Will twin sheets fill XL dorm bed?

I thought maybe since college mattresses are so thin that they might fit? Anyone try?

Regular twin mattresses are 75" long and ex-long is 80" long. In my experience - it would be a long shot, maybe if your existing twin sheets are the deep pocket kind. But I think they would keep popping off.

They will have "horns" at each corner b/c they're not big enough to go all the way on. It can be done, though -- I did it for two years.

I think you want to buy what they call "Jersey Sheets" Go to Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Target, BB & B have a lot of XL sheets this time of year. I would just get the correct size and not make taking care of their new space that much harder.

When I was in college, they told us we needed extra long sheets. I bought a set of them, and they were way too big for the bed (kept coming off). So I used an older set of regular twin sheets I had, and they were just fine. I would suggest maybe trying regular ones first, and if they don't work, getting the extra long (or buying them, but keeping them in the package until you try the regular ones).

They have XL beds at the school where my husband works and regular twin sheets definitely do not fit.

Walmart has a XLtwin sheets right now too, jersey and micro fiber.

I guess it can vary. My DD's school says to buy XL sheets, but they were kind of big, and the regular twin fits. You can find the XL sheets fairly reasonable, so I would buy at least one set to see, and then you could always buy more.

I would get XL sheets if they are XL beds. Then I would make sure to get a feather bed, egg crate, foam topper - something - to help with the horribly uncomfortable beds they have at schools! They're not too bad for a few nights, but to sleep on them all the time, you really need something on top if you don't like to sleep on a rock. And then the twin sheets really wouldn't fit!

I had jersey knit sheets in college, and they were for twin beds, but they have so much stretch and give, they worked out wonderfully. I would do it again in a heart beat.

With my second DS ready to go off to college (the same one as DS 21!), I bought XL twin sheets, an "egg crate" topper and an extra thick mattress pad.

Knowing boys, they do not change their sheets regularly (ewww!) so I make sure they have pillow covers and extra pillowcases. As everyone mentioned, all of the stores have them for college bound students. Try to get an XL comforter too.

A regular twin sheet may fit, but not well.

Kohls on line has some nice sets for $12 For that price it isn't worth messing around and trying to get the others to fit. Also remember that when they do wash them if they do wash them they will probably be drying them bone dry on hot!!! adding to the problem with reg twin fitting.

I've had luck getting a double jersey set to fit on a queen. They usually have a lot more give than regular cotton sets.

If you have to buy new sheets, and want to use them afterwards, just buy those sheet clips that help hold the sheets onto the bed. That'll help make up for the extra slack at each end of the bed. It's one more marketing ploy to get you to spend money.

If the Twin XL sheets are slipping off a Twin XL bed (jersey knit will do that because the material that's used is like a well broken in t-shirt), there are a number of different fasteners and suspenders made for sheets that will hold them on.

I would second this. There is no way I would have survived in college without my egg crate on the bed. My bed was one of the softer ones, and it still bothered me. By October of my first year, I bought the egg crate. I can still remember my roommate always complaining how I got the better bed and then got an egg crate for it. She eventually bit the bullet and bought one too.:rotfl: I think my twin sheets may have fit since the mattress was so thin, but honestly, I had the XL sheets, so I used those. I did know some people who had regular twin mattresses in their rooms, and thought the XL sheets were just too big for those.
