“Hey bartender, let the whiskey fall” – 2010 F&W Report - 12/8 - 3D Dessert Party

I'm so glad I found this. I read your Insanity TRs, I'm so glad to find your F&W trip! I like your taste and perspective, so I'm looking forward to hearing more!

Taste, Shake & Indulge!

We got to the event about 15 minutes early and joined the growing group of people in the lobby. Redzinner spotted me and we said a quick hello as did Disbug1. My husband was in the corner so I went back to him until we were allowed to go wait on the stairs for a few minutes. At exactly 2:30pm, the doors to Bistro were open and everyone was led to pre-assigned seats in the dining room.

During this presentation, they handed out the shots of various varieties of Grand Marnier

He explained the making of each of them and blends made. We learned how to properly taste the liquor. Those of us at our table ended up just taking it as a shot after doing an initial sip. I wasn't quite sure if we were supposed to do that or not but I was having fun so it didn't really matter.

After the demo - we were all given a plate with our desserts.

They were all so good. The souffle was a cold one and I think if I wasn't looking my husband would have tried to stolen mine.

Upon leaving we were given a cheaper plastic shaker & round cup to making cocktails at home. I would have rather had the one from the presentation though. ;)

For the price of the event, it was a deal! It was such a fun way to spend the afternoon. The dessert were wonderful and there was tons of alcohol to be enjoyed.

This sounds like a fabulous event! I just started my 2011 F&W PTR and this event sounds like something I definitely want to do, if they offer it again.

Party of the Senses

Our waitress quickly greeted herself and asked if we would like an alcoholic beverage and that the booths would be open for us shortly & in the mean time we could visit the cheese station in the back of the gated area. Well, as soon as I got up to get us some cheese, the chef for the amuse bouche station was like “Where are you going? I have something for you!” Ok! Works for me!
---------------------
Overall the evening was great. My husband and I had a bit too much to drink to enjoy the full bar that was in the Wine View Lounge. We did like knowing we had a table we wouldn’t have to worry about losing though and it made it so that I could keep my tote there under the table cloth w/o having to carry it around all evening. My husband wasn’t completely thrilled with everything as the party like that he is out of his element but he is glad he went once. Next year he told me to go on my own though as he knows I enjoy it.

Can I ask about the Handicapped Accessibility to the Wine View Lounge? Every year we attend "Taste" which is essentially the CA F&W version of PFTS. There is no special area that can be reserved and since neither me nor my partner could stand for the entire event, we have created our Tastemobiles. We can't transport the tabletops to WDW due to size. If we reserved the Wine View Lounge, and it was accessible, we wouldn't need to try and bring the table tops and would have a guaranteed seat. I could walk around the event (just not the park), but DP would need to stay in the scooter.

Just a comment about the crowds & tables outside of the WVL... We were there the same night and didn't join the mad dash for the tables. We didn't have a hard time finding a table to stand at and if we had cared to find a table to sit at, we could have headed to the back and probably found one without a problem. We wound up sitting at a table with about 30 minutes left, which was perfect for us because it's when we got our last fill of wine and 1 more dessert that we savored for 30 minutes! From the people I talked to at the event, there were more tables this year than in the past.

Looking forward to your pics and reviews as well!

do they sell other desserts that come in the mug?
I didn't see any other desserts that were for sale in those mugs; however, I didn't visit any other bakeries during the trip so maybe there were others out there!

Aww, thanks

That event was one of the best events I've done at F&W in a long time. At $45 it was a steal! I hope it returns next year as I would definately do it again.

Inside the Wine View Lounge, there were a few people with ECVs. They were placed at a table near the entrance and exit to the gated area. About a week before the event, the coordinators call you and ask if there is anything they need to know like other guests you would like to sit with or if other considerations need to be made. That is where I would bring up the need of a table for ECVs.

Looking forward to your pics and reviews as well!
Hopefully I can get this finished quickly, if work lets me at least.

Fabulous review! :goodvibes
Thank you!

Yak & Yeti
After a morning of enjoying Animal Kingdom, it was time for our lunch at Yak & Yeti. This is one of my favorite places for a quick, easy, and cheap TS lunch. Its on the cheap side, moreso because I always just get appetizers than a real entree.

I started with a Bonsai Blast
005lm.jpg

Blue drinks always make me happy.

To eat, my husband & I decided on ordering 3 appetizers as we did have our meal at Fulton's to look forward to this evening & we wanted to make sure we would be hungry to enjoy that meal!

I had my Wonton Soup
006qhh.jpg

I love it! Around here in Macon, we really have no good Chinese food places. This helps me sadiate that craving as I can't get it at home.

We also had an order of Potstickers
008zg.jpg

Seared of course! They are wonderful here, :cloud9: especially with the soy-lime dipping sauce.

My husband went with a side order of the Chicken Fried Rice
009be.jpg

Not as good as the rice at our usual Japanese Steakhouse, but he was happy enough with it.

Goofy's Candy Company

After an afternoon of relaxing in our room, we headed over to Downtown Disney again for some shopping as we both needed to pick up some stuff for our co-workers. I went with embarrassing Disney pens for my maintenance planners whereas my husband went with some of the Disney Princess Rubber Band Bracelets. We ended up at Goofy's to pick up some sweets for later.

Well - what did we actually end up with?

078m.jpg

Cupcake, Marshmellow Stick & White Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup

The only thing I got to try was the halloween marshmellow stick which was a nice sweet treat when I had it the following evening. My husband had the other two. He mentioned the cupcake had way too much icing on it even after some of it was lost in the bag it was held in. He loved the White Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup though.

Great reviews Dis_Yoda! I'm glad we met. Taste, Shake and Indulge like the French has been our best event this year!

Thanks for a wonderful update, I have to try the white Peanut butter cup

They are really good. I had one during an earlier trip this year & mmm. I was sad my husband got it before I did!

Joining in! Loving the reviews!!
Thanks for joining in!

Thanks :) I'm glad we met too - too bad we didn't get to talk more! That event was so much fun & definately would do it again.

Fulton's

As we finished our shopping around Downtown Disney, we headed over to Fulton's & were quickly seated upstairs. Our server was prompt and overly friendly. Apparently she recognized me from May with my mother. :lmao:

I started with a Pomegranate Martini
068v.jpg

& we received our Sourdough Bread
067ed.jpg

Crab Dip
065hh.jpg

As I was enjoying the Crab Dip (wonderful as always), my husband had gone with the Fixed Menu as it had the entree for him. This menu included a Caesar Salad to start.
069gg.jpg

The plate was left clean between the two of us. It was a good caesar, much better than the one I had earlier in the trip at Wolfgang.

The real reason my husband went with the fixed menu was because of entree - 10 ozs each of Snow Crab & Alaskian King Crab Legs

072o.jpg

He loved them! He started with the snow crab first as he knew the King Crab would taste better and he didn't want to end on the lesser note.

I went with the Filet
074hn.jpg

This was a huge 12 ounce portion that well, there was no way that I could finish it. My husband helped. It was perfectly cooked to Medium Rare. It wasn't as good as Shula's but still better than most filets at Disney.

My husband's meal included dessert for him - Cheesecake
077l.jpg

He enjoyed it but made sure he left enough on his plate to steal some of my dessert...
Tollhouse Cookie Sundae
076va.jpg

It was HUGE! A large very warm freshly made chocolate chip cookie under vanilla ice cream with chocolate shavings and chocolate sauce. It was so good. I was on the fulll side from my filet but somehow between my husband and I we made sure not a bite of it was left in that skillet.

Fulton's continues to be one of our favorite places (It's my husband's favorite, easily) & we will definately be back our next trip together.

Fultons is my hubby's fave too! He is counting down the days until he can get his king crab claw fix!

Wow, that Tollhouse sundae looks incredible. Though you can't see it, I am seriously drooling right now.

I'm a big fan of the Yak 'n' Yeti wonton soup, too. So delicious and restorative, yet so cheap!

Great reviews, can't wait for more!

Thanks for the great update, food looks so yummy escpecailly Fulton's crab's

It was fantastic. My husband is debating if we can go over to Disney for Fulton's before our cruise in Feb.

Fultons is my hubby's fave too! He is counting down the days until he can get his king crab claw fix!
I told him to go for the Crab Claws but he's like legs make me happy too! He doesn't believe me that the meat is better...maybe one day he'll listen.

It was incredible. Its rather simple - so I may try to make it at home when I'm having a sweet craving fix.

I love their Wonton Soup - I think I have had it for my past 6 trips when I've gone to Animal Kingdom.

Food Court

Another boring breakfast!
001eii.jpg

We are rather plain with our choices, but why change it up when we know what will make us happy :thumbsup2

EPCOT Food & Wine Festival

Our original plans were going to involve pool time, DTD to check our T-Rex & then EPCOT in the evening. Talking over breakfast, we decided to change that and just enjoy as many booths as we could over the course of the day.

As it wasn't early enough for the World Showcase to open, we wandered into the Festival Center to see if there was anything I wanted to buy or if we wanted to get some of the wine.

We didn't, but I took pictures of one of the cool cake displays!

002mgd.jpg

003gn.jpg

As it neared 11am, we headed up to the World Showcase & noticed they opened one of the booths early so we decided to check it out.
Desserts & Champagne

Dark Chocolate Sensation $1.50
010ws.jpg

It reminded us of a better version of the frosted brownie bites that Publix sells around here. My husband and I split this as we knew we were gonig to be having many many small treats over the course of the day.

At this time, we decided to not get any of their Champagne as it was still at the $5 mark for like a sip and a half of the bubbly.

We wanted to hit Chile but it was 11am & they weren't opened yet, so we decided to head onto the rest of World Showcase and get back to it later.
Brazil
Shrimp Stew with Coconut and Lime $4.25
011crt.jpg

The taste was there as the shrimp were well cooked. The rice worked well with the broth that was there. Except, it didn't seem very 'stew' like to me.

Leblon Frozen Caipirinha $7.25
012hcx.jpg

I loved this! It was cool and refreshing. My husband however, wasn't much of a fan but he doesn't like non-sweet alcoholic drinks much.

Puerto Rico

As my husband wasn't a fan of the Caipirinha, I knew that the next frozen drink would be a huge hit for my husband.

Bacardi Frozen Torched Cherry Colada $7.50

013kq.jpg

Well it wasn't a huge hit as he was really wanting the Dragonberry Colada from last year but he still enjoyed it. He said it reminded him of one of the smoothies he gets from Smoothie King on occasion.
Mexico
Churro $2.50

015oz.jpg

Yes, of all the great food to be had at the Mexico booth, my husband wanted the Churro. He mentioned that he had never had one before ?!?
Which seems strange to me as I know somewhere over the course of the time we've been together, I've had a Churro.

It was fresh as it wasn't that far after opening & didn't have time to get stale. It was right where it should be with the chewy, crispy, hot sugary dough

EPCOT Food & Wine Festival Part 2
China

Having had a bunch of sweet stuff, we needed something savory. The next booth we ran into was China. Even though we had ate here on Saturday, I still had one thing I wanted to try & we ended up getting the same things again too.

Black Pepper Shrimp w/ Sichuan Noodles
018bs.jpg

I loved these shrimp! The spice on them was perfect & a decent amount of them for the price. The noodles were good too but I didn't want to eat too many of them with the amount of food that awaited us around the world showcase.

Pork Pot Stickers
017ty.jpg

Again, nicely cooked and nice. I think I was done with my pot sticker cravings for the trip now though.

Xinjiang Barbecue Chicken Stick
016lp.jpg

This time around - it wasn't as good. The chicken was rather fatty when it wasn't on Saturday. We ended up throwing most of it away.
South Korea
Next stop around the work was South Korea! We only got one of them as weren't in the mood for ribs.

Lettuce Wraps w/ Roast Pork & Kimchi Slaw
020tp.jpg

So so good. The pork was one the level of pulled pork that we have around here at the BBQ places. The sauce worked well with pork.
Singapore
Shrimp Cake w/ Singapore Noodle Salad
021cb.jpg

I wasn't really impressed. The shrimp cake was kinda um sticky? I think Redzinner said it best on the 2010 Food & Wine Thread about it being gelatin like. I know others have liked it so maybe we just got a bad batch.

We were thirsty here & both decided to get a drink.
Singapore Sling (Me)
Tiger Beer (Husband)
022is.jpg

The beer - well my husband said it was a standard beer & he had no complaints.

The Singapore Sling, I think it was more my fault for not liking it than the drink's. Having never had a singapore sling, I wasn't aware it was a mostly gin drink. I hate gin - it reminds me of a pine tree. I bet if I liked gin I would have liked the drink but oh well.
