I remember when I was little, probably three or fourish, I was in the gift shop after potc. This is when capt hook met nearby with smee. Back then my family went at very slow times so we could almost always walk right up to characters. Anyway, as most little boys are I was caught up with the toy guns and toy swords, while I was holding one of the toy swords capt hook came over and took another one out of the barrel and started a sword fight with me! I had so much fun fighting the villain from one of my favorite movies. It is one of my favorite disney memories, and one of the main reasons I love disney world so much now.

My best interaction was at DLR with Alice and the Mad Hatter. My DH was pushing our empty stroller (since the kids were out of it to get autographs) and Alice came over and said she was so tired and asked if she could sit in the stroller. So she sat down and my DH pushed her around in the stroller. She held her hands up yelling "whee!!" like she was on a roller coaster. So much fun!

When we met Anna and Elsa, they told us we needed to ask Minnie about her chocolate chip cookies. My DS (7) talked about it for the next 2 days until we finally met Minnie. When he asked her, she giggled a little and rubbed her belly. When we walked away, my son was so sad. I said "what's the matter?" He said "I thought Minnie would give us cookies!!" :)

For those that went to WDW or Epcot, any good interactions with Marie? Because I remember meeting her twice during my Senior Trip. I told her "You have no idea, how much I was looking for you." and she acted very shy around me and hugged and kissed me more times when Minnie did back in my 2006 trip to WDW (My second Trip). On my last day at WDW, she made a crying gesture when I told her "This is my last day" and blew me kisses as I left her. I remember Pinocchio messed with my hair back in 2004 (My first visit).

I had a great experience with her in 2010. First off, her knees were black, because she was crawling around with kids. The little girl in front of me had a pen with a charm hanging off of it, and Marie was enthralled. She acted hypnotized by it and then started batting at it. It was really adorable.

When we met Stitch in 2013 I was wearing a Lilo and Stitch tee-shirt and I'd brought my stuffed Stitch some friends had bought me from Aulani (he has on a lei and a hat) and Stitch put the stuffed animal down and indicated that the people in line could get pictures with the stuffed animal, and then grabbed me by the hand and started running away with me. It was amazing. We were laughing and I was like "Stitch, that's not fair we have to go back!"

I hadnt really met any fave chatacters until my last trip in 2014. Now they're my favourite! We met Ariel on a slow night with no wait and she spent a good 15 minutes or so talking to us and showing off treasures. Unfortunately the photopass CM only took 2 pictures, but i think thats because she was involved in all the conversation too!
Though we went back a few days later and met a different friend of Ariel with the intention of doing some fun poses with her (fish faces) and she refused saying she'd just do princess poses instead. That was disappointing..
Gaston is always a favourite! My friend (accidently) touched his butt and he was ragging on us for objectifying him! Priceless!
Tiana and Naveen were just excellent though. We were about the halfway point in line and I'm sure they spent much longer with us than many others... we had lots of discussion about Naveen's cooking abilities and he was just brilliant! Then as we were leaving Tiana grabbed my arm as she spotted my tattoos and so we had discussions about them too as she wanted to hear about them.

*edit* i forgot about meeting Belle! We were discussing accents and she did her best french accent which was amazing and hilarious!

Aurora was probably my least favourite to meet.. i was so excited to meet her and wore my Sleeping Beauty shirt. She barely noticied or spoke. Just saying hi, quick pose, thanks, bye.

I know this isn't a Disney meet and greet but heck, i thought I'd share it anyways as I'm really enjoying following this thread and hearing everyone's stories.

This actually happened in Port Aventura in Spain (which used to be part owned by Universal so that's my kinda, not so strong link back to Disney :p)

We were at our hotel and were walking to the reception when we watched the Cookie monster step out from the "backstage" door with his handler. The big child that I am, I could help but gasp and happily exclaim "Cookie Monster!"

He turned towards me and threw his arms open for a big hug! I was so happy and it was all so spontaneous. The characters in Port Aventura really are great with adults.

I had to share one of my favorite character interaction moments. My 6 year old son desperately loves Snow White. When she came around at Akershus, he told her that she was his favorite. She said "You're my favorite too!" And proceeded to give him a kiss on his forehead. He proudly wore that bright red lipstick mark on his head all day! She made the trip extra special for him and all of us!

this is so sweet i love how princesses treat the little princes i have a photo album somewhere with a picture of me when i was 5 of a kiss from either cinderella or aurora that apparently i too kept on all day!

I was a bit nervous about meeting characters when we first went to WDW. Chef Mickey was our first time and I thought it was amazing. That was until about 12 hours later when we were waiting for the monorail and this woman came up to us and said "You were in Chef Mickey's this morning. Don't you think it's a bit weird for two adults to be meeting characters?". Until that point I hadn't thought anything of it, but it made me really self consious.

I got over it and have gradually added more characters each trip. Minnie is my absolute favourite, and I often Disney bound as her and it always gets a good reaction from her and from Mickey. Last year I met Minnie in every park, sometimes several times (i.e. in Town Square and then at the Big Top or during MVMCP). We have just got back from Disneyland Paris where we met 18 different characters during our 6 days, some several times. I loved meeting Minnie and Mickey together as they have great interaction with guests and each other, Chip and Dale who were jealous that I had a Stitch badge but no badge of them; they made me pinky promise that I would get one of them (which I did!), and Donald was a hoot! He loved my blue dress and didn't want to allow my husband into the pictures! If anyone visits Disneyland Paris, be sure to do Meet Mickey in Fantasyland; it is very special. I also had fantastic interaction with Lilo who loved my Stitch badge and toy hanging from my bag and also stole my autograph book, which she found hilarious.

I feel a bit awkward with the face characters, but I'm working on it. I met Anna, Elsa, Ariel, Cinderella, Belle, Jasmine and Snow White last year and hope to add to it this November when we will be in WDW.

as others have said that woman should have minded her own business and wanted nothing more than to be spiteful. i too struggled with characters and if i should get in line to see them since i use a walker or scooter and sometimes causes a little bit of time once the enteraction is over as i have to get the device out of the way plus me being 23 lol. but people helped me learn in disney all the characters love you, especially the ones you show that you really care about!

I celebrated my 29th birthday this past October in WDW, and had some pretty great Character experiences. Ariel at Akershus breakfast was a definite stand-out and one of the absolute highlights of that trip. I really wish I had written to someone to tell them how really fantastic she was. On the other hand, I've had a few experiences where it felt some characters weren't sure/not interested in anything beyond a photo - which is OK, but can definitely make you walk away with a "hmm" feeling.
well that is a great birthday memory! i haven't met her in years she is definitely on my list for this upcoming october trip! and i know what you mean about the ones who just want a photo lol

I had a great time during my solo trip last September meeting lots of characters! My first interaction with Gaston was amazing especially when he said he was a treat for all 5 senses and I could not get out of my head that that meant he tasted good too but being at Disney I resisted the temptation to mention it..... I also met Aurora, Snow White and Anna who were great and we talked about how difficult it was to keep our hair nice in the humidity and about my paw prints tattoo which meant I was friends with all the woodland creatures....

Got some great pics with non face characters as well with dancing around with Pluto and Mickey proposing to me when I was dressed as Minnie Mouse for MNSSHP.

I did unfortunately have 2 not so great interactions one with Gaston (a different one to previously) when he told me to go and bring him back some pretty girls and Elsa kinda giving me the snooty look and evil eyes but all the others were fab so I just ignored them and went to meet some much more friendly characters like Ariel and the Tremaines who are an absolute hoot!

I had such positive experiences last time overall with characters I've got multiple character meals for my upcoming trip and my list of characters to meet just keeps getting longer

im attending the halloween party this year I'm so excited really hoping for some good interactions then while I'm dressed up as well lol. and elsa i think is always very reserved and icy lol some characters stick very close to their storylines while some days they are more relaxed.

I had a similar experience. I was in line to meet Pooh/Tigger/Rabbit when the couple behind me with their kid started complaining because there were some adults meeting the characters. They were so terribly entitled, "they should let the little kids go! this is not for them". Ugh. Disgusting behaviour, and what example they are setting up for their kid.

I was always very awkward with the characters, because I'm always awkward at photos and sometimes I didn't knew what to talk about, but they always made me feel very comfortable, with very few exceptions. Sometimes the CMs close by were a bit weird(?) too, but I think they just wanted to rush and go through the big lines.

My favourite experiences were with: Buzz and Woody in front of TSMM (they were so sweet, and so in-character! Adorable. Favourite interaction). Baloo and King Louie were also adorable. Robin Hood was also very nice! I couldn't say his name in English (I was embarrassed because I didn't knew the proper pronunciation orz) but it was very nice. Mulan was very sweet too, and so was Snow White (even though she creeped me out a little because she was TOO in character. Her voice was very high and she sang all her phrases, which thinking now it was very fun but it caught me by surprise)

But I say go for it! People who say that it's not for adults are entitled and rude, and their opinion should hold no value.

haven't met woody or buz personally, but you said it right the ppl who say its not for anyone but kids need to just hush

I have never had a bad character interaction. None have treated me different than a child. They have always taken their time, talked extensively (face characters), given autographs and taken pics. The best interactions with masked characters is when I took my own autograph books I've made with pics of the characters on their own pages. They see their picture and reactions are priceless! Here are some of my best character encounters:

- Lady Tremaine and the stepsisters: anytime I have done the 1900 Park Faire dinner they have been a riot
- Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse at Town Square Theater: My DH and I encountered a Minnie at AK the day before and she fawned over my wedding ring as if to say, "when will Mickey give me one?". The next day at MK, when we had our pic made with both, my DH turned to Mickey and said, "Minnie and I were discussing this yesterday. When are you going to make an honest mouse out of her?" Immediately, Mickey' hands went up to like "I'm not hearing you!" and Minnie following him around like "That's right! Yes!". My husband says to Mickey, "Come on, are you a man or a mouse?" Mickey points to his ears as if to say "DUH!" That was pretty classic!
- Cruella de Vil at MNSSHP: she was giving diva tips to us all and showed us how to pose like one. As soon as we took the pic, a little boy comes up to her dressed as a dalmation. She immediately turned to him in mid-sentence and screams "PUPPY!"
- Queen of Hearts at MNSSHP: she was in rare form! Popping our hands and bottoms if we "smarted off to her".

Those are just the ones that come to mind. I can't wait to see what interactions my 2YO DD will have in September!

first off i hope y'all get more rest memories in september as its coming up i know we are going crazy with our october trip so i know y'all must be too lol. the tremaines are riot lol i met them outside the cinderella castle and omg they are so worth the wait!!
love the villains you met at the halloween party!! hoping we get to meet some as we are going this year (my first halloween party)

I loved reading everyone's stories!
Just the pick-me-up I needed, and wanted to contribute myself.

I think my most favorite character interaction was with Pluto at MGM (yes, that long ago :rotfl:).
I was in line for a M&G with him under the hat, and when my turn came, he noticed my birthday pin.
He pointed it out to the CM that was with him, and prompted her to sing happy birthday by conducting.
Soon people behind me in line joined in, and made me feel very special.

I've also had some great fun with Chip & Dale.
One time, they started to fight over me, grabbing my arms for a little tug-o-war.
Another time, I gave them acorns I found along the way, and well, they went nuts over them. :D
Oh, and I always test my mother (whenever she's with me) in telling them apart, and they usually make a good fun out of that.

I think the key to a great character meet is to let them know that you want to engage with them, that you are there to have fun with them.

Looking forward to more fun in August...

your obt'
me
oh you are even closer to your magical trip!! hope its wonderful, love chip and dale met them a few times they are always so silly lol i always try to have a hat or something they can sneak off lol.

I had a good time with Rapunzel, she was so funny! I said: It takes a lot of revitalising for your hairs! She said yes, its take 6 hours to comb! And its difficult when i go to swim because 70 feet of wet hair is very heavy! And she swirl her braid when i laugh. I had memory maker and they take just 3 pictures at a time but for that i have lot of pictures!

(it's me at the left, my sister at the right she was too shy to talk because we are not talk in english very well)

I blow him a kiss and he said there, on my muscle lol!

I have lot of pictures with Gaston too! Perfect stranger took me in picture because we interact well and i was funny as Gaston lol!

I have fun with Anna too because i got the cold at Orlando (ironic, it was so hot and i sneeze). She said it was not her sister's fault!

I am 42 years old but my heart is young. I had cancer 4 years ago, i lost my mother (in my arms) and my godmother 1 week apart last year and i take all the fun in life i can have.
I'm sorry for your health issues but glad you've overcame them, an I'm sorry for your losses, i can't understand from your perspective, but I've had similar trials of hospital life, and loss. i agree with you philosophy so much we do have to grab all the fun in life we can. also those are amazing pics!! you can tell your having so much fun

I am surprised no one has mentioned one of my favorites yet- Mike and Sulley from Monsters! These 2 guys are a riot! My husband has to take a “bear hug” style picture with Sulley every visit. One time, Mike pretended to be mad about it, so I had to take one with him to make up for it! Then both of them played around with the picture of DH, DS (15) and I. They kept blocking DS’s face.

We have also had great fun at CP with Pooh and friends. We are all HUGE fans, so typically have on a shirt with one or more of them for our meal. Last year I had my Eeyore shirt and he pretended to get embarassed and cover his eyes with his ear. He came back and hugged me several times before leaving!

Stitch at Ohana has been a great one as well. We asked him his badness level for the day, and he showed us around his stomach that day- we told him that was pretty good!

Finally, I liked seeing the pictures of the PP’s DH proposing to Aurora. Mine did the same with Anna. She was a great sport and played along. After that, though, Elsa looked at him like he was a nut job when it was his turn to meet her!
i didnt know they were meetable to be honest lol, will definitely look into them. as for elsa haha.. yeah ppl had some comments about her hair from my pictures lol, but still worth the visit

When we were at Disney last June, I noticed a marked difference in character interactions for children vs adults without children. This was for multiple characters. The characters tended to spend lots of time interacting with my then three year old and the other kiddos in line, and maybe a minute or so with solo adults or groups of adults/teens. (Mainly just said a quick "hi," took a photo, and signed his/her book.) I find this completely understandable for a character to want to give more time to a child who is in absolute awe, is giddy with excitement, and actually believes they are the real Mickey Mouse, Ariel, etc.

Our most memorable character experience was when my son met Snow White. He's very friendly and outgoing and asked her all about the seven dwarfs. They probably talked for five minutes and then she started whispering to the CM with her. The CM informed us that Snow White would love for our son to escort her down Main Street (as she was about to take a break). It was so sweet watching them walk hand in hand. She called him her little prince and gave him a big hug and kiss on his forehead. The photopass photographer followed us the whole time and got some precious shots. It's definitely an experience we will never forget!
that is so cool he got to escort her! that is truly a magical memory!!

Figured I'd add another good story from our last trip:

We stopped to meet Mike and Sulley as we just missed them the previous year. A group in front of us had a little girl with them. Sulley scared her making her cry. He was so upset that he scared her that he proceed to start banging his head against on of the poles in the area! He continued trying to make her laugh by crying into his hands, and putting himself in the corner for a "time-out" until she was happy and ready for her photo. It was very cute and quite nice for a monster :)

For our turn with Sulley, he starts by pointing out the Olaf shirt I was wearing that day. He then starts to "build" a snowman in front of him. We all thought that it was nice at first. I was saying to Sulley as he worked that I love building snowmen. As soon as a finished he lifts up his foot and "stomps" on the snowman he just build. Our reactions caught by the Photopass photographer were priceless! :scared1: Needless to say we find Sulley a bit meaner and unlikeable than before:rotfl:He was great though for everyone. Quite the ham!
all your stories are welcome!! he may need to tone down the meanness lol as now they gather laughter lol

those interacting with a character memories are always cherished in my opinion, more rare these days but can happen :)

well i would have expected cookies too!!! lol and oh i love that Alice story very true to her self.

For those that went to WDW or Epcot, any good interactions with Marie? Because I remember meeting her twice during my Senior Trip. I've only seen here in MK before the parades on Main Street never got to meet her but she looks fun

omg this i would have loved to see! he is one of my favorite disney characters in general but this is so him, i would have seen how far we could have got maybe even a ride XD

sometimes it happens even when we show off our love for the characters, and wow I'm sure your friend was embarrassed about touching gaston lol. and I'm sure without a doubt he made a scene lol, haven't met him personally but have people watched an saw his interactions (usually get there when line closes lol)

I know this isn't a Disney meet and greet but heck, i thought I'd share it anyways as I'm really enjoying following this thread and hearing everyone's stories.

will let it slide lol, plus its sweet memory :) gotta love cookie monster!

I was 16 years old and my Older Sister was 19 on our last trip to WDW last year and we had a lot of fun interactions with the characters. Some that come to mind are Mickey and Minnie, Goofy, Stitch, Tigger, Pluto, and especially Captain Hook. Yes I said Captain Hook. He kept following us threatening us with his hook. I truly believe the person inside the costume had a thing for my Big Sister. :rotfl:

Had some great interactions with characters this past trip!!

I was celebrating my college graduation so I had my celebration pin when I met Tiana and Naveen. Btw they had tons of personality and zeal. They were playing around with each other and other people meeting them; it was awesome. Anyways, they signed my autograph book and as they were doing so, Tiana asked me what I graduated with and what my future plans were. So I told them: BA in women's studies, planning on getting an MSW/MPH dual degree and working in community health. They were both very impressed and then Tiana said that I should impart some of that hardworking sense to Naveen. And then when I asked for a photo with just her, Tiana threw Naveen out! It was hilarious lol

The other two instances I have in mind were both in Epcot and at that point, I had my graduation Mickey Ears.

I Disneybound as Winnie the Pooh and I went to the meet and greet w/ Pooh and Tigger in UK. They both cheered and were congratulating me on graduation. Then I told Pooh "look I dressed up as you! I even have bee earrings and a bee anklet and I drew hunny bees on my Magic Band" and Pooh cheered and hugged/kissed me. Then Tigger gave Pooh and I moment so that I could take a picture with only Pooh, and then all of us took a picture.

And then in China, I met Mulan. She asked what I graduated with, and when I said BA in women's studies, she asked what that means. I said "studying women's issues and how to solve them" (WHICH IS VERY SIMPLIFIED but I didn't have the time to have a deep conversation lol) and she said "oh you mean how the Imperial Army doesn't allow women to join?" and I said "YES that really isn't fair and you kick a lot of ***!" And then she asked what my next steps are and I said right now job hunting and she said "oh you need to talk to Mushu about that because he hasn't gotten a job. I keep hinting that the market has an opening but.." and I replied "he doesn't want to wake up the ancestors anymore?" and she said "well when I say that he says that he's my guardian now and I'm not paying him for that and then it gets a little awkward." And then we took a picture!

Overall really happy! :D

first off lol shh! no one is inside those costumes lol it is the actual character so Hook might have been into your girlfriend though haha! but that is a good memory and little rare as you don't see him walking around often anymore.

that is so cool how the they asked about your degree and the girl characters who both really represent advancement in woman were ones you got to meet! sounds really fun!:)

OP: Funny you should bring this up because I have often felt a little awkward at times around the characters, at least the non-face ones. I always find myself acting like they're deaf and doing sign language to them lol We're going back in 3 weeks and I've already convinced myself that I'm going to break out of my shell some and see what happens.

I will tell you that MNSSHP last year is what totally made me fall in love with Disney all over again and I can actually thank the characters for that. During the parade we were up on Main Street near where they will briefly stop the parade to let people across and we were pretty much alone there. My wife & I were kind of bouncing up and down to the music (it's rather catchy) and next thing I know the Mad Hatter, Alice, Tweedle Dee & Dumb jump out of the parade and come over and start dancing with us on the side of the street. It was pure Disney magic and I felt like a kid all over again. Then here comes Eeyore out of the parade and takes my hat off and puts it on his head. It just kept going on and on with all these characters and dancers giving us all this personal attention. It will live on as one of my most favorite and best memories of all times because it was just pure happiness. I'm crying as I type now lol

Don't be afraid to interact, it takes you to another place and really is good for the soul!

This reminds me of seeing a video of Alice and the Hatter riding in the Mad Tea Cups in WDW. It's not often you see Disney characters riding any attraction in the parks.

One of my best experiences happened a very very very long time ago on my first trip to the world in 1987. I always loved Donald duck. He was my favorite character. We went to a character meal (I have no idea which one) and for some reason I had a stuffed Donald duck with me. Donald came over and I told him he was my favorite character. Donald took my stuffed animal and ran over to Mickey Mouse and started "taunting" him with it! He was pointing to me and pointing to the stuff animal and laughing at him. It was funny.

On my last trip I think the best was dancing with Phineas and Ferb in DHS.

We often get <3'd by the characters. I think they make the cutest pictures!!!

aweome pictures!!, and agree i love getting those epic shots that just show off your love of the character!

OP: Funny you should bring this up because I have often felt a little awkward at times around the characters, at least the non-face ones. I always find myself acting like they're deaf and doing sign language to them lol We're going back in 3 weeks and I've already convinced myself that I'm going to break out of my shell some and see what happens.

well as you can see through this thread there is nothing to be nervous about or to feel awkward about, virtually everyone here agrees to that (why i love this thread, its gathering so may memories!) definitely get out of your shell and just have fun (trust me i know might seem hard right before but i think its worth it to try)
Love your memory with eyore (also rare for him to engage like that) I'm getting really excited about the this years halloween party as we have tickets to attend and it will be my first I've heard only good things:) and they are tears of joy though so its ok :)

I agree they don't do it quite as often as back when it was first starting out however there are ways and random times it will happen :)

wow and yes it seem the donald vs mickey underline feud has been going on since they were first drawn lol, but yes donald loves to be singled out as #1 and love seeing a character face or non face react when they see that the guest is a fan by having stuff with them on it!

My high school choir performed annually at DL/DCA for some kind of Disney School Music Festivals. In 2006, my senior year, my friends and I went through a short cut around the castle and found the Mulan face character sitting there, bored out of her mind and no one was around. The cast members there ended up funneling our little group of Asian kids to Mulan (ironic, ya?), and I can tell she was glad to finally interact with some guests.

It stuck with me because she was an actual Asian actress (actually Filipino, but it's close enough for points) because Disney didn't really have many minority female face characters. We ended up taking pictures with Mulan and the typical Asian peace-signs.

my wife and I went for our honeymoon years and years ago. My wife had an autograph book that she was having all the characters sign. When we went up to Tigger, my wife was wearing an eeyore shirt that said 'I was bounced'. Tigger pitched a hissy fit and wrote a whole story in her autograph book about how it was an accident and that he didn't mean to.... it was the hilarious and the highlight of the trip. Def. made for a special interaction.

When I interned at WDW in the 90's I shared a break room with Chip and Dale and Tigger. During the busiest time, they would have two people playing the same character so when one was 'off' the other was 'on'. One day as Tigger was going off, he ran into Tigger going on and they stopped and did a whole 'mirror' routine for a couple of minutes. Something no one but other CMs would ever see. Characters love their jobs and it always seems to show.

My favorite character interactions were with Cinderella, Merida, Tigger, and Goofy.

My first trip was this past January and so of course I had to meet Cinderella. I told her it was my first time visiting and that I was excited to see her castle and see her. (I just turned 22, and was the oldest girl in the meeting room, beside the CMs and the moms. Cindy made me feel just as welcomed as if I were a 5 year old on her first trip.) I was so nervous meeting her, but Cinderella was absolutely lovely and really set the tone for all of my character meets for my trip. Merida is my favorite princess and was bubbly and fun as you would think.

I was trying to take a selfie of me and Tigger at Crystal Palace and as I was trying to steady my camera, Tigger covered the lens with his paw. Like no pictures, please it's too early. haha. We both laughed. :P
