I can still remember eating without ADRs
But now I call 180 days
Because the meal plan really pays
And no more need to rent expensive cars
Now our days of cheap food are numbered
No Disney dining unencumbered
Goodbye hassle free trips
We have to pay our own tips
I can’t remember if I cussed when
The appetizer bit the dust
Canceled my trip in disgust
The year the meal plan died

Oh why, why did the dining plan die
When you’re paying for buffeting
Soon your wallet runs dry
The ressie holders at Le Cellier will sigh
Universal’s hoping they might drop by
Universal’s hoping they might drop by…

Did you order the best deals
And did you share table service meals?
Everybody tells me “no”
Did you enjoy the results
When your children’s credits fed adults
And they ditched the sugar free jello?
Well I know Le Cellier’s booked again
From April first through August 10
Who knew it was a crime
To book 4 dinners at the same time?
And although Le Chefs quit serving duck
Who cares if we all saved a buck?
But this year we are out of luck
The year the meal plan died

We’ll be singing
Why, why did the dining plan die
When you’re paying for buffeting
Soon your wallet runs dry
The ressie holders at Le Cellier will sigh
Universal’s hoping they might drop by
Universal’s hoping they might drop by

OMG!! This is so incredibly ingenious!! I love it - thanks for the uplift.

Nala, that made this early rising RB moderator smile. Thanks for lightening up this thread....Can I please post a gentle reminder here to try and get through these changes pleasantly. Discussion is good, but I have to tell you some of the reading becomes difficult when we cannot be nice to each other and discuss the pros and cons with a little kindness... Of course, reporting the thread also brings us here to read and we end up locking the thread or deleting the offenders....please be nice to each other...

Thanks.

The poem is great. My DH had just mentioned checking out Universal. I can't believe we are even considering it. We are hoping disney will offer some great codes or something to bring us back.

Thanks for getting that tune stuck in my head this morning!!!! :rolleyes1

Your lyrics are much better than Don McLean's!!!

Love it!!!!:goodvibes

This is the best reading this morning......thanks so much for taking the time to post that.......I LOVE IT!!:thumbsup2

That was great Nala:banana:

I think my son and I will make both WDW and Universal happy. I'm going to book the deluxe plan for our Easter trip. In addition to that, we're planning to do one day at US/IOA. :woohoo:

Well,

The changes are not the end of the world, either. The Deluxe plan, while more expensive, still looks pretty good. (Oh, and we burn a LOT of calories at Disney... no relaxation for us!)

My only issue will be the gratuity. We will have a gratuity bill that we would have to pay at check out.

But let's look at the facts:

I would probably eat a good $7 on breakfast. Lunch would be about $20. Dinner? $30- easy. Lace in a snack or water? Another $5.

At Disney (if I ate there without the plan) that bill would be about $15 for breakfast, $20 for lunch, and $40 for dinner. Disney prices. So I save, what? $5?

Now, if you add in the gratuity, the plan becomes much more attractive, because if you go all sit-down, you will save a good $15 per adult. And off a $75 normal day, you would have a savings of $20 per adult.:teacher:

But, if you're like me, I'll probably still take the deluxe plan, because on vacation I do kind of splurge...:cool2:

Bicker, I was so excited to see that you used the word curmudgeon. You see, whenever I read your posts, I am fascinated by the tone of your words. I often think, "Does he speak to people in that superior tone when he is standing face to face with them?" If so, I have never encountered such a person.

Anyway, to my point...the word curmudgeon, meaning "a difficult, cantankerous person" is exactly what I think of when I read your posts. I could never think of the word before, and now you have supplied it!:cheer2:

:thumbsup2 :hippie:

That's exactly the point I made. Please allow me to disagree with you, as much as you would like to disagree with me.

Bicker, I think that problem is that you said I was "wrong" because I didn't agree with you. I did not call your opinion "wrong"...I just said we disagreed. In order to debate "nicely" IMHO, telling someone their opinion is wrong is not the way to go. Opinions can't be wrong...facts can... but opinions are the feelings of another...and feelings aren't "wrong" just because they're different from yours.

Hope you understand why someone might take offense to that....have a great day! :flower3:

The only thing I am really happy about is if they do drop the tip!!!! Right now servers are guaranteed 18%, no matter what. I would like to think that the servers who really don't get into character at some of the themed resturants, will suddenly find their tips sagging and might up their service a bit!!! When we went to Sci-Fi 2 years ago, our waiter stunk big time when it came to service. He quite frankly looked bored to be there, and his service to us lacked because of it. We saw other servers around us looking more "into it". I would like to think that we would have enjoyed our time there more if we had a better server.

Far be it from me to speak for bicker (who, I'm sure, will have his own piece to say), but...did you mean THIS line:

"Please accept, at least, that you can be wrong."

I read that as "allow for the possibility that your opinion is not refective of what's actually occured", not "YOU ARE WRONG!!".

Essentially, exactly what you said in your later post.

Maybe things are getting lost in "translation" here, but it looks like you're both saying the exact same thing, to me.

And on the flip side (and I'm just playing devils advocate, here), you have those that wonder how many servers will get "stiffed" because people will think (or pretend to think) that tips are included.

Which will REALLY make DDP diners get WORSE service because servers will view them as riskier "2nd class citizens".

I don't know if I agree with that viewpoint, but I have read it posted in this discussion.

I really hope that if they drop the tip they make it MANDATORY. If you don't like the service you could ask for a manager and get it reduced, but otherwise folks will short the servers. It's based on the PRICE of food not what you PAID Disney and I think folks will tip based on "Disney probably values this at $25" IMHO that's wrong and if it happens expect that service for those of us on DDP will take a NOSE DIVE!

I understand there will be an "automatic tip/service charge" for all parties of 6or more even if they ask for seperate checks or are seated on seperate tables.

Some restaurants offer a price fixed special menu. I base my tip on the price of the special, I don't calculate the a la carte price of the food in calculating my tip.

JMO but the DDP is a grey area. I agree DDP guests may start to get inferior service.

What an awesome poem! It touches on so many aspects of the "late great DDP" that is over now. The abuse, the savings the loss...... Great job! What do you do for a living??? A writer I hope!

That poem/song was totally awesome....I was actually singing it to American Pie in my head.....LOL it really made my morning.....Thank you so much!

As far as the proposed changes....I don't think we will choose to buy DDP in 2008....just doesn't make sense for our family....the way we eat and tour while in Disney.

Now if they had an all dessert plan ..... three dessert meals daily with two dessert snacks....I'd go for that!
