I have thus far avoided the Wish (we are adult cruisers with 33 DCL cruises). We are going to take a 3-Night Wish after a 5-night Fantasy cruise in January. Our daughter is studying interior design in college, and we really want to check out the ship.

Help me manage my expectations. Our favorite ship is the Fantasy, and we love the adult spaces, adult dining and Satellite Falls. We do not love dinners that are a show. We love to go to the movie theater but rarely go to the main theater. Not sure if we will book concierge (we often do) since we have 2 other concierge DCL sailings in 2025.

Let's hear your thoughts/suggestions. Are we going to be unhappy?

It is hard to be unhappy on a Disney cruise but you will likely miss the other ships.

The bars are incredibly well themed on the Wish but because of them being spread out even the child free hours have children very close (Like needing to shoo them out of the balcony during Match Your Mate)

The adult pool is tiny but there are some loungers in the adult area that face the funnel vision if you like watching it. However you might want to book concierge for the added sundeck space.

The movie theaters on the Wish are uncomfortable IMO. I love the Buena Vista on the Fantasy. However the main Walt Disney theater is lovely. I would check out Seas the Adventure the first night. It is very short (35 mins) and very cute.

Two of your three meals will have shows. Not much to do about that. Maybe book both Palo (it is a steakhouse on the Wish) and Enchanté to help cut down on shows.

We are DCL Platinum with 19 cruises. We've sailed on the Wish twice, one of which was in concierge. We enjoy the ship very much and you will probably enjoy it too. We aren't fans of big shows in the MDR either so we sometimes pick those nights to go to Palo. In fact we usually do Palo on Pirate Night too.

But a word about Palo on the Wish. It's a good restaurant but it is different than Palo on the other ships. It has less of an Italian influence on the Wish than the others. It is still a good steak house (and other things) and service is excellent.

I would recommend to book the Concierge, as it is a bit different experience from the other ships. The lounge is huge! With more hosts and dining staff so you won’t interact with all of them in the same degree as in the other ships. Two levels, nice sun deck, and lots of seating on each level.

Try not to compare to the other ships, as it does intentionally have a different atmosphere and design. It is beautiful in its own way. Take one of the ship tours early on your trip, to learn many of the hidden and design things which make it special and different. Then you can find others as you wander around later. Even if you won’t do laundry, be sure to check out the laundry room.

Don’t skip 1923, so much wonderful Disney animation history there. Their pirate deck show is also different, with a live band which makes it more fun in my opinion.

The movie theatres are a lot smaller, only 60-75 seats each, so you may have to get seating earlier than you would on the other ships.

You sound a lot like us, adults with 29 Disney cruises under our belt. I went on to the Wish knowing what to expect and my experience was pretty much all I had seen. The adult pool/bar area was severely lacking, dinner shows annoying (Arandelle we were along the wall sort of away from the action which helped), no self serve buffet, etc...

With that said, was it a horrible cruise? No! We managed to enjoy it and find some good. Although the adult sun deck was not enjoyable at all, I found a nice area to relax, even though it was all ages. The ship itself is beautiful, the food was great (loved the BBQ), and the crew was amazing as always. Would I run out and book the Wish again (or the Treasure or Destiny), no. However if I had a reason to sail on one of those ships, such as if my extended family were going on one, I would likely suck it up and go.

I hope you too are able to find some good. :)

Palo brunch is exactly like the other ships. Only dinner is different and the over all decor of course.

I love the pirate show on the ship. They play older music that I know…lol I think I embarrassed my daughter because I danced and sang along for a change…lol

For us (also Pearl), Wish's difference were 'noisy' and threatened to blot out the experience. The dinner shows are a big turn off for us, but I always end up giving Spider-Man a fist bump. We avoid them by doing Palo & Enchante arranging for Arendelle on one of those nights. The adult pool is..ok? We really like Satellite Falls and they've got this 2 part setup which emulates the sit down part. The last time on Wish, we headed up to Chip n Dale's pool and the area was stunningly empty. Currents is right there too. Shared the pool with one kid who was very well behaved.

The food is really good. Pool food is the best in the Fleet.

The Rooms are startlingly similar to the rest of the Fleet

The Little Mermaid show stinks. Aladdin is fine. The Goofy show makes me want to hurl. We avoid the first and last ones.

The bars are pretty nice. We even like the 'mini' bars (Enchanted Sword and Wishing Star). The Bayou, Nightingales, and the Rose are big hits.

We work around the parts we don't like. We don't cruise DCL instead of other lines for the dinner shows and adult areas and whatnot. We cruise DCL for the atmosphere, the impeccably clean ships, the fastidious crew.

Why do you/y'all cruise DCL?

That's exactly where we went, up by the Chip and Dale pool. The side decks were comparable to where I spend most days on the Dream and Fantasy, only they were all ages. Currents Bar took the place of the Cove Bar (on the other ships) for us as there is no place to sit up at the Cove Bar on the Wish. Again, that's not adults only but we didn't see many kids. If they would make that area adults only, the same as it is on the Dream and Fantasy, that would change my opinion on the ship quite a bit.

Going on the Wish in 3 weeks. I have only been on the Fantasy. Where is this Chip and Dale pool located? I have read the adult only section is in the aft compared to forwards on Fantasy.

I believe it is deck 14 . We found it when exploring. There are a lot of smaller pools on this ship.

Just wanted to mention one thing that really struck me about the shops on the Wish. When you first board you are on deck 3 and there are a bunch of shops there most of them interconnected. You won't find much Disney merchandise in these shops though. Instead these are run by 3rd parties and sell mostly up-scale merchandise/jewelry. One shop also has "gently used" luxury goods. If you are looking for Disney merchandise you'll find it in a shop on deck 5.

Have sailed 48 times on DCL, all 5 ships. We just sailed recently on the Wish (4day) for the second time. We did not love it the first time we sailed so we thought we would try it again. We thought maybe the first time we were just so shocked at how different the ship was from others in the fleet. So, this time determined to give it a fair try knowing our expectations. Well …. We did not change our mind. It is for sure my least favorite ship.

Even though it’s roughly the same passenger count as the Fantasy, it seemed so much more crowded. The venues were always overflowing. The noise level was much louder everywhere. We did not like the dinner “shows”. They were too loud and too long. We felt bad for our servers who had to work around the show and had to shout for you to hear them. The Marvel show was the worst. Our poor servers were trying to sing happy birthday to people in the dining room and had to compete with Spider-Man and the very very loud music. Our head server told us that it is a nightmare for their servers to try and do their job during these shows. our favorite dining room was 1923 and thank goodness we were in there twice during this sailing.

We did not like the adult area at all. It small, sunny during the day, and not much seating. Two evenings we were kicked out, once for the fireworks and once because they were cleaning that side of the ship and there is only one way in or out.

In talking with other passengers, we discovered that most people who loved the ship, it usually was their first sailing with DCL. Others who have sailed many times on other DCL ships, the Wish is not their favorite. I know this may not be true for everyone, but that is just our experience in chatting with others.

Our biggest thing we missed is the walking track found on the other ships. We love deck 4 on the others and really missed it on this ship. It is almost like they designed this ship to keep you inside as much as possible. Oh, and the shopping - those high end stores were always empty and the Disney merchandise store on deck 5 was so small comparatively and usually crowded.

The ship itself is beautiful, the prettiest in the fleet, but we dislike the function. At least for the things we enjoy doing onboard. Others may love it. One of the other things that surprised us was that the crew on this ship were not all that friendly. We are so used to everyone speaking to you as they pass you in the hall or around the ship. Of course, not everyone is unfriendly, but compared to our experience so other ships this was the least friendly. The crew refer to this ship as “the maze”. Lots of small, out of the way, harder to find spaces. But the crew love their cabins on this ship the best! They said they are an improvement from the other cabins on Disney’s other ships.

I will say no DCL cruise is a bad one, we just like some more than others. I won’t say that we will never sail on the Wish again, but it certainly would not be my first, second third or fourth choice. We are sailing on the Treasure next Spring and I already am a bit worried that we won’t love it. I’m hoping that a 7 day will not feel as crowded as a four day. We will try and skip Marvel for sure on that rotation. And who knows, maybe they tweaked some things, although I am aware the layout will be similar.

We are back on the Fantasy very soon and can’t wait. It’s our favorite!

That was our experience as well. They got some attention in the first day or two of the cruise but after that those high end shops were nearly empty. The actual Disney store was always busy. Maybe they will learn a lesson from this and do something different on the Treasure.

I had no idea about the gently used luxury goods. Interesting!

Hi Katie, It's the shop with the high end bags (LV, etc) and watches. They look good but be aware they are not new.

Why do you/y'all cruise DCL?
Well when our daughter was young and my mom was living, it was a wonderful family vacation. We are big Disney fans, so it was an easy choice for a multi-generational trip. Now that our daughter is in college and my mom is gone, we enjoy the Disney nostalgia, the service, the fun things to do. We love Remy and that DCL has high end wine and champagne. Palo is ok - but we miss the old brunch. Two of us are vegetarians and the buffet brunch was much better for us. We like that the adult areas are large and kid-free. That is really my biggest concern with the Triton class ships. Our daughter is studying interior design, and we would really like to see the interiors on the Wish, but everything else doesn't sound very appealing. (Even down to the TV in the stateroom not being on a swivel arm. The lack of a running track is awful). We tried Celebrity on their newest ship in their version of concierge. IT WAS AMAZING - but we were totally bored. The on-board activities did not appeal to us, there is no decent wine to be found by the glass and forget about champagne.

We liked the Wish. I have a 'noise' issue with the family pool areas on the other ships but the Wish - somehow - doesn't see as noisy. So far the Wish is the only time I've enjoyed Funnel Vision and the QS areas. I'd say the food overall is better on the Wish. If you don't like dinner shows you'll enjoy 1928 (?) and maybe the Marvel dinner. The other dinner is a full out dinner show. The movie theaters are tiny but the seats are very comfortable. We sat in the back because I have a habit of falling asleep in movies. I think the only level you can walk completely around the ship without going up and down stairs in 11 - or maybe 12. LOL

Thanks! To be honest, I don't even go in those shops and buy very little, if any merchandise at all, I just find it strange DCL would have these high end shops on board, just to sell used stuff. Seems so odd to me, but there must be a reason (market for it?). :confused3
