October 2016!

I just booked our 2nd trip ever for 10 days staying again in a Garden View room at POR. Oct 12- Oct 21. I looked over other resorts, but for the money, it's familiar, and the boat to Downtown Disney or Disney Springs. It seemed POR was the choice. We are going to trying to squeeze in a day at Universal too. EEK. Looking forward to Food and Wine festival. I'll also be hunting for any other discounts or free dining plan. We've never done that! I'm excited to start the planning process and relearn, tips, etc.

:tinker:

We have final dates and I've put in for time off. We are going a few days later than planned so that threw off my planning a bit. BUT -- drumroll -- that delay has morphed into more days! 12 days! pixiedust: Luckily we have a request still open for DVC point rental so I was able to move that to the days we need. We'll now start off with US/IOA and stay at a hotel there. We were going to move to the Hilton (free with points) for 3 days and then hoping to move to the Poly (we'll see at the 7 month mark) but just learned the Hilton lost its early entrance privileges and DH is pushing to get more points for the 3 nights (should be able to). When I asked him if he wanted to save those Hilton points to use again for another stay like we did for a week in Hawaii (we have enough saved for the extra hotel nights now) and just stay the whole time at the Poly, he got a little gleam and, long story short, AKV has come back into play. He has a soft spot in his heart for the idea of AKV since he went on safari with his family in Africa years ago. Right now, I'm just glad we have firm dates! Three hotels does seem a bit much but I'll just be overly optimistic and go with it if that is what we end up doing.:hippie:

Hi there, Sounds like you will have quite a trip, how exciting. We are booked at the Poly Villas from the 8th-16th. I am very excited to stay at the Poly! I thought i'd let you know in case you are looking for feedback that the buses at AKV are great. We stayed at Kidani during spring break last year and were pleasantly surprised how speedy the buses were. We preferred them by far to the EPCOT area buses that go to a ton of resorts before going to the parks. AKV buses always go to Kidani first, so you will always get a seat and then a quick stop at Jambo House and you are off to the parks. Transportation was our one hesitation to staying so far out and it honestly worked out great. We stayed at the Beach Club a few years ago and it shared buses with the Yacht Club, Swan, Dolphin and Boardwalk. We would chose AKV for transportation any day.

We are looking at going Oct 2016 around Columbus weekend. We have been during this time b4 & we like F&W festival. We haven't decided on resort yet. AKL is our favorite. Yet we have never stayed at an Epcot resort b4 so thought we may want to try that, probably Yacht Club. The prices are so high for those though which makes it hard to book it. DH suggested a split stay, which I am not too crazy about, but will then be able to pull off Epcot resort and still staying at our favorite. Plus, having quick access F&W Fest would be nice.
Should we do YC 1st & then switch to AKL or reverse it? Do split stay affect booking fast passes at all?

So I'm at sort of a dilemma about my October trip. I know I want to leave Oct 1st but I can't decide if I should book a return flight for Oct 9th (Sunday) or Oct 10th (Monday). There's no school that Monday so we could always get home later on Sunday night and just sleep in the next day. Or we could just leave midday on Monday and swim and stuff in the morning. I know most of the parks will be pretty busy that weekend anyway so maybe we'd only go to get in some fast passes or things we missed. I feel like having that Sunday to sort of "clean up" the extras would make the rest of the week a lot more flexible. But, who can say no to basically saving the cost one night's room? What would you do? TIA for your help.

I personally would come home Sunday. I know it's always so tempting to have "one more night," but I personally like to have at least one recovery/laundry day when I get home before jumping back into the busy weekly routine.

Thanks for the quick reply! And yes you're probably right. I'm totally eyeing a 4pm flight on United, if only it would lower just a bit more I could pull the trigger.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

::: crickets :::

sigh. Yeah, far away. Doesn't stop me from planning though! DH swears next time he won't let me know when we are going until exactly 1 year and 1 month before.

OH! I forgot the most important part of the planning -- why I'm out and about on the resort board. Figuring out where to stay! I think we will start off our vacation at the place which shall not be named for a day or so and then move to WDW. Thinking a split stay but I think for 7-8 nights I only want to do 2 resorts. And right now I'm considering WL (and VWL either through Disney or renting points), BC (and BCV), AKL (and AKV -- I see you are sensing a pattern, padewan) and POR or CBR if the budget won't hold us with the others. Truth be told, I'd cut out AKL right here and now -- it's great but it's far, far away -- and just stick with WL and BC if I can swing it but DH, who has been to Africa, has a bug u-uh, somewhere -- about going to this place. I figure some slow education might help get him over that. :) If not, well, there are worse crosses to bear!

UPDATE: well, that didn't take long. Good news: DH has realized how far out it is for AKL. Bad news: he is also realizing how expensive it will be. So he is pushing for a split stay with Hilton LBV and then a Disney resort. He racks up Hilton points so we would likely get 2-3 days for free, which would carry us through Columbus Day weekend. And it is hard to turn down free. But then, in further crushing my dreams, he now doesn't want to stay where you have to catch a bus. Honestly. I already told him that there is NO WHERE you would not have to catch a bus unless he rented a car. And he wants to stay now at a monorail resort which I'm not really looking for. I am eying BC or WL for the theming and fun for the kids. No firm decisions as of yet, which is good. And he's going to reach out to a friend of his who is married to a Disney middle management gal, who helped us with our DLR vacation. So that might bear fruit especially in terms of advice as to accommodations.
I just booked with Dreams 10/30-11/7, Pop pool preferred. Squeeeel We are gonna try to do the Halloween and Christmas parties. I hope it works out. It will be me and my 12 yr old daughter. She has no idea.

We Just booked these exact dates and I'm so excited! We originally planned the first of November but we just took a tour of our kid's school we are praying they get into and the first words out of their mouth was "we strongly discouraged taking your children out of school for vacation which is why we've built in extra breaks" so.... Oct. 1st it is. We also were kind of wanting to come home on Monday and give them one more day idk.

Southwest sorta made the choice for me, so Monday it is (for now). The flights I wanted were just too expensive on Sunday so I decided to go with Monday 1pm. That should give us plenty of time to get ready in the morning. But I'd really love to save that night's hotel rate by leaving Sunday evening. I guess it's a wait and see situation now.

That's probably what we will end up doing also if the tickets are that much more. Last time we ended up just staying the last night at a way cheaper hotel by the airport and that seemed to work out well. I guess I'll just keep looking into all the options. :)

We are in for October!! Me, DH and DS who will be 8. DS's fifth trip, and staying at the Beach Club again. So excited, never been in October before and looking forward so much to escaping the cold weather at home for sunshine!

Was originally planning a December trip, but with the kids schedules we'd be too close to Christmas, so October it is!!!! DS is in college and reserves so we get to utilize the military discount/tickets :cool1:. It's looking like DS/fiance, DH, myself and the 3 younger ones (16, 12 & 8), 3 rooms at POP, from 10/6-10/11, younger kids get one family trip a year, and DS already knows no Friday classes lol, and they have fall break then. It's a short trip, but its better than staying home for the weekend :thumbsup2

We havent been since 2007, so this is going to take some major planning, esp with such a large and varied group!

We are planning on going Oct 28-Nov 2! I'm excited l. Has anyone done the not so scary Halloween? Would it be good for a 2 year old. We are booking the CBR. My mom suggested we go to Pop and stay a full seven days instead but the rooms at the Caribbean look great.

Hi All
We have booked a Holiday from Australia going to Disneyland In October we are so Excited we are staying in a Hotel in Anaheim. what are the best days to go in October as I read it will be busy.

YAY! It's getting real! I'm working on advance dining reservations now to be ready for next month.

We are doing the meal plan with one sit down, one counter meal and one snack per day. I'm thinking we will do Chef Mickey for breakfast one day because it's in our hotel, one meal at Hollywood and Vine (the Disney Junior one) and one at the castle. (that takes 2 credits). Weare doing 2 days at Magic Kingdom, one at Hollywood studios and one at Animal kingdom.

We are staying 4 days but I may switch to 5. I really want to stay 5 so I'm hoping that there will be some sort of discount that comes out.

I have no experience at planning - does anyne suggest certain days of the week for certain parks? We are staying monday- friday and will have 4 park days. We aren't going to epcot.

What do you guys think about hte halloween party? Is it worth the extra time and money? I'm not sure I want to take away from all the other stuff since our time is so limited. Opinions?
