Honeymoon Lovers and Seafood Lovers take on Disney Dining! - dining plan analysis

I LOVE your reviews so far! I also love your username and your major, I so badly wanted to be a librarian when I was younger but all the schooling intimidated me! So I have great respect for you! Congrats on your marriage, you're such a cute couple! :goodvibes

Congrats on your wedding! You both make a lovely couple. :)

Loving your review so far! Kouzzina looks delish, and I'm definitely looking forward to going here! The s'mores cupcake looks incredible too. Can't wait for my next trip to Disney! :goodvibes

Thanks for the updates.

Thank you! Yes, everything we tried at the boardwalk was a win in terms of food!

1900 PF and Kouzzina are both places we haven't tried. I've been reading positive reviews of Kouzzina lately on the board so it's on my list to try. I also want to go to 1900 PF to meet Mad Hatter and Alice and try their famous strawberry soup.

The strawberry soup was the best part!

So excited for your Kouzzina review! We are eating there for breakfast and dinner (never been before) and I think I might order the threesome sampler, looks excellent!

Great, I'm looking forward to hearing what you think! Also curious about breakfast there.

So glad you loved Kouzzina as much as we do! Aren't those little donuts amazing?????:thumbsup2

Yes, so good! Glad to meet another Kouzzina fan ;)

Enjoying your reviews, can't wait for the rest.

Thank you! :goodvibes

Excellent review of Kouzzina. I considered making a ressie here on our honeymoon trip but neither of us are fans of greek food. I only wanted to go because I watch Iron Chef a lot and adore Cat Cora! ;) But having said that the trio that your hubby got looks great! I've never had lamb before and I would consider eating that burger, it looked so good.

I watch Iron Chef a lot too so that definitely helped to convince me to go!

Your meal sounds fantastic! On our trip in 2009, I let DBF pick Nine Dragons to eat at. Augh-- his choice was not as successful as your DH's!

Yeah, I haven't heard great things about Nine Dragons, which is a shame since I love good Chinese food! DH also picked Chefs de France for this trip - he ended up loving it, while it was probably my least favorite TS meal of the trip :confused3

Love the review of Kouzzina! I'm like you and a bit hesitant to try this place because of the menu. However, after your review I may have to give it a try.

It also helped that we had gotten the dining plan for free - we could be a bit adventurous knowing we weren't actually paying for the food! We actually ended up with a few CS left over so if we really hated something we could have just used those :thumbsup2

Yeah, I am ready to be done with the schooling part and I really want to get into actually being a librarian! I'll be done in June but then it's just fingers crossed about finding a job, obviously it's hard to find a job in any field right now but it's particularly tough in libraries. What did you end up doing?

And thank you! :goodvibes

Hi
You guys are a really cute couple!! I love the loukoumades. There's a Greek fair near my house every September and my DH and I always get them. I've never had them with the sauces, (which look delicious) but they also sprinkle chopped nuts on them. I'd like to go to Kouzzinas just to get them!! Great reviews!!

Great reviews so far! I can't wait to see what else you tried!

Congrats on your marriage. You guys are adorable!

I may have to break down and give Kouzzina a try for dinner. I had breakfast there earlier this year and wasn't impressed. Although I think a lot of that had to do with the lackluster service.

I'm enjoying your reviews! Keep 'em coming!

Yeah, I've heard mixed things on here about the service at Kouzzina. I guess we were just fortunate that we had a wonderful server as well as great food! It was also pretty empty when we were there, so they weren't overwhelmed or anything.

I am intrigued by the Kouzzina review. The menu looks very odd to me, but maybe it is because I was a huge Spoodles fan and I miss it. Enjoying the reviews so far!

Great reviews so far! We did the DxDp in May and we had a great time. Next May we are going OOP (unless some free dining magically appears) so we are being a little more careful about where we are going.

Can't wait to read more!

Pizza Planet

For our CS lunch at HS we decided to go with Pizza Planet, well aware that the choices in HS are somewhat limited. But we both love Toy Story so we thought it would be fun to go for the theming!

Outside:

Inside:

I ordered the pepperoni pizza (came with caesar salad):

P1000426.jpg

DH ordered the plain pizza (also came with salad):

P1000427.jpg

We both gave the pizza a 6 out of 10. It was just okay, typical CS pizza which was what we were expecting. The caesar salad was actually better than I expected, that was nice and refreshing.

For dessert we both got the chocolate chip cookie:

P1000428.jpg

DH didn't even eat his because he ate his whole pizza and part of mine, so we saved his for later and I had about half of mine. I gave it a 7 out of 10. It's a basic chocolate chip cookie, but it was surprisingly soft - softer than I expected, which was nice.

Overall we gave Pizza Planet a 6 out of 10. It's just okay, mediocre pizza, but next time we'll probably give something else a shot. I've heard the sandwiches at Starring Rolls are pretty good though there's not much variety.

We used two CS credits for this meal.

Pepperoni Pizza: $8.29
Plain Pizza: $7.79
Chocolate chip cookie: $1.99
Chocolate chip cookie: $1.99
Root beer: $2.19
Bottled Water: $2.50

Total without tax: $24.75

Later on in the afternoon I wanted to try a cupcake from Starring Rolls, and Jason wanted a frozen lemonade. So we went to the stand to get one - and then the CM there wouldn't our snack credit! She told us it was on the mouse. Just a little bit of pixie dust for our honeymoon :wizard:

P1000444.jpg

I don't remember what stand this was from, but it was on Hollywood Boulevard on the way to Rockin' Roller Coaster. It was great! A perfect combo of sweet and sour just like lemonade should be. Very refreshing.

And then I got my cupcake! I went with the butterfinger:

P1000445.jpg

This is so massive! :scared1: I really enjoyed it but could only eat about half of it. I did prefer the S'mores cupcake. The main issue with this one is that under all of that butterfingers is tons of vanilla icing. I'm a chocolate lover so I could've handled it if it was chocolate, but I don't love vanilla that much so I was eh about the frosting. Still good though :goodvibes

I thought the same about the menu. The dish I got was pretty basic if you like seafood, nothing too fancy. The cinnamon chicken is quite good too, and not as intense or unusual as some of the other dishes. I unfortunately never got to experience Spoodles!

I'm thinking our next trip will be the same! I'm going to do the numbers at the end but there was so much food we couldn't eat so I don't think it will ever pay for us to do the DDP - I do like the convenience of not worrying about money and what I order while on vacation though. Unless of course free dining comes along again ;)

First.......Congratulations!!!! We've been married 17 years, have 4 children and everyday I thank God for my wife and children.

Second, one thing I've learned at Disney.......and I only get 1 vacation a year for a bit over a week.....TAKE A TAXI. :thumbsup2

Third, I'm on board for the rest of your report, enjoyed it so far.

My DD's want to try Pizza Planet next time. Looks like fun, even with the average food.

I am so jealous of the cupcake. I SO wanted to get the peanut butter one, but when I went by Starring Rolls at 3ish, they were already closed!! :scared1:

How in ALL my planning, I missed that info, I will never know. So this next trip I will be prepared! The picture of the s'mores cupcake has me thinking that I should do a comparison...you know, for research. :lmao:

It was all the rules for the dining plan that is a turn off for us. Example: Rose and Crown: when we go back I want the soup and dessert. That's it. Also, our youngest wanted more of the adult meals. Sometimes we like to get a few appies or such and share family style. So OOP for us, unless it is free.

Can't wait to read more!!

I'm glad you got some pixie dust and were able to have the frozen lemonade on the mouse!

If you're a chocolate lover you have to try the chocolate peanut butter finger cupcake on a future trip - it was amazing!

Thank you! :goodvibes Yeah, a taxi is a good idea! We'll probably only make it to Disney every other year at most, so the "splurge" is definitely worth it. ;)

Yeah, those rules on the dining plan are kind of annoying. There were definitely times when I would have preferred an appetizer rather than dessert, or just an appetizer and dessert. I usually don't eat much so I think I overate as a result of the plan.

There are so many great cupcakes around Disney that I keep seeing on these boards!

The chocolate peanut butter cupcake is definitely the one on my list to try for next time! Man, I wish I had a cupcake right now... :cloud9:

We've eaten at Pizza Planet before mostly for DH because he's a huge Toy Story fan! We found the pizzza to be okay as well. Nothing great but not horrible either. I enjoyed the salad as well and was surprised that it came with one. However when we went the cookies were rock hard and I didnt even end up finishing mine :confused3 Maybe we had an off day.

We know there is a very distinct chance we will be going to Pizza Planet while in HS due to the kiddies love of Toy Story so I appreciate the review. I had figured while DH got their food in there,I would run to Starring Rolls for sammies&CUPCAKES!!!I am soooo looking forward to the Butterfinger cupcake so thanks for giving me a pic to drool over!!:lovestruc

Yeah, I think a lot of places at Disney can be up or down depending on the day. Reading these reviews I've seen experiences at some places with the same dish that were the complete opposite of mine :confused3

Good plan! Pizza Planet is definitely fun for the theming, but the food can't live up to a butterfinger cupcake! ;)

Sci-Fi Dine In

Dinner was at the Sci-Fi: I ate here with my family when I was 8 years old but haven't been back since. My brother and I had so much fun here so I was excited to go back.

P1000449.jpg

When we got there we checked in and one of the CMs at the podium was super nice and friendly. He had just started working and was clearly very excited to be there, and entertained us with stories and stuff while we waited, even though it was only about 5 minutes. We were soon led to the front seat of a car and were settling in.

P1000451.jpg

P1000456.jpg

It got a little chilly in there so I put my sweatshirt on. I think this was the only restaurant we were in all week where I actually used it. To begin with, we ordered drinks. I had originally wanted to try one of the alcoholic "milkshakes" but was still a little full from the cupcake at Starring Rolls and I didn't want to order anything too heavy. So I just got a vanilla coke. Jason went for a regular strawberry milkshake:

P1000453.jpg

For my entree I had the shrimp pasta (Bowtie Pasta and Sautéed Shrimp with
Olive Oil, Garlic, Basil, and fresh Tomatoes topped with Parmesan):
P1000454.jpg

I gave this an 8.5 out of 10. It was quite tasty. I'd read a really negative review of it in someone's dining report on here so I was hesitant to order it, but I was pleasantly surprised. There was nothing bad about it. The tomatoes in here were really fresh, you could taste that, and that really made the dish. Yum, I'd definitely order it again.

DH went with the beef and bleu cheese salad (no longer on the menu here):
P1000455.jpg

He gave it an 8 out of 10. He said it was tasty, but it was pretty much exactly what it looked like: beef and lettuce. A little plain, but still tasted good.

We skipped dessert here because we were both full and we were also paying for this one OOP, so no sense overstuffing ourselves!

Overall we give the Sci-Fi an 8 out of 10. The clips were fun and entertaining, and the food was good. Not spectacular, but very good.

We paid OOP for this meal.

Shrimp Pasta: $21.99
Vanilla Coke: $3.19
Beef and Blue Salad: $16.49
Strawberry Shake: $4.69

Total with Tax: $49.38
Total with Tip: $57.72

We did a few more rides, and then decided to go get a seat for Fantasmic (we'd never seen it before). Before we went in I grabbed a Strawberry Banana Smoothie at a stand outside of Rockin' Roller Coaster:

P1000460.jpg

This was just eh. If you're thinking of a smoothie as something creamy, maybe yogurt-y - no. This was some sort of fruit or fruit flavoring with ground up ice. You could taste the ice chunks when you drank it, so not all that pleasant.

Once we found seats I decided that I wanted a popcorn, but since I wanted to use a snack credit to pay for it I had to go wait at the stand (rather than the vendors that were walking around). This was super crowded! But since it was either standing and waiting or sitting and waiting, so I waited. When I got up there and put in my request for just one popcorn, she handed it to me and again told me it was on the Mouse! :woohoo: So at least I got it for free!

It was typical popcorn, definitely yummy though. I forgot to take a picture until it was almost all gone:

P1000462.jpg

As soon as I sat down DH decided he wants cotton candy and pays for it OOP from a vendor :headache: If he'd decided that earlier I could have gotten him one at the stand with our snack credits! (We never did end up using all of them). Oh well!

Just got caught up! Sci fi vanilla coke sounds good, lol!!! :lmao: Ur DH's strawberry shake looks good too! & thanks for the tip on the smoothie.I'll stick w/ my blue ras slush.:goodvibes Glad you enjoyed ur meal @ SF. :thumbsup2 I love fantasmic! It is such an awesome show!!!

We did Sci-Fi in May, for lunch. My youngest and I split that same pasta dish. I had also read some not great reviews for it, but was pleasantly surprised. It was good. Even splitting with no appies, we could not finish the whole thing. They were really nice about the splitting and brought it out already on two plates.
