Rumor of future discounts

What exactly do you think this discount will be ? I was reading on another thread and they said a discount came out on Aug 15 th last year. Does anyone know what the discount was last year ? Thinking it may be the same as last year ?

Free dining was released August 15th last year for several dates in 2011.

Called my TA today and mention that I heard disney is coming out with a new promtion on 8/13/11 and she confirmed the date and told me she could not say any more than that or she could loose her job. So i will be waiting for the 13 th or the monday following it.:thumbsup2

This is awesome news!!!! I'll give it a banana dance as well!:banana::banana::banana::banana:

LOVING this Rumor...I hope. Figmentchick ~ did you go ahead and make that reservation at BVS???

No, haven't made the resevation yet. Hubby actually said last night that, no matter what, he would prefer to stay at POR. :scared1: I said "WHAT?!?" Especially considering all this extra leg work I have been doing, but besides that, I can save us $1,200. UGH!!!! Sometimes, I am so baffled......

:) But, I have a plan, I might go ahead and book to get the rate at BVS. Trip Advisor did not have one single bad review (except the breakfast and I'm not worried about that - we're granola bar people) and there is nothing reported on any bedbugs website. So, two pluses in its favor. Not to mention the extra space we would have.

So.....back to the planning board with the spreadsheets I go. Thanks for asking!!!!

Don't give up on the discounts. I think they will still continue to come out, maybe not as they have in the past, but I think there will still be some. :3dglasses Keep watching....

feelin' sick to my stomach! Let's hope FD comes out for December soon! Worst case, off premises this year. As for 2012, Hot Flash issue or not, I guess we'll plan Hurricaine Season travel if FD is offered next year. I can't stand the unknown!! Anyway, headin' to our Beach House tomorrow and looking forward to the OBX for a week. Here's hopin for good news soon!

It's strange that they would announce it on a Saturday - doesn't that put all the TA's who don't work weekends at a disadvantage? I thought that was why Disney didn't make announcements on weekends.:confused3

Happy to hear there's a deal coming though...whatever it is:banana::banana::banana:

I don't think Disney cares about whether some travel agents are at a disadvantage... BUT.... I really don't believe there will be a Saturday announcement.

It all still sounds like speculation to me (educated speculation), that the current room only discounts expire on August 13th.... It's traditionally a time that new discounts are offered.... so it would be a wise bet, that fall discounts will be announced at around that time. I'd still expect to see it on the 15th.

I don't pretend to know all the inner workings, but I suppose it's possible that travel agents get a couple days of advance notice to start laying plans. Maybe 1 of the many travel agents on the board can shed light on that.

I'll start giving more credibility to specific rumors as we get closer to the 13th/15th. I doubt that front-line CMs really know anything specific at this point, it sounds like they are just guessing... just like we are.

Oh I was hoping for a 40 or 45 % off deluxe resorts.

45% would be a record... It's not happening.
40% has been offered in the past, but I wouldn't count on it again. I'd be quite pleased with 30-35%.

Last year, there were 3 offers: Free dining, up to $500 gift card, or room only discounts.

Lately the rumors have been "leaked" Friday or Saturday via CMs, travel agents, and/or the big planning sites (free dining was talked about on the Touring Plans blog, for example, a couple days before it was officially released) with the code going live on Monday. So the 13th feels credible to me, not for the opening of booking but for when TAs and others will have the info on the discount that will be bookable 8/15. That's the weekend I've been waiting on all along, because if you ignore the free dining extension as an outlier those are the dates past discount releases and established patterns point to.

And of course it is a weekend I'll be spending almost entirely away from my computer! :rotfl:

I agree...I think on the DIS we will know the code from travel agents or it will be the day it opens for Disney Visa, and it will be the first day to use or first day for the general public on the 15th or 16th.

I consider that to be sort of a unique circumstance since that was actually the SECOND time they offered free dining during that timeframe.

I think Disney would just LOVE to make all reservations non-refundable (witness the recent PIN codes people got for the mystery resort and non-refundable payment due up front) so they can reel in as many people as possible up front, then fill in with discounts as needed without having to honor the discount for all the already existing reservations.Good luck with that though.

I have thought for sometime that we might at some point in the future see Disney's new promotions be for "New Reservations Only" anything is possible afterall

Back when the %off room discounts that ended on March 27th, the announcement stated the promotion was due to start on Monday Jan 3rd but it was in the CRO system at 7am on Saturday Jan 1, I know since I happened to be one of the ones that called after reading on the DIS here of people being able to book it late Friday evening, of course I read that too late to call on Friday Night.

Could be that is what the TA is counting on happening again this time around?

After all the games they've been playing with PIN codes this summer, NOTHING would surprise me. But if they do that, I'd just cancel my existing reservation and make a new one.

I bet their first step would be to give all reservations a cancellation penalty. But then people would be far less likely to make the reservation in the first place.

You know this is frustrating them to no end! :rotfl:

I think this would be short sighted on their end. Do some people book and then apply a discount: yes. But at the same time, some people book and hope for a discount and when it doesn't pan out they are already disney dreaming and will go anyway. Plus right now they can tell people to go ahead and book and if a discount comes out they can apply it, but people may forget about it or think it is not worth their time to keep checking. I think we on the DIS forget that the average WDW tourist doesn't pay attention to all the ins and outs of disney discounts.

I absolutely agree. But you know it just kills the Disney bean counters every time a dollar is left on the table. Little do they know that many only book in expectation of the disocunt and never would book otherwise........ and in fact might cancel and go offisite without the discount.

This is us right now. Waiting, waiting, waiting. If FD came out for December I would be there with bells on, probably even upgrading to DDP from QS because we're planning on a value. Otherwise we might stay off site much cheaper and eat on and off-site OOP. Loss for Disney in that case and I have to imagine those same bean counters know that.

They absolutely do know that. And they have estimates of expected cancellations. I have no clue how many people there are like that. But if the number is small enough.... 1-2%... Disney may simply not care.

Exactly, I can't tell you how many people I've spoken to about discounts that I know are going to DW when there are discounts. They just look at me with a blank stare. When I finish explaining to them that I haven’t paid for food for the last few years, they almost don't believe me haha. Of course you try to help these people out but they either refuse to believe you or think it’s too good to be true haha. Whatev, I can only lead the horse to water right?

Do you know how much this upgrade is? I have been helping a first timer plan a trip. :goodvibes

Quick is...34.99. The regular plan is 51.54-53.54 depending on season I believe and the deluxe is 85.52-89.52. If you're booking a value you get the Quick Service, Moderate is Quick I think (someone correct me I can't remember), and Deluxe is a regular plan. I think you just make up the difference between what you get for free and what the cost of the plan you want is.

edited to add: Oh those are 2012. The 2011 is 34.99 Quick Service. 45.99-47.99 for Regular. And 78.99 for Deluxe.

Thank you so much for your help. :thumbsup2

This is EXACTLY why we have been staying at the Swan/Dolphin. We are paying $129 per night for a Deluxe Hotel ON DISNEY PROPERTY. I don't care about the Free dining so it works for us.

But you can still get GOOD discounts by searching for them! While I love staying in the Disney Resorts I can't justify spending that kind of $ when I can get the same vacation staying at the above!
