Resort Changers--The Saga Continues.....

Meant to add ...

Magic: That is so cool that you were able to see the space launch. Yes, humbling and amazing sums it up. :thumbsup2

By booking the Deluxe room you automatically get CL too? Interesting. I would like to be able to bring my niece and my grand niece and having the extra room would be nice.

Yep! Remember last year when we checked all the different resort Deluxe rooms and WL was more than BC? Maybe because it is an MK resort.:confused3 Nice rooms though - some (maybe all?) are at the end of the wings facing the lake - or at least that's where we would have asked SN to block. :thumbsup2

(I just checked rack rate August & Sept - in order to find availability- dates for the heck of it and WL Deluxe room is $555 weekdays, $656 weekends and BC is $540 wkdys and $550 weekends, BWI $600 weekdays, $610 weekends)

How many yc/bc fans do we have? I can't say whether we are or aren't...because we've never stayed there....just lurkers on the yc/bc property. Every trip we do venture over and eat at one of the restaurants, but my mk resorts call me back every time:confused3
Hi Heather. Like my side sig shows, I'm on a quest stay at all the resorts. I love all the resorts! Yes I do get stuck on some favorites more than others ;), but that's ok!. I love staying at every MK resort for all the reasons that PPs mention. And I'm betting on getting back to Poly for Aug 2012. :lovestruc That said, I also really enjoy BC/YC. Not having children, I find that we spend more time at Epcot and HS area nowadays if we are at Disney for more than a couple days. We've stayed 3x at BC, and 2x at YC. BC & YC share a workout room, activities as well as most dining. The exceptions...YC with Yachtsman Steakhouse, and BC with Cape May buffet...mimic the ambiance of each resort. BC has a active family vibe, while YC is very quiet and strives for a more refined vibe. I like them both. We also enjoy winding down at night by strolling boardwalk area. Food for thought...if you don't stay CL, YC beds are much, much better than BC beds. I have absolutely no idea why. CL beds are the same at both resort.
I try to base my resort picks based on the main purpose of my stay (i.e. Holiday candlelight processional = a bc stay; relaxation = mk resort; etc). And living close makes all the difference for me because I can get a fix if i feel I've missed a certain "feeling" for too long. ::yes::

just curious...when do yall think October discounts will come out? Or will disney even offer any at all? Looks like the most recent goes through oct. 1. October use to be a slack month, but it has really picked up over the past few years. Guess people like us with fall breaks are going now.
Here's some historical data from 2010 for discounts into October. So it looks like maybe only a few more weeks to wait :). The 2010 discount release was as follows:
for stays: 10/3/10-12/31/10
type of discount: Room-only discount for general public
release date: 8/16/10
may reserve until: Exp 11/21/10

i'm getting in on the multi-quoting earlier today so that i don't end-up with the "too many images in your post" alert;) Go figure, i had too many smileys the other day. :):):):):):):):):):)

nope, no changes since the last time i changed wayyyyy back two days ago. :lmao: good one, wdwkook!

The BC lobby and lounge (from what i've read) are chaotic and crowded when compared with the yc. The bc attracts more families than the yc so that's probably the main difference. The bc is also marginally closer to epcot which i think also makes it more appealing to some. And, I think more people prefer the room style. Total agreement on these points. YC does offer the boat launch dock to HS and Epcot right out the door which we enjoy. We love all the boat transportation at DIS, and utilize it often. And we love the last YC refurb. :thumbsup2 My one big peeve that I've already raised about O'Hana: Cape May Buffet at BC and O'Hana at Poly makes each beautiful lobby so chaotic... it bums me out a little. :guilty: But it doesn't keep me from staying at either resort. :cloud9:

magic....thanks for your info on por...looks like i'm going to have to try it. Sooooo many people say it's a great mod. I've actually booked mods in the past, then end up changing. It's so very silly, i know. Dh really doesn't care where we stay...well kind of;) do you know what they did to the rooms at por? Queen beds, yet? Yes, queen beds. :thumbsup2 Here's a POR link with resort and room info. When you scroll to the June 11 entry, it shows the planned refurb schedule: http://www.portorleans.org/rehab.php

Hi all. We returned from our mini-trip tonight. I see I have lots to catch up on!

Here's a few photo before WDWKOOK rips my head off :rotfl:
Dani, thank you!!!! They are both getting so big!!! And cute as ever:goodvibes

So this morning I spoke of no changes. Fast forward 12 hours and BINGO! We have a CHANGE! With 17 days left till check-in, I managed to make one last change - and to a reservation I had yet to change!

I changed the CR reservation to WL/CL. I never thought I'd change the CR, but I got to thinking (we RCs do that sometimes:rolleyes1) that I keep trying to change the second half of our split, but never really contemplated the first half since DH loves the CR so much.

But, by changing the CR to WL/CL we get to stay at his second favorite resort, we don't have to change the Poly reservation (again) and we can stay CL for the same price we were booked non-CL in the Tower. This works great since DD didn't want to change from the Poly anyway, and she's "more tired" of the CR than the WL and loved CL there so she was all for it.

So everyone's happy (including DH - he's so patient:love:), the ticker's changed and I feel relieved that my number hasn't yet been blocked by the WDTC "Resort Reservation Changes" line:rotfl:. Oh, my CM tonight was "Lavender." The only Disney connection to Lavender I could find was a lullaby:confused3

Hope everyone had a great week:goodvibes

I LOVE your ch ch change:thumbsup2

To ALL of my RC family-
:grouphug::wave2: Sorry I have been MIA, I worked 6 straight nights, and after 2 days off have somewhat recovered...I made lots of $$$$ though, AND.....today upgraded to Poly TPV CL:dance3:

What can I say the money burns a hole in my Vera Bradley:upsidedow

And....to make up for my being gone for well over a week, here's my kiddos (little ones in the kiddie pool, and big guy at Grandpa's pool)

BTW Heather You're pics are fantastic....Now to re-read all the posts...You guys have been busy, and I missed so much:surfweb:

Janet...I just use photobucket...a super, easy simple program that's basically free;)

Minnie&Nanna....I'll have to ask DH about the bed bug situation. He runs a pest control company...so knows all about those lil' pest! In fact his guys just treated a house a few weeks ago....I know...they are yuck!!

MAGIC...thanks for all the info! You're a wealth of Disney knowledge!! I would love to try ALL the resorts, too, at least once. I'm really hoping for a room only discount for October. I would like to go back to FW and just relax...maybe go to MNSSHP.

Pas130...I'm totally jealous! Poly CL TPV!!!:thumbsup2 You really can't beat it. So nice to sit on the patio in your bathrobe and watch Wishes!! On our recent trip...the kids wanted to know why we couldn't watch Wishes on our balcony. They couldn't understand why I booked a Bay Lake view and not a MK view:rolleyes: I told them they would get over it! Y'all enjoy!!!

Heather

That's funny!! Sounds like my DS10...or better yet, the 5 year old who liked telling people last year that we were staying at the "Poly CL"....the non-Disney people would stare at her with confused looks and ask...'What's that?' DH said we should have started off staying at the values and everything would have been fine...when you start off with Deluxe, it's hard to go back. Don't get me wrong....if that's all there was, we would certainly be there!!!! Hope your son can survive

:rotfl2: I hope so too! I keep telling him that in two years we will be staying at AsSpo, and he just shudders when I mention it. :lmao:

:The year we were staying at POP Century and I was lucky enough to get upgraded to OKW, my DD said, "Mom I really want to stay at POP, not this OKW place". I told her there was no way I was turning down an upgrade (to a 1 bedroom) for the POP (no matter how much I love POP). And, when we checked in and got to the room, we discovered we got a 2 BEDROOM!! Amazing pixie dust!!

Kaffinito: I'm staying in a studio at Kidani. I'm waitlisted for the last night, but do have a studio at Jambo. My dates are 8/16 to 8/22 (flying out in the evening).

That is one heck of an upgrade! :thumbsup2

I'm glad you are trying out Kidani, it isn't on my list at all since I got hooked on AKL Jambo. :goodvibes

Well, I'm even more confused now! I give up Disney pricing gods. You win again!

:rotfl:

The upgrade ... that year several others were upgraded to either SSR or OKW. It was speculated that there was a technical problem and they overbooked POP (although I know other people staying at the All Stars also got an offer.) It was my best deal ever, $82 a night with FD!!!

I remember that year! That's when the boards were abuzz with threads like "value people overrunning DVC" and snarky nasty things of that nature. It was terrible! Here were all these lucky folks who got terrific upgrades, and the DVC snobbies were being rather rude. :headache: I'm glad you were one of the people who got those nice upgrades!

Last night I realized the room discount I was looking at was only for 25% where as we got it for 35%, because the rate per night at the Beach Club was more expensive compared to what we reserved it for on our confirmation. So basically had we changed our minds we wouldn't be getting as good as deal, even though the dates were still the same when the discount was being offered.

Glad you got the better deal! Here's hoping for bouncebacks! :goodvibes

I'm convinced that Animal from the Muppets does the IT for the Disney website. I'm almost alway surprise when it works. :lmao:

:rotfl2::lmao:

Hi all. We went to the Space Shuttle launch this morning. It was humbling and amazing as always. Good bye to a great friend.

I wish.:thumbsup2 But it is for the greater good. By switching to POR this year, DN and her DH's 14-day stay will provide big savings that they are giving to a family member in great need. Back to Deluxe August 2012, though...and I am already predicting a refreshed Poly stay...stay tuned! :happytv:

Good for you! :goodvibes :thumbsup2
.
kaffinito: Thanks for the recommendation on AsSpo. We're taking DB there. Would you recommend FOOTBALL or BASEBALL? They look cutest to us.

I stayed in Surfs Up (the preferred section and I loved it! I thought football and basketball were the cutest. :goodvibes

"What does this mean?....What is the significance?....:confused3

Whatever you want it to be? ;)

Please don't let anything burn a hole in a Vera Bradley! I will cry. Really I will.

And for the record, I am SO JEALOUS  that you're staying in Poly TPV CL! Poly has the best TPV room view EVER (IMHO) I am so happy for you! :dance3:

Happy Saturday morning to all RCs!!!:wave2:

I was waiting to see if WDWKOOK or MAGIC had changed again, but it appears that all ressies are intact.:thumbsup2

Well this coming August after our stay at the Boardwalk Inn my family and I are having our first stay ever at the Beach Club. Now we have been there to visit a couple of times and been twice to Beaches & Cream, plus we have also been to visit the Yacht Club a few times. The reason we picked the Beach Club is because we liked it's theme better, the fact they have a Quick Service location with the Beach Club Marketplace located in the lobby, where as the Yacht Club doesn't have one in their lobby, it's closer to Beaches & Cream and that WDW was still offering their previous August - October room only discount of 35% off. So I guess we will know 100% after staying there how much we like it.

Earlier today I was thinking about my stay at the Polynesian in December 2007. While I thought it was very good and was happy I stayed there at least once, towards the end I remember missing the Contemporary and I guess seeing it from our room didn't help. Anyway prior to that trip we had made a reservation at the Grand Floridian in August 2008 for one of their rooms in Sugar Loaf, however after missing the Contemporary we decided to switch our reservation and stay there. Last year before we made our first reservation at the Boardwalk Inn my Dad suggested the Grand Floridian, however I suggested the Boardwalk Inn because I said do we want to stay at another Monorail Resort on a split stay and this time we could try staying outside the Magic Kingdom Resort Area since we never did that before. Finally this past March before reserving our stay at the Beach Club it came down to there and the Grand Floridian, well obviously by now you know we picked the Beach Club.

So do you think on some level part of me doesn't want to ever try the Grand Floridian because I will end up missing the Contemporary, since it happened while we were staying at the Polynesian. I should also mention when I went to visit the Contemporary in December 2010 while I was happy to at least look around and order something from the Contempo Cafe, I didn't feel like I missed it as much during our time at the Boardwalk Inn.

I think I have it narrowed down, but it really will depend on finances. If we stay at a value - we'll stay at PC, deluxe - we'll stay at WL. If we do a moderate I'm not sure. I just wish they hadn't been such stupidheads and nixed the Haunted Mansion rooms. It's a toss up between CSR, POR, POFQ. We've stayed at CBR and would stay there again, but would like to try another moderate, if we do that lvl. Hopefully, I'll get my money that I've been waiting on in a few weeks so I can book our trip. I'm thinking about just booking a WL CV and hope for the best. I'm thinking that will really motivate me with the statistics class that I'm taking next session.

Hi folks. :wave2: You all won't believe what I just did. I just tried to switch to WL. :scared1:  I HATE that resort! What the heck?! I guess after 5 months of holding out my brain has cracked. All that was available was a Courtyard BB room (ironically what I had booked last time which was the start of all the trouble :sad2:) so it was a no go because I really want CL this time. I think part of my temporary insanity came from this nonsense about no monorail an hour after park closing. It really ruffled my feathers. If I'm going to have to lug a stroller AND 2 kids on a bus from 3 parks why not just make it all 4 AND save over a thousand dollars in the meantime?

disneydreamin247 :scared1: WOW, I didn't see that coming. Your Poly/GF split stay is meant to be:cloud9:

kaffinito My VB is safe I promise ;) I spent quite some time yesterday trying to coach DH into the GF...He wasn't having it. The TPV at Poly....he LOVES it! I have never seen him so excited about Disney:cool1: I'd be lying if I said I am not jealous of your SL stay.....:goodvibes

hstrickland The CM on the phone is a Poly lover too, and she was going on and on about all these little tidbits about why Poly is the best. It felt good. This is my first monorail resort stay, and my DH didn't want to do Disney this trip at all. He promised to go to the CL lounge and bring goodies back to the room so I can watch the fireworks with the kiddos in our PJs at least once. This may spoil them all:laughing:

Just my two cents, but there is nothing wrong with staying value and saving the money. But if you're going with deluxe, then WL or AKL are definitely the most affordable choices! :)

This couldn't have come at a worse time, as my parents started talking about not going yesterday. If they don't go AND the monorail service is cut I don't think I will be going either.

I am just happy to know that I am not the only one who has thought like that before.

WDWKOOK, wait a minute....what's going on with your ticker?? Where's CR??? Does this mean you're now at WL CL & Poly CL and no CR at all? No Bay Lake view? Traded that gorgeous view for an enclosed balcony? Wow, WL CL must fantastic!!!

I must be going through some weird phase of late middle age :-)rotfl:) because I've pretty much lost a desire to travel ( I LOVE to travel), even to our beloved WDW. The major reason is the ever growing bedbug issue (sorry). I just cannot handle the stress of the possibility of bringing home those creepy hitchhiker's. Every WDW Resort has or has had bedbugs... in the hot Florida summer the critters increase in huge numbers. And Disney does not seem to do all that great of a job to rid the resorts - I know it is not an easy task, perhaps impossible, but instead of closing off rooms they use a heat treatment and reopen it within 24/48 hours. No getting rid of furniture (not even replacing mattresses now that it is a full blown infestation in the U.S.). I'm sorry to even bring up the issue, but it has gotten to me. Yesterday I was able to reconnect with a former resort manager who answered my questions very honestly.

Wish I could be like those who do not worry about such things! Kudos to you!
No CR? Yes. No Bay Lake View? Not quite. From the 7th floor lounge the view of BL is dead on:love:. And most of the time I end-up standing on the balcony anyway because I like to get a better view of everything. I never really lounge out on the balcony for too long so the standing balcony for me won't be a problem. And don't forget, the WL/CL room is the exact same price as the CR/BLV non-CL room;).

I know you've seen all the bedbug threads so I won't repeat everything, but do keep in mind that EVERY hotel has at some point had or has bedbugs. With more and more people traveling all over the world and bringing back all kinds of bugs, illness, etc... it's much more widespread. We've also changed treatment methods over the years from what at one time was quite potent to what is now less efficacious.

I won't tell you to stop worrying because I know you won't, but maybe you could put that worry a little further down the list so that you can enjoy thinking about planning another WDW vacation. I bought this stuff for our trip and while I know it's not a "cure," maybe it would make you feel better, too?

By booking the Deluxe room you automatically get CL too? Interesting. I would like to be able to bring my niece and my grand niece and having the extra room would be nice.

WDWKOOK: So glad you have made your decision (well, for now, right? :)). WL and the POLY are sooo beautiful AND you get CL at both!! I know you wouldn't get CR withdrawal, after all you can visit and still eat there, right??

Yes, all Deluxe rooms and Suites at the WL, BC, BWI and YC have club level access. The WL Deluxe room has about 500 SF, whereas a regular room has about 340 SF. How nice of you to want to bring your DN and DGN!

And yes, we have reservations at CA Grill on our arrival night and a Wave breakfast ADR so I'll be visiting the CR at least twice, if not more;).

Thank you for approving my FINAL change. You worked really hard this past week and I'm so glad you could book the Poly TPV:goodvibes. Your trip seems perfect now. Everyone must just be giddy with excitement:thumbsup2

Thank you for the extra cute pool picture (or should I say water feature?)I love how all your children have their own pools:snooty:. Keep those photos coming, oh, and I love :cat: photos too, so if any of you have those...popcorn::

I don't have to tell you how I can so relate to that. But unlike you, I really missed the CR when we were at the YC last year, even though I couldn't see it, I knew it was there!

And you know that back in August 2007 we switched from the Poly after 3 nights to the CR. That was the year we got the GW ground floor end room facing Bay Lake. If I could be guaranteed one of those rooms I would book it again. In fact, I wonder why the CR GW doesn't have a Bay Lake View category? The rooms facing Bay Lake are not even close to being garden views. Which brings me to my next question: Why are views not bookable on CL at WL? You can only book CL, but not a view. You have to request either WL CTYD, VWL CTYD or Woods if you have a preference.

I think I have it narrowed down, but it really will depend on finances. If we stay at a value - we'll stay at PC, deluxe - we'll stay at WL. If we do a moderate I'm not sure.
HATE? You HATE the WL? But why? Have you ever stayed there?

Don't forget that they're only suspending the monorail AFTER PM EMH. Were you going to be out that late with a your two little ones? I understand why you're upset and I would be too if we went to PM EMH, but we never do. In fact, I avoid the parks that have EMH since they're more crowded than the non-EMH parks.

Are you still seriously considering switching? At least you'd have the MK walkway if you stayed at CR or BLT...

Kaffinito: Are you still going without DH? Do you think he'll ever go again?

Last night, DH announced that we should add the DxDP to the first five nights at WL. I was really excited at first and then reality hit. I actually changed all the ADRs last night because we're arriving in two weeks and I thought I wouldn't be able to get that many "last minute" ADRs added. Fast forward to this morning and I was having second thoughts. Well, actually I had the second thoughts at around 0300 when I awakened wondering how the DxDP AND CL would actually work. I never did add it so I had nothing to change today (except all those ADRs back to what they were:upsidedow).

I ran the numbers on what we were actually going to eat on a typical day and compared it with the cost of the DxDP and came to the conclusion that it wasn't advantageous. We'd just end-up being overly full, overly scheduled or both.

Ever since they dropped the appetizer and tip from the DDP, we never again got it. I also get 20% off all TS and drinks with the TIW so that's another reason for us not to get it. Plus we don't need the snacks and mugs if we're staying CL. Maybe we'll consider it again in the future after our APs expire in August. I've considered getting the Premium Package next year for our 25th anniversary and I think that includes the DxDP. But, I'm sure that thought will change many times in the next year;)

I just noticed we're going to need a new home soon! I can't believe how quickly we reached our limit. Guess we're just a chatty bunch!

This couldn't have come at a worse time, as my parents started talking about not going yesterday. If they don't go AND the monorail service is cut I don't think I will be going either.

:scared1:

I am just happy to know that I am not the only one who has thought like that before.

Definitely not. As a matter of fact, your post has me thinking again about how much I will miss the Poly when I'm at GF. I might even look for a discount at Poly...

But, I didn't like their CL, and do like their TPV's, so.... :upsidedow

Thank you for being the voice of reason about the monorail situation. An hour after EMH ends should be plenty of time to get back to your resort. :goodvibes

I was thinking it would be right after the park closed during regular hours (for some reason) ;) That's what I get for not reading too carefully!

As far as the CL and the DxDDP goes, I haven't done it either. And I don't do the DDP with CL for that matter. I did it once, and we ended up being over scheduled and overstuffed. :)

Now Heather has done it, and she wrote up a really good TR on it, so I know it can be done - I'm just not brave enough to try. And we have the TiW discount too, so I rely on that more.

Hi all!

First to Pas130 - your kiddos are the cutest!! Love, love the matching swimsuits on the girls and your boys are so darn handsome:goodvibes

And congrats on your change to Poly TPV CL!! :dance3: :dance3: I can only imagine how excited you must be!!

I'm glad you are trying out Kidani, it isn't on my list at all since I got hooked on AKL Jambo. :goodvibes

Yes, we are all excited about AKV ... I hear that the 2 pools are great. And the girls are looking forward to viewing the animals at night.

And thanks!! The upgrade was major pixie dust! And to think i wasn't even going to call ... thinking it was one of those gimmicks to sell me on DVC ... I was a Disney novice then. :) Well, I was spared reading any comments since I wasn't on the DIS then ... and I would have avoided reading anything like that anyway.

Like Kaffinito said, for the money the POP is terrific. I love the feel and energy of it. It's a win-win, you just don't save money, you have a great time - it is a really fun resort, with great CMs.:hippie:

Dani: Did something negative happen on the last trip? We think it's a beautiful resort, and the CMs so friendly. They were especially nice to my DD with the pin trading.

WDWKOOK ... Love your WL Pix! You make me yearning to stay there now instead of AKV!!

Aaaahhhhh Ha! I detect a swiftly moving strain of the dreaded Resortis Changeritis disease!
Act swiftly... it is a nasty, insidious disease with only one know cure. :earsboy:
.
:rotfl:

Yes, all Deluxe rooms and Suites at the WL, BC, BWI and YC have club level access. The WL Deluxe room has about 500 SF, whereas a regular room has about 340 SF. How nice of you to want to bring your DN and DGN!

Thanks to you and Minnie&Nana for the info ... CL would be a nice touch. My DN and DGN had one trip to Disney 2 years ago ... and they stayed offsite during Christmas vacation :sad2: All was arranged by her mother-in-law that really didn't know the ins and outs of planning a trip to Disney. So, I want to be able to bring her (maybe with my Mom, Sis and Sam) to stay on site and really show them a great time. Now we only need a great discount :)

And yes, we have reservations at CA Grill on our arrival night and a Wave breakfast ADR so I'll be visiting the CR at least twice, if not more;).

Love the Calif Grill!! I have eaten there a few times and being able to view wishes just puts me on :cloud9:

I too think the DxDP would be too much with CL. And the premium package next year for you would be a nice present to you both:goodvibes

Actually we have been swinging back and forth on whether to add the QS or DP for some of our days. I *think* we have it narrowed down to 3 days of QS Friday-Sunday. Having a car, really gives me some independance and flexibility of either picking up or eating at DTD or off site. I do love the Disney dining but I have always had a meal plan, and like you, having lost the tip and appetizer feature, it is less of a value.

Was considering going with maybe 2 and 2 (QS and reg DP) so I can try and book the HDDR. We had a blast the one and only time we did it. Oh, well have to make my decision and stick with it ... since I can't make changes myself.

Well like you I keep wondering why the BWI doesn't have a seperate category for reserving their Standard Club Level rooms with the Boardwalk View. The only way to get that view is to reserve their Deluxe Club Level Rooms, because the only other view you get with the Standard Club Level Rooms is of their Garden. Although those come with a view of the France Pavilion and that means seeing Illuminations, so it's not a bad trade off.

Well I guess there is no harm and looking to see if there are any discounts at the Polynesian, although what's more important. Staying Club Level at the Grand Floridian which you like or staying at the Polynesian with their Theme Park View?
