Rumor of future discounts

So many are saying they can't wait til just 6 weeks out, however, that doesn't mean 6 weeks out from every date...like the PP said...6 weeks out would only affect those traveling the first of October...LIKE ME!! However, if discounts are announced "6 weeks out" for FALL...then anything after Oct 4 or so would not be affected by a change fee, as there will be time to rebook or change before the 45 day mark...either way, if free dining IS offered, I will be making the change to that discount and upgraded both kids to adult dining, and my total package will go up $35...but that will give both kids adult credits, so they will probably split TS meals, giving us EXTRA TS credits, AND I won't have to pay a change fee!

I'm actually quite torn on wether or not I want FD offered, as I am booked under Kids Stay & Play free...and maybe if it is not offered for my time period there will be slightly lighter crowds...but I think I will take the exchange, as i KNOW my kids (especially DD9) will NOT be happy with kids meal choices, and would opt for an adult meal at virtually every meal. With having kids play free promo..I would totaly lose the deal if I upgraded kids to adults for meal plan because I would have to buy adult tix,....and those are not free!! :wizard:

Smitch425 may be right about the change fee logic. The CM didn't say discounts would be announced in two weeks, he said OCTOBER discounts might be announced six weeks out. Following that timetable, November discounts would come out in mid-September. Certainly, you would think anyone who will cancel a reservation if they don't get a discount will have done so that close to the travel dates. Gives them a better idea of who is coming regardless of deals. And just like a cruise ship, the closer you get to the date, the better the rate gets for the rooms they have lots of. For those resorts near capacity, I wouldn't expect them to be included in the offer. So you may get a deal by waiting, but it may not be the hotel or offer (%off,FD, etc) you wanted.

I doubt Disney would keep offering different discounts every few weeks for coming as they haven't before...but who knows? :confused3 Maybe it is all part of their master plan!

I took it as fall discounts will be announced in 2 wks. The comment about announcing discounts 6 wks b4 is meant 6 wks b4 that season. So, 6 wks b4 fall season, 6 wks b4 summer season, etc. Not 6 wks b4 each specific month.

He might have mentioned Oct specifically b/c that's when her trip was booked for & there were already disc offered up to Oct. 1st. So the next set of disc will be for early Oct-Dec or thru Feb & will be announced 6 wks b4 that season starts. (mid Aug)
OR maybe they are changing it up completely & you can only book w/a disc 6 weeks b4 your specific trip, but I think that would be difficult.

OK, I am posting this here and on the October Code Watch, so if you read it twice I apologize.

*****RUMOR ALERT*****

I called and spoke to Tab (don't you just love the names they choose?) last night. I called because, quite seriously, I am considering cancelling my Disney reservation for POR and switching to an off-site hotel. There are pros and cons associated with this, but, considering I can save more than $1,000 if I stay off site, I'm considering it.

Anyway.....I asked if I loose my trip insurance should I cancel. He said yes (which I already knew). And then he asked why I was considering cancelling. I told him because I can save much more money by staying off site and, yes, I know it doesn't have the Disney perks, but Disney hasn't released any discounts or free dining for October yet.

Then he said something that made me very happy: "Do you think you can hold off cancelling your current reservation for two weeks?" I said, well, it's not like the rate at the hotel is going to change, so yeah, I guess, but why? He told me that it was his opinion that discounts for October would be released in about two weeks.....six weeks prior to the dates of travel. We talked about how Disney was cutting back on discounts and he said that's where this six weeks out thing is coming from. He agreed that Disney was cutting back, but that does not mean cutting out....that they are just releasing the discounts and offers so much closer to the dates of travel than they have in the past.

I hope this makes everyone a little happier today (I know I went to sleep happier) and that our codes are released soon!!!!!!

Sorry if you already said, but this is for THIS October...Right?

This is what I got out of it. I don't think he meant just for October dates or her dates in particular. I think he meant for fall, which is going right along with all the other rumors for mid August we've heard.

Well, Disney's desire to do away with the discounts does not mean it can happen. I suppose they certainly can decide to settle for some pain to make it happen, but I'm not convinced yet they will settle for those lower occupancy rates that would result.

Maybe they can WILL the economy into full recovery??????? It was months ago that they made their first statement about wanting to wean everyone off the discounts. If the economy had come roaring back in that time, I might think they could make that happen. But since then, things have gotten worse, not better.

Well, mid August fits in with my best guess. Re:general public room discounts.
On 8/14/08, they released room discounts for 9/28/08-12/23/08
On 7/27/09, they released room discounts for 10/4/09-12/24/09
On 8/16/10, they released room discounts for 10/3/10-12/31/10
(source - mousesavers.com)

Usually it seems passholders/visa people get a few days lead time for their offers before it goes general public.

what was the discount each time? last year in particular was it free dining or percentage off the room?

Called my TA today and mention that I heard disney is coming out with a new promtion on 8/13/11 and she confirmed the date and told me she could not say any more than that or she could loose her job. So i will be waiting for the 13 th or the monday following it.:thumbsup2

Those where % off rooms, as that is what I was interested in. The mousesavers site lists all discounts, when they were offered, whom they were offered to (Visa holders, Florida residents, general public, etc.) and what type (free dinning, % off room, 4 for 3, etc.) for '08 up to the present, if you're curious about the free dinning offers timing type in historical discounts in their search area.

Maybe they are thinking that like someone else said, non dis people who book say 60-90 days may just book and call it a day not looking for discounts or they may think that since they are booked they can't change to a discount. Also, wasn't the last deal for a short time frame like end of Aug - end of Sept? Maybe they will start releasing discounts later (6 weeks out) and for a shorter period of time, say, Oct. 1 - Nov 1. and then six weeks out offer Nov. 1 - Dec. 1 etc.? At this point I think Disney has been doing things a little different then in previous years so only time will tell. I'll be on the look out and hoping for something in two more weeks!!

Thanks for sharing!!

I consider that to be sort of a unique circumstance since that was actually the SECOND time they offered free dining during that timeframe.

I think Disney would just LOVE to make all reservations non-refundable (witness the recent PIN codes people got for the mystery resort and non-refundable payment due up front) so they can reel in as many people as possible up front, then fill in with discounts as needed without having to honor the discount for all the already existing reservations.

Good luck with that though.

It's strange that they would announce it on a Saturday - doesn't that put all the TA's who don't work weekends at a disadvantage? I thought that was why Disney didn't make announcements on weekends.:confused3

Happy to hear there's a deal coming though...whatever it is:banana::banana::banana:

What exactly do you think this discount will be ? I was reading on another thread and they said a discount came out on Aug 15 th last year. Does anyone know what the discount was last year ? Thinking it may be the same as last year ?
