My DD is going off to college in the fall & she loves candles, but they are not allowed to have them in the dorms. The sales clerk at Yankee Candle suggested to her that she buy the plug-in ones with the refills. They come in all kinds of scents. Do you have to turn them on and off, like a nite light or do they just stay on until empty, like the air fresheners?
We haven't gotten them yet....wanted to check and see if they are worth the $12.00 each....anyone tried one before?

I haven't seen those, but I can guess that they are probably just like the ones that just stay in until they're out... I work at Bath and Body Works and our WallFlowers don't have off switches, they just smell until they're gone =) BUt they last a long time!

Funny, they told us no candles too but no one listened =) We all had them burning =)

The store that sells them shoudl be able to tell you about them... they probably have a good return policy, too. At B&BW, if you arent happy with it once you use it, you can just return it =)

I am going to a Yankee candle store next month, so if you don't have your answer by then, let me know and I will check on it for you.

mommyoftwo....don't worry about it...My Dd works in a candy store here on Cape Cod, right next door to Yankee Candle. I can check myself...I just wanted to know if anyone here had used them before....Now I'll save you that trip to YCandle!!! LOL Do they have Yankee Candles in Hawaii?? I thought they were a New England thing..

We don't have a Yankee Candle store, but I have seen a Hallmark store that carried them.

I have a couple....they smell great.
They are always on if they are plugged in but have a "control" at the top with about 4 or 5 settings that let varying amounts of fragrance out.
I always set mine a the lowest and it smells so good. They last about 2 months and the refills are $6.00.

(and my DD is in a dorm too....and always burns candles...as does just about everyone else.....not that they should if told not to ;) )

she can break the rules in the dorm. thats what dorm rules are for aren't they? :teeth:

at least I thought they where when I lived in one. ;)

I have one in my den with Clean Cotton fragrance and everyone always asks about it! "What's that wonderful smell?" They really are great!

Linens N Things also carries them.

I have one!!

They work & smell great!! They give off a lot of sent, so I've got mine sent on the lowest setting.

I'm going to buy one today;) I am obsessed with that Clean Cotton smell!!!

I love mine. I have the McIntosh fragrance in it now and it smells so good! You don't have to turn it on and off...it just stays on. This is a good idea for a dorm :)

I was disappointed in the plug in I bought from Bath & Body Works -- it wasn't strong enough for my liking.

May have to try the Yankee Candle line! :)

My mom has Sage and Citrus warmers in EVERY room of the house.

Honestly - they are EXTREMELY over priced. The Glade/Wizard oil warmer you can get at Wal-mart/Target for less then half the price work just as well - you just don't have the Yankee Candle scents (although they make a nice "fresh linen" scent.

And about candles in dorms - yea, we ignored that one too in my day...however, after a NASTY fire in one of the dorms...now I see why.

Also - the "car jars" yankee candle makes - $2 (not bad) are GREAT for making a room smell nice...I put a 'clean cotton' one in my walk-in closet...now the clothes always smell fresh.

I gotta say that I love the YC car jars! I've had one in my van for 4 months already and it still smells good!::yes::

I love my Airwick Oil warmer night light. I got mine half price after Christmas and now just buy refills in scents I like.

I LOVE the Yankee Candle plug ins as well. I have one in my office at work - probably a 10 X 10 room and I have to leave it on the low setting. Just enough to make the room smell nice. I really have gotten lots of compliments from it and people here like the Fresh Cut Roses. I just put in the Lilac Blossom yesterday but haven't had any comments yet. Definitely isn't as strong as the roses one. I do think they are worth the money.

I have the Bath & Body Works plug-ins. The Coconut Grove smells really great! But what I don't like is that it takes up the whole entire outlet. You can't plug anything else into that outlet. Also you can't shut it off unless you unplug it and you can't control the intensity of the fragrance.
I've used the YC car jars in my car and when you first use them the fragrance is too overpowering and then goes away pretty fast.

I have the MacIntosh Yankee plug ins downstairs and the Sage & Spice (I think that's the name) in the bedrooms. I love them!

I love them! They last a long time. I was actually surprised at how long they last 👍 . I wish the car jars worked better. They are a waste of money. I couldn’t smell mine from the very beginning 👎
