Bumped from VWL upon checkin and given Lodge rooms?

Personally the two lodge rooms would be okay for me - if they offered free laundry service. If not - forget it
To me the only appropriate compensation would be re-booking in an acceptable DVC villa...at a different resort, if necessary. (Which would be tough if the guests really had their heart set on VWL.)

Two hotel rooms -- no matter how nice -- would not be enough for our family. It's not just a matter of value; it's a whole different character of accommodation. I didn't buy an interest in hotel rooms.

It's pretty hard for me to understand how an owner -- or an owner's guest -- could be bounced out of a confirmed ressie due to overbooking. I can see "walking" a cash guest, but not an owner.

What is the worse of the two evils? A different accommodation at the resort you booked of room type at somewhere you didn't book. I figure someone would have a bigger issue with not being allowed to stay at their beloved VWL while being 'forced' to stay at SSR? No win situation.
Good luck. This is one of the things that I would fear in either renting or having to rent.:headache:
I hope they have a room for me on the 25th.:headache: :scared:

This just sounds WRONG all the way around! First, there should be no way to "overbook" on points. Secondly, there is no way a 2 WL rooms are ANYTHING akin to a VWL 1 bedroom! Where's the kitchen? Where's the laundry? Where's the Jacuzzi? I would have refused and held out for something more appropriate. Of course, as renters, they probably didn't feel they could do that. You as the owner though, should get some compensation on points though, in my book. If you apply the same theory here that someone else reported when a reservation was upgraded, then the points should have gone into holding. Something just does NOT smell right with this one.

I would have been absolutely, no doubt about it...thoroughly P!SSed if this were my points and my friends. In no way are 2 lodge rooms equivalent to a 1 bedroom villa. Where's my kitchen, my jacuzzi tub....my space?? (you probably would have heard my unhappiness above the servers yelling in WCC)

I would definitely let MS know that this will not sit with me. They should have been moved to another resort altogether. I would be asking for some credit back into my DVC account.

I hope you get this resolved. I really feel sorry for your friends being treated that way. They missed out.

best of luck,
Esmerelda

Of course, as renters, they probably didn't feel they could do that.

Just a point of clarification, they weren't renters. They were actually some nice folks that won a charity raffle that my husband and I donated a one-week's stay to for a family with a sick child.

Thanks for the validation guys. It helps to see that I am not wacky in thinking this is wrong.

Didnt someone just report that they were asked to downgrade to a studio last week? I think it was Bfrosty.

Serious downgrade and they should have at least been offered a choice and a ride to another DVC with a 1 bedroom.

I know I have AKV 1 bdr Concierge and if they are overbooked, Im going to the Poly CR or Im going home!

I would think the only way to "overbook" on points would be if there were some maintenance issue that took rooms out of service. I've read that hotel guests can not be evicted if they choose to stay so I suppose that a cash guest could also have extened their stay.

this thought really hasn't crossed my mind before, but when MS says they want an e-mail sent to them, have any of you ever forwarded a Dis thread (such as this thread)? Seems like they would be like "wow" when they see how many people share the same feelings. Or, is it best that we keep our dis conversations "secret!"

I know, but in DVC's book, they are renters, because you were not with them. If this is a harbinger of things to come, I suspect we might see more "non-owners" getting "bumped". I just think there should be point compensation, and I don't understand why it is any different than someone getting upgraded, and having their points put in holding.

Ah, I see. You're probably right about non-owners getting bumped, because as I said upthread, MS confirmed that guests get bumped before owners do as a matter of policy.

From what I understand, our "conversations" aren't very secret as Disney monitors these boards. I want that job! :surfweb:

I wonder if in our DVC profile now they'll have "lulu71 on Disboards" in their notes since they'll easily be able to tell who I am now!

I don't care whether they are owners or guests. There is points inventory, and there is cash inventory. All unencumbered points inventory goes to CRO 60 days out -- but there should be no possibility of a points inventory overbooking. There is a separate developer inventory used to cover units out of service for things like maintenance.

The resort bumped those folks to make room for someone paying a high cash price.

I sure do hope that renters/cash people get bumped first. I usually share stuff like this with my husband, but I am afraid he may stroke out!:scared1:

And tell me, what would my husband and I do with 2 rooms at WL when we book a 1 BR for just us?
No way.

Slightly OT, but when I mentioned this to the MS supervisor, she told me that developer inventory accounts for less than 2% of inventory. Why am I thinking that it is actually 5%? Isn't that in our documents somewhere?

lulu, was it a family of 4 or even 5 with older kids? I can see them moving a family like that if someone has to move. More real beds for such a group might not be a bad deal. You lose the jacuzzi, kitchen and all important w/d but gain three more real beds and another bathroom albeit nothing like a 1BR.

Sorry it happened to your guests.

Thanks. It was actually a man, his mother and two young nieces.

:lmao: What about all the singles that mentioned they book 1 BRs in the other thread.

If it had happened to me I would have asked to speak to someone.....preferably a top management person..... at DVC immediately. There is no way two lodge rooms are equal to a 1 bedroom.....possibly monetarily, but, as other posters have mentioned......the kitchen and laundry facilities are a huge factor. We also do a lot of meal preparation in our DVC unit and a situation like this would present a problem for my family since we ship a carton of meal prep items ahead and then just purchase the fresh ingredients needed.....not to mention the added expense of needing to eat ALL meals out.......not just the ones we had already planned to do. I think I would still call DVC and ask for a full explanation of what actually happened.......I would have all the information handy when I called (i.e. reservation names, dates, etc.) and simply make them aware of what transpired and what your feelings are about the way it was handled. It's possible the powers that be at DVC aren't even aware that situations like this have been happening.

Yeah! Them too!!!:thumbsup2

Honestly, I was just imagining them saying they would "give" us an extra bedroom. What would we do with 4 queen sized beds? When all we wanted was a king!

Technically this is a rental but from DVC's standpoint there's no reason they should make any difference. There should be a pecking order in the few times these things happen. Actually whether the member is present or not shouldn't make any difference but rather whether the points are home resort at that resort or not, then cash with date of reservation as a tiebreaker.

At this point it's likely too late to do much. DVC may or may not give any compensation but I won't be surprised if they decline at this point. The time to get more out of it was at the time of checkin. Given the loss of a kitchen and Laundry, I bet they could have gotten as much as $100 a day if they'd resisted, possibly even more.
