem in WDW.

We really like Jamaica 45 and Aruba 51. Both are a very short stroll across the bridge to OPR and the Main Feature Pool. But we've found there are really no bad locations at CBR.

We are back at CBR Woo Hoo! No CBR for our dates 9/23-10/3 when FD rolled out Monday morning so we held a Suite at ASMu but this morning they must have released a few more rooms at CBR and we grabbed a Standard room and was able to save $783 being able to come back to CBR instead of ASMu! The last time I have stayed at CBR was in 1990! We have been staying at POP since we have been taking some of our grandkids, making our travel party, a party of 6, so we were getting 2 value rooms but we have a girls trip planned celebrating my sweet mama that is 82 and never been to Disney! We are soooo excited!
