Yacht Club vs Boardwalk

reserved YC yesterday morning after Boardwalk had disappeared. Last night Boardwalk showed back up. Boardwalk is more popular than YC(from everything I read) and it is $30 a night more expensive. My question is why? What am I missing? The Boardwalk does not appear to be more ‘Disney’ themed than YC. I know we will have to walk a little bit farther to parks, but it’s not that much. We get storm along Bay is sounds like the best pool of Disney, and we can still walk along the boardwalk. By choosing YC, we save $30+ a night and the best pool. What does Boardwalk get us besides just a little less walking that makes it worth it?
not trying to sound contrary. Trying to understand.

Would help if I could read lol....disregard. I read it as BC, not BW lol

We've always stayed Yacht/Beach so I'm biased but...

I've only seen the new Yacht Club rooms on video, but they are lightyears better than the Boardwalk rooms in my opinion. The Boardwalk rooms look in need of a refresh? Again, only on video.

But I've always wanted to stay at Boardwalk with a boardwalk view, so there's that...

Yeah, my understanding is that BC is better than YC. However, for me, BC was going to be an extra $300+ for our stay. I would rather stay at YC and spend the $300+ on more snacks and meals in the parks. However, that is a clear comparison. Better Hotel at higher price, or a little extra spending money. I choose YC, but can understand why another would choose BC. However, stumpted on BW.

So we've stayed at both (yacht/beach) - honestly, outside of decor, there is no difference between the two. You share everything! But I suppose the walk to Epcot is shorter from Beach, but to us the difference was small. Again, the Yacht rooms are the "newest", but Beach rooms were nice.
I will say our views at the Beach Club weren't the greatest, even if we booked garden.

I think they are similar as well but my adult kids always want BWI. Sometimes BWI is lower than YC. I've paid ~$300/night for a std room summer rate at BWI and at the time that was the lowest price. If I have to choose between the two I pick the lower priced one.

You are comparing to different things. Only the DVC portion of the BoardWalk is currently open. The BWI is currently closed with no reopening date scheduled.

You would be comparing a DVC room to a Hotel room. The BWV DVC units start with a Deluxe Studio which has a Queen bed, a Sleeper sofa, and a fold down bed that is smaller than a twin bed. vs the YC that has two Queen beds and some units have an additional Day bed (sleeps 1).

How many are in your party?

The BWV (DVC) is slightly closer to HS walkway but other than that the distances to Epcot and HS are very similar.

The YC has been renovated more recently than the BC, they removed the carpeting and installed simulated wood flooring. Much easier to clean but does show dust / dirt very quickly during your stay with limited mousekeeping that is currently offered.

The BC is also closed just like the BWI with no scheduled reopening date. I though you were looking at an early January visit?

There are 5 in our party, myself, dw, ds14, ds11, dd6. I am simply going off of whats available to get on the DIsney Resort Reservations Page. However, given the description of the sleeping arrangements, YC is better, especially for us. Maybe the nondvc rooms are cheaper than YC when they open back up. If they are, than that would make sense. However, comparing whats available now and price, its not something I understand.

When paying cash, DVC studios in the EP resort area tend to price higher than the standard hotel rooms unless something pops up in a discount inventory. BC/YC/BCV vs. BWI/BWV is just a matter of preference in terms of location and amenities, IMHO. We prefer the villas (BCV being our favorite) as we find them to be, typically, quieter than the resort side of the resorts. That being said, I would never book a studio with a family of 5 simply because of the bedding options in those rooms. You are better off in a standard room unless you want to splurge on a two-bedroom villa. In terms of resort amenities, though I happen to prefer the BW pool (you can see your kids at all times from the pool deck), I like the fact that you can access all of the restaurants and QS places inside in YC/BC (except for B&C though that is accessed via a covered walkway). BWI/BWV is NOT fun when you are trying to simply pick up something to eat on the Boardwalk and it is pouring rain outside. YC's newly designed rooms are beautiful.

Yes with a party of 5 you will all sleep a little easier at the YC and you will get a day bed for the 5th person.

The pricing of the BWI (Non DVC) / YC / BC always vary slightly depending on the demand. Normally the BC / YC are often slightly higher than the BWI due to the large Storm Along Bay (SAB) pool area that is a favorite of many guests.

Both the BWI and the YC have convention facilities that would normally impact availability and pricing but this is not a factor currently.

Yeah, we actually had a reservation at the cabins for the very reason on space. When the discounts came out yesterday and YC was only $100 more total, we couldn't resist. It is going to be a little cramp for sure. ( the boys will share a bed and dd6 will get the twin.) We could not pass up the ability to walk to HS and Epcot (especially in these times and the realities of crowds and such) and stormalong bay is a bonus. The discount is saving us enough to cover all our Lunch & dinners as well, so a kitchen became moot. It was hard letting go of the space, but I think the trade offs are worth it for us.

That's awesome! It's such a great resort - I hope you enjoy it!

I prefer YC, so I think you made the good choice. I like the dining options at BW a bit more, but its all a short walk away

I was going to book YC for April with the 35% off promo. I have never stayed there and it looks nice and most importantly (IMO) has renovated rooms! We stayed at a BW villa in January (we are non DVC) and we were so disappointed in the room. I understand this may be because we were on the DVC side but the rooms need updated desperately! Dark, kind of musty, old carpet. Maybe I just caught a bad room on a bad day but for that much money :crazy2:

Have fun at YC! I really want to stay there too!
