Prices just hit my threshold :-(

Get it right, the furor is NOT over the increases, it's about increasing the costs while cutting service and product. Few would complain about price increases if there was a corresponding increase in customer service, maintenance, food quality and park attractions.

I think that soon the crowds will tend to be more day visitors- people with a one day one park ticket. Now that doing a week at Disney has gotten so crazy with the pricing, I think a lot of people will end up just visiting MK as a day during a few day trip to Orlando kind of thing. Even though the one day tickets are pricey, it's still all a lot of people will be able to afford. Asking a family of 4 or 5 to either purchase 4 or 5 7-day MYW tickets or 4 or 5 annual passes, adding up to thousands before you even get to reserving the hotel or gas or airfare money, is just completely out of reach of about half the population.

This is what we've been doing for quite a few years now. We usually on a week long trip do two days at SeaWorld (take advantage of their second day for $15) -- do this the first and last day of our trip and throw in a day to the MK. The other three days are typically small attraction / resort days. We bunk up with relatives in an offsite condo and the trip is loads of fun and very inexpensive. We bring in sandwiches to the MK and we do a day trip to the Poly to walk the grounds, maybe rent a little boat, take the monorail around (get the three hour freebie parking pass on one of our non-park days.) // Ticket cost per person is about $200 -- $105 for the MK and the rest for two days at SeaWorld. // On occasion we do a day at Universal to see the new stuff (last year did a one day hopper to see the new Diagon Alley stuff, but not planning to return anytime soon. We liked the park very much, but like Disney and SeaWorld more.)

Disney is reading this

I think the folks at Disney have other things to focus on rather than what a handful of people on a message board have to say. Not to minimize opinions, but if I was still part of corporate America and was employed by Disney I would be much more concerned with feedback from stockholders- as their investments would be helping to pay my salary, and newsgroup comments do not help pay the mortgage.

Again- Disney owes us nothing. They don't care about a few days worth of news coverage regarding a price increase- especially since more increases are probably coming very soon and they probably already have the press releases ready when the next batch are announced. They are much more concerned with the bottom line than they are the furor surrounding this and that and the other thing that has, quite frankly, become very muddied and is all over the place in this thread. It started with prices, then went to food, then to customer service, then to hygiene- and the list goes on and on. Then as the thread lost it's focus all of these random concerns got grouped together and became about value- and how dare they raise prices and not give us something of equivalent value in return?

If it is really that bad- one has to wonder what some of those commenting on these various perceived 'shortcomings' regarding WDW are doing on a message board planning a vacation to a place they feel this negatively about. If Disney notices anything- what they are noticing is that people aren't going anywhere. There hasn't been a mass exodus from the newsgroups- and most people are not cancelling their vacations. They 'might' or 'probably' will do something at some point in the unspecified future- but most are still here on the boards, and logging onto their MDEs going about the business of planning their vacations. There is disgruntlement, but people aren't changing their vacation plans. That's what gets noticed. Disney has final quarter earnings to be concerned with and assuring stockholders continue to get a decent return on their investment, and could care less what we think about what amounts to a few bucks a day increase in daily admission price for those of us that have an AP. We can buy an AP- or not buy one. We can go to WDW- or opt not to. With any scenario of this type, nothing we say or do matters to the corporation because there will ALWAYS be hoards and hoards- and still more hoards- of people lined up right behind us to take our place. We don't have to like it, but we do have to accept it- as the alternative is to vacation elsewhere- and that isn't something my family would currently consider.

But it IS something my family will do. And many others. You are right that Disney couldn't really care what is posted on a message board. Watch for attendance numbers next year and see how much faster Universal grows.
THAT get's the attention of the investors.

So basically Disney doesn't care? Interesting concept.

Sorry you are in that position. It would be nice to think there are 'many' others- but my guess is that it is way fewer than we believe it to be. People will get upset for a while, but the Disney parks will be busting at the seams again next year- and the year after that- and for many years to come.

No It's that simple. It's a want not a need there for it is a luxury.
I would say that everything besides a just adequate home of some kind and food and transportation and medical care (and A/C at least in Texas) is wants instead of needs. But how sad it would be if we couldn't even discuss our wants.

I still prefer to believe that good companies care at least somewhat about their customers. Maybe that's my form of pixie dust but I'd rather not think of Disney as just another money-grubbing corporation. I know that they are but I don't want to completely accept it.

So there goes the benevolent "to prevent us busting at the sesms" claim the execs made...

You are missing the point. They were in #1, then were moved to #2. There was probably a time in 1993 where they could never imagine not going. Then as prices moved up, they were put in #2 where they would have to make decisions based off of budgets. Now, they have shifted to the other side of the #2 group.
I could never imagine not going to WDW about 2 years ago and then FP+ came out. Ever since then, I've kind of been on the fence. It's crazy to know how a child ( in our case, grandchild) will react 2 months before a trip. Just signed a listing agreement with the timeshare store today. I bought 2 contracts 8 years ago with the thought of being able to take our grandchildren and maybe even great grandchildren while staying at a villa. Now, when we go, we'll probably stay offsite. Disney is offering less and less to its onsite and loyal customers so I don't feel the need to be one anymore. Paying more to get less doesn't make sense.

The big-wigs at Disney probably read these boards for entertainment. Or more likely, they have some lackey read it to them as they set fire to $100 bills to light their cigars.

They may think the complaining is a little louder and will last a little longer with this one...but just like the furor over previous increases, enforcing return times on legacy FP, eliminating legacy for FP for FP+, etc... they know it will die down eventually and the crowds will keep coming- in record numbers.
Sadly I think this is the exact response of the current board. There hasn't been a customer focussed executive in a real position of control since Wells passed.

Been that way since Bobby showed up.

Been that way for much longer than the past several years. I think we attach 'emotions' to the Disney corporation due to their products, and we expect the corporation to 'care' about us. Their product line elicits emotion from us- and that is what they quite literally are banking on. But it is naïve for us to believe that it is reciprocated by them. The Disney Corporation is a multinational conglomerate with their hands in movies, television, merchandising, theme parks- and the list goes on. They simply do not- and can not- 'care' if "Mr. Smith" decides not to vacation at WDW. The amount of money that decision amounts to- when compared to total gross revenues- is completely irrelevant in the big picture. And, because their product line plays on our emotions, Disney can be fairly certain that "Mr. Jones" and his family will step up to the plate and fill the void created by "Mr. Smith's" decision not to go. It is sad, but true.

And you think they do? THAT'S the interesting concept...
To believe such a thing would be folly. Why would Disney invest so heavily in surveys if they didn't care what their customers think? Do you believe that they wish to waste money on surveys that they take nothing from?

We've been every year for 28 years. We have met our threshold now. Son, wife just got back and they have reached their threshold too. Disney won't miss any of us. We all feel really bad as we all love Disney, but enough is enough, at least for us.

Like I said. Check the attendance numbers for Universal next year and see how much faster they grew than Disney year over year. Then it won't we what we think or guess. It will be hard numbers. It's really more of a long term play. Disney has spent the last decade trying to KEEP people on their site and out of Universal. That is no secret. This is going to result in the opposite. Again though. only time will tell. Let's see when the next attendance figures are published by the trade groups.

I bet they thought the same thing about 1991 too. It didn't go to well for a long while after that year!
