Does anyone remember Wonderama?

I thought of it this morning as I was getting ready for work and found myself singing the "Exercise" song.

Remember that game where the kids got to take a lid off the can and if they got a bouquet, they won a bike? If they got a snake, they lost?

Or what about the bagels? The kids wore bagel necklaces with their names on them. I had never heard of bagels before Wonderama and had to ask my mom what they were.

I think it played on Sunday mornings and was like the only kid's show on. I think it was produced in NYC and distributed to the independent stations; you know, the 4th channel. (Not ABC, CBS, or NBC)

What a flashback.

I NEVER see this show mentioned!! LOL For years now I've wondered if I was the only person who remembered this show! I watched it every (what was it, Sunday morning????).

"Kids.......are people.....too....!" :rotfl:

I LOVED Wonderama! I too was thinking about it yesterday. Somebody on the cruise board had an aardvark as their towel animal and I got to thinking about the aardvark song.....

"Does anybody here have an aardvark? Does anybody here have an aardvark? Everyone here has a right and left ear, but does anybody here have an aardvark?"

I believe he would ask for some obscure object and the kid who had one won a bike or something equally amazing.

Okay, now a question for true NY'ers and die hard Wonderama fans....who was the host before Bob McAllister?

Linda

I remeber the show too well. I was actually on it one day. I am having senior moments since I don't remember how I got to be on - but I did - it was a long time ago. I remember there were a bunch of us blindfolded back stage and we came out to sample different foods and had to guess what it was - stupid me - I panicked - I knew exactly what I was tasting yet gave the wrong answers. Would love to see this show on again on one of the cable channels.

I'm really going to date myself. I used to watch Wonderama with Sonny Fox. Anyone else remember when he was on it?

I remember that show too! They had this game where all these toys were on a LONG table, and each kid came up and opened a can. If the can had snakes in it they lost, but if it had the flowers they won whatever was on the entire table! Man, I thought that would be heaven winning a whole table full of toys.

They probably couldn't do a show like that today because there were actually winners AND losers. Today, everybody has to win.

"Kids.......are people.....too....!" :rotfl:

Wacka...doo wacka...doo!

I used to watch every week. I actually went to see him when I was abot 6 or 7. It was with our girl scout troop. I can remember being really disappointed because he picked my friend to go up on stage with him. I was sitting right next to her. She came back with one of his famous cans of tootsie rolls. Boy were my eyes green that day. :rotfl2:

Kelley, you don't know how many times I start singing the excercise song. :lmao:

I used to love that show. I remember the girls in the cages while they danced and everyone had to freeze when the music stopped.

I remember the show....I used to watch it on WTTG Channel 5 (Washington DC).....I remember occasionally missing church to watch it.....loved the show however I was older when I watched probably around tween or early teenage years(during the 70s).

I moved to NYC in 1970 and was so jealous that my friend got to go on the show!

Oh I so wanted to be on that show. Really really wanted to. I wanted to play the game where you bounced the ball and had to grab toys. I would practice that at home and thought I would hit the motherload if I ever made it on.Wait was that Bozo? Or wonderama? I'll have to google. Now I'll have excercise excercise come on everybody do your excercise now freeze. Stuck in my head all day.

Ah Bob thanks for the memories and the fun on a Sunday morning.

I vaguely remember the show. Is that the show where they used to give away prizes like a Viewmaster and a Bozo the clown toothbrush?

Well, before Bob McAllister there was Sonny Fox. Before Sonny Fox, there was former Johnny Jellybean, later Bozo, Bill Brittain as Three Gun Willie the Kid. He had horns for guns, and had a female companion (who, to my child's mind, was totally hot) named Princess Ticklefeather.

I was part of the on-stage audience during Bill Brittain's last show, which may explain why my memory of Wonderama is so clear.

I loved the game where the kids had to eat a bunch of crackers and the first one to whistle won a prize! Cracked me up every time. (Yes, I was easily entertained as a child).

:thumbsup2

I too remember Wonderama with Sonny Fox when it was on Saturday & Sunday mornings

Remember The Gold & Silver teams.:wizard:

Remember the prizes were Schwinn Bikes & a years supply of KraAAAAAAAAUSS Hot Dogs!:lmao:

NOW does everybody remember the words to 'Kids are people too!"

I grew up on Long Island so watched this show as a kid religiously. loved the bagel necklaces and was jealous of a friend who went and was on the show. Was this also the show where they'd dance up on the big cubes, or was that another show?

I was a big fan of this show. I used to beg my dad to get tickets so I could go to the show. :rotfl2: He never did. :sad1: I remember when they had to grab balloons and sit on them and break them and win a prize. I don't remember the bagel necklaces though.
