Marriage: The Trip Report - Update 2/28 - Final Thoughts & Link to Disneyland TR!

It's 6 AM.

Henry is crying.

I'd be crying too if I was awake at 6am on vacay.;)

He climbs into bed with us and feels hot.

We all fall back asleep until 7 AM. He wakes us up again, crying.

He definitely has a fever.

Oh dear, we've that experience as well. Poor little Henry.

Around 8 AM the fever breaks and Henry becomes SUPER perky and saying he felt good. We weren't sure what to do, so we continued to take it slow and monitor him. He was eager to "go have fun!" So we figured we'd give it a shot.

I'd have done the same...monitor and then reasses. Sounds like he gave you the fake out though.

That is why Rope Drop is best!

Yup. Rope drop, rope drop, rope drop.:thumbsup2

We headed straight for the 11:30 AM showing of Flights of Wonder. This had been on my list for several trips and I was determined this time!

Glad you made it! I would pass though. I have a slight fear of birds, stupid I know. But my best friend at college had an exotic bird at her parents house and it terrorized me! I was forever ducking and shrieking. So I wouldn't seek out the Flights of Wonder show but it does look amazing.:goodvibes

Eventually that turned into him telling me he was scared, and he wasn't being quiet about it all. So I picked him up and scooted to the back of the theater and he instantly started to cry and ask why we were leaving because he didn't want to.

:headache:

:laughing:Kids are sooo funny, aren't they? Poor Henry though, he was obviously still feeling off but didn't know what he wanted, poor little guy.

It's a great show - entertaining and educational. The guy on the right is a "tour guide" who somehow ended up on the stage and has a fear of birds, by the end of the show he's conquers his fear. He provides a bit of a storyline and humor to the show.

Hmm, maybe there is hope for me then!

While in line Henry said he wanted a hot dog.

No, nothing.

No, he just wanted food.

No, he wants chicken.

Okay, chicken it is.

Sigh.

Flame Tree BBQ is on my list too. And I'm laughing because I've had almost exact conversations with my youngest DD just like this one!

Joe and Henry went to grab a table while I stood in line for our food. By the time I got to the table he was in half meltdown mode.

Well, at least it wasn't YOU melting down, right?

Henry refuses to eat or do anything other than sit there and cry.

It's a fantastic meal.

:rotfl2:

Been there done THAT too! Yup, time to leave for sure.

He's DONE. And we can tell he's just not feeling well, so we pack up and he asks where we are going. When we tell him back to the hotel he meltssssssss. He doesn't want to go back.

Sigh, I so understand. You know the best thing is for him to rest but he fights you about leaving. Good times. Parenting is exhausting sometimes!

On the way out I notice the Jalapeno Cream Cheese Pretzel truck and hop in line quickly - another item on my list! :woohoo:

The girl two people in front of me got the last one.

I just can't win today!!!!

Geez, it just wasn't your day was it. Man.:headache:

Okay, let's just get OUT of the Animal Kingdom!!!!!

Good idea.

Henry slept until 4 and woke up crying. He still has a fever, but is begging, through his sobs to go and play in the sand. Eventually Joe takes him. I stayed in the room and started to clean up and pack. During this time I also realized that we had planned on going to the Chip & Dale Campfire over at Fort Wilderness tonight, but that was NOT gonna happen with Henry not feeling well. I was a bit disappointed, but again, what can you do? It's still on my To Do list and we WILL get there eventually!! :goodvibes

Aw, he just wanted to play! Poor thing. Bummer about the campfire too. Sometimes those best laid plans go right out the window. But you have the right attitude...keep on your to do list and you'll do it!

Great updates Brook.:thumbsup2

Hey there, stranger! I finally made it back, just in time for the end of the trip. I'll catch up starting tomorrow, but at least I got a little Henry fix tonight. Poor sick fella - and poor mom & dad!
Hasta manana!

I haven't been onto your TR in such a long time! I had so much to catch up on - thank goodness for those first page links!
Apart from a few days not going quite as planned it still looks like a great trip - and I've added a couple of your ideas to my to-do list too. Never before realised that you could rent surrey bikes at the Poly, and my guess is it's on the flat most of the way. We looked at surrey bikes at the boardwalk and chickened out after watching a few families working hard to get up and over the bridge by Epcot!
Glad to see pictures of BLT too - we've just bought into DVC and will be staying at BLT and BCV in the summer. We've stayed at the YC resort before but the Contemp and DVC is all new to us :)

Poor Henry sick on vaca. Several years ago my son got "sick" while at WDW. He must have been 11 or 12 at the time and I knew he felt terrible because he climbed into bed with me crying (he definately was too "cool" to climb in bed with his mommy at the time, LOL) We figured out in the morning he was having terrible allergies so after buying some REALLY expensive claritin at the gift shop he felt better by the next night. But I feel your pain, it is so tough to have a kiddo sick at the happiest place on earth because they don't want to be sick, they want to have fun.

Oh poor Henry. It is so hard when kids aren't feeling well and they just don't know what they want. Glad he was feeling better by the late afternoon, though. The trip was awesome and many memories were made.

OH dear, I'm several updated behind again. It has been such a pain to try and get on the DIS this week:badpc:.

I know I'm not going to remember everything I wanted to comment on.:sad2:

Your meal at Kona's looked great! I have been trying to decide on what to get, I had narrowed it down to the two meal you and Joe got. It was so great to see an actual picture of the dishes. I think I'm going to go with the one you got!:thumbsup2 Hopefully Dennis will get the other one so I can sample. It so great you got to meet up with Tim and family. Henry's first engagement, how exciting (even if it was short lived). Sorry things didn't work out for fireworks.

Good for you having a relaxing day at the resorts. So the bike ride was hair raising:scared1:. Helmets would be a real good idea especially for any kids riding up front. I'm so happy that you finally got to see Wished on Main Street. I'm so looking forward to the show before, since we have never seen it.

Sorry the last day didn't go as planned and Henry was sick. We put off seeing Flights of Wonder for several trip, once we saw it, it has become a favorite. I'm glad Henry was back to his old self by the end of the day.

Sorry your last day didn't go so well. I gotta say, the only time we ever had anything like that happen was my niece had an ear ache when we got off the plane. My DSIL called her dr. and they called a pharmacy nearby and got her some meds, which they had delivered to the WL.
As my husband likes to say when things don't go well... or as planned.... "Some days are like that... even in Australia."

And much to the happiness of our little man and his parents, there was a play area with SAND here in Pixie Hollow!!! What a fantastic addition. Henry dug and played for a good 30 minutes!

While Henry played I wandered through Pixie Hollow a bit more to soak in the details. It was truly beautiful!

That is one clever fairy house! Does that have to do with any of the movies?

The random gears and the skate for a fairy house are representing the lost things from the fairy movies. :tink: Tink collects lost things that wash up on the shore from "The Mainland," she uses them for her inventions. :) Having a girl helps me to know these things. :rolleyes1 :goodvibes

Oooh I would LOVE to ride a surrey bike, though my daydream is to take a spin around the Boardwalk! We are very go-go-go all the time though, so who knows if that daydream will become a reality. I admire your slow paced day, but in the moment, I'm not sure if we could manage to slow ourselves down!

I love that special moment you got to share with Henry taking in wishes. I had a similar experience - we walked out full from our meal at CP and wishes was just starting, we watched from the front porch area of CP and I held my dd up so she could see. It was just magical getting to share something so beautiful with her! :lovestruc

I will do replies, I just wanted to get an update done since the DIS is finally working for me!!!! :)

The day has come.

It's time to leave.

We weren't ready to go. Two weeks was a LOVELY trip, but honestly....it wasn't long enough! I've come to think that no time is truly long enough.

Unless I took one of those European month-long vacations! :thumbsup2 (or like Anita & Marc!)

ANYWAY! Good morning! It's Saturday, March 12. We woke up at 7:30

IMG1279-L.jpg

and decided to not rush around the room trying to pack things, but instead got ready and went down to the Contempo Cafe for a nice hot breakfast.

It's the last day, I frantically take pictures of details I wasn't sure I had captured yet!

Good Morning MK!

Me like.

IMG1298-L.jpg
I just LOVED this feeling of walking into the CR Tower!!

IMG1299-L.jpg

IMG1302-L.jpg

We got there before 9 AM, and it was busy, but not too bad. However, they DID run out of coffee...and that isn't good! Not that the coffee tastes great to begin with, but it's hot, brown and caffeinated, so I suck it down. This morning I had to settle for decaf :scared1:...which was WORSE. It was so bad I dumped it down the drain. And I am not one to waste coffee!

Breakfast was good.

Mine:

Joe's:
IMG1305-L.jpg

I'm pretty sure we both shared with Henry.

Well, I should say we tried to share with Henry. In his toddler-way, he refused to eat anything.

"I don't want anything. I just want Epcot."

Honestly, that is what he was staying at breakfast! And who's to argue??? Let Mom and Dad shove the food down and let's get rollin' then!

IMG1306-L.jpg

IMG1308-L.jpg

Unfortunately, before we could head to Epcot we had to do that nasty task of packing and taking our bags to airline check-in.

When we got to the airline desk it was a madhouse! We waited in line, but they couldn't check us in because we didn't have assigned seats. :confused3 Ooookay. We thought that might be due to Henry's ticket being separate from Joe's and mine (due to airline credits). So, I stepped to the side and called the airline. On hold for 10 minutes, a representative answers and can't hear me. :headache: So, I call again. This rep can hear me, but her computer messes up and it takes forever and a day. Finally her computer is working and....

She can't help us.

Looking back now, it's comical. Henry was itchin' to get to Epcot, 4 million people at the airline check-in so I can hardly hear. It's our last day and we are all just wanting a "magical moment" of some sort and we literally just spent almost an hour trying to get this done...only for it to be a complete waste of time.

In the moment though, it wasn't funny! I was so frustrated. We are told we would have to go to the airline desk at the airport. She could check in Joe and I, but not Henry. The desk at the CR now has 356,799 people in it and chances are they still won't be able to help us since we don't have seats and we all have separate reservations!

So what did we do?

We left the airline desk and dropped our bags at Bell Services and hopped the monorail to Epcot!

Screw it! We will deal with it LATER!

As soon as we walk into the park Henry requests "the ball" It's a 20 minute line but cruises right along. While in line I see a woman hop the chain. A guy tries to call her on it but she looks at him square in the face and says, "That's fine." And she DID have kids with her, who she also encouraged to cut in line.

Classy!

Yellow-tights co-worker. He rarely gets any love, so I had to take a pic!

After our spin through history we went into Innoventions

IMG1353-L.jpg

We had to spend time with the firetruck!

IMG1359-L.jpg

And in the Where's the Fire? house

I also grabbed a FastPass for Kim Possible, as per Henry's request!

IMG1361-L.jpg

This picture makes me miss Epcot.

IMG1362-L.jpg

FastPasses for Joe and I! Henry was still not interested.

McQueen had made it! No Mater on our trip though. I think they brought him out a week or two later.

IMG1367-L.jpg

It was lunch time and Joe and Henry had one goal:

IMG1369-L.jpg

IMG1372-L.jpg

Despite the crazy long line!

IMG1373-L.jpg

Hello pretty. (thank you to Cynthia for introducing us to this beauty!)

IMG1374-L.jpg

Henry's dessert

IMG1375-L.jpg

Joe's - we had to compare this to our local bakery's Napoleon. It was VERY different, both were good, but we prefer our local one!

IMG1376-L.jpg

Mine. Amazing!

However! I wanted something different for lunch, so the boys got sandwiches and desserts, while I went and grabbed

IMG1377-L.jpg

and they met me in the UK where we fought off aggressive birds trying to steal our lunch. Our Kim Possible FP was for the UK, so it worked out just right!

what I wouldn't give for that sandwich today!!!!!!!!!

The fish and chips look really good. Everytime we walk by we are so hot that it just doesn't sound appealing so I've never tried them. Someday :goodvibes

UGH on the airline check-in, we had nightmares like that last trip coming back, I swear it took me an hour 2 days in a row (we were flaying back in 2 separate groups). Especially given how early DME gets you there, saying screw it hopefully was a fine thing to do!

Great chapter title! Henry's expressing that made the airline fiasco even more aggravating, I'm sure. I'm glad you eventually decided to just deal with it later.

It's the last day, I frantically take pictures of details I wasn't sure I had captured yet!

Oh, I don't know anybody who's ever done that!

While in line I see a woman hop the chain. A guy tries to call her on it but she looks at him square in the face and says, "That's fine." And she DID have kids with her, who she also encouraged to cut in line.

Classy!

People. :sad2:

Obviously the guy showed a lot of restraint in not pummeling her.

I really don't like fish that much, but I do like the fish and chips in the UK. Makes me hungry looking at it.

Yikes! What a pain in the behind at the airline counter. I would have been so annoyed.

I have never tried the Fish and Chips from there. I was born and raised in England and I have never had anything that can compare. I have wanted to try them, just never got around to it.

Mmmmm...That chocolate eclair looks yummy! I do not eat dessert, but I sure would try a bite of that.

What a frustrating morning! I'm so glad you blew it off and headed to Epcot. It was a beautiful morning.

I don't like line jumpers, not one bit. I truly believe what goes around comes around and someday she will get repaid for jumping the line.

Lunch looks so good. Every trip I say I'm going to try the fish and chip and I haven't had it yet. More reason to keep going back.

Wow, Henry saying "I don't want anything. I just want Epcot." You certainly have trained him well. :rotfl:

Bummer it's your last day but I'm still so jealous you had two whole weeks.

All the food pics are making me hungry!
